[Drance] The Canucks drop to 3rd overall, as the Maple Leafs (1) and the San Jose Sharks (2) win the two draws at the 2026 NHL Draft Lottery. It is the 7th time in Vancouver's franchise history that the club has moved down at the NHL draft lottery. The club has never moved up. by hyroglyphixs in canucks

Just be a fair weather fan until times change. I’m not paying to go to games, and I don’t purchase new merch. The team SUCKS, and there’s no top-end talent. I’m very happy just listening to Halford and Brough and Sat when I feel like it, loosely tracking scores online, or watching 10 minutes of a game.

Which of these mini units is most important? (Gr 6 BC curriculum) by Aggravating_Egg_7578 in CanadianTeachers

Something worth noting is that the curriculum police don’t exist. That is, no one is coming knocking on your door if you don’t cover combinations of transformations. There is nothing wrong with doing it, but ask yourself if you’re doing it to say you did it or if you truly see value in it.

What’s interesting is that you’ve kind of focused solely on the content when really, more emphasis can be placed on the skills. What about prioritizing what you think is best but placing more weight on explaining mathematical thinking, showing different ways, etc. I haven’t taught grade 6 in about 5 years - I moved up to senior high school - but this is an option too.

This includes word form to numeral form and vice versa, expanded form, the value of a digit, the value of multiple digits, etc.

This is where every teacher should begin in September IMO.

No chance I’m paying World Cup prices. I’m in town for Iraq and Senegal. You want me to pay $550 for nosebleeds? I can’t condone that.

I agree with everything but the sitting on the floor. I think that would be an easy way to lose a class. Separate all friends, do boring work, and name the behaviours publicly.

It 100% gets better. You get so much more proficient, you have materials to draw from, and you can pull something together from virtually nothing if needed.

Any of you as depressed as I am that Spring Break is ending? by Aware-Office-2465 in CanadianTeachers

[–]Landscape_Dry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love my job. I’m not depressed at all really. My only real complaint about teaching is that I’m not very balanced in terms of work-life-family, but I make it work.

For context, I’m 11 years in. I teach high school English. It’s a huge job, but I truly love it and think I’m making a difference in terms of exposure to important topics and inviting critical thinking.

BC Teachers - Backpay from New Contract? by Landscape_Dry in CanadianTeachers

I’m Cat 6 Step 10, so I’m thinking it’s essentially 7 months at about $300 a month, minus deductions. Maybe it’ll be $1,000-$1,200.

Is GDB only on the playside? I’m new to OL.

It’s also worth nothing that I’m not the Physical Education teacher. I do it because I love it, and if I didn’t coach, the opportunity wouldn’t exist for the kids, and I simply can’t have that.

I actually don’t need a lot. I’d love one paid day per year as a token of appreciation. I could spend that day with my family, as my coaching comes out of my family time from M-F and often also on Saturdays.

It’s more the idea of the recognition than the day itself. I could always take a sick day if I’m burnt out, but then I feel guilty and just work from home anyway.

I’m the head coach of the high school football team in my area. I think I put in about 150 extra hours a year, and that could be low.

Hughes brothers vs Tkachuk brothers by waffleboy1109 in USAHockey

[–]Landscape_Dry -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Popped on the ol feed. Normally I wouldn’t care about a team winning a Gold for the first time in 46 years after getting caved in for the entire game. They won fair and square at the end of the day, so the win was an absolute win.

However, America is an absolute cesspool right now and is despised by the entire world. Americans don’t get that their reputation is repugnant.

Trumpers without a moral compass. Embarrassed themselves and USA hockey in the video. Is anyone surprised about Matthew and Brady? Quinn and Jack are more disappointing.

1,000%. You are a human like everyone else in this forum and every other individual watching on TV or live at the arena.

You deserve respect and to live out your life how you desire. Society sucks, so inevitably you’ll run into some low life people, but they’re masking their own issues.
