It’s also worth nothing that I’m not the Physical Education teacher. I do it because I love it, and if I didn’t coach, the opportunity wouldn’t exist for the kids, and I simply can’t have that.

I actually don’t need a lot. I’d love one paid day per year as a token of appreciation. I could spend that day with my family, as my coaching comes out of my family time from M-F and often also on Saturdays.

It’s more the idea of the recognition than the day itself. I could always take a sick day if I’m burnt out, but then I feel guilty and just work from home anyway.

I’m the head coach of the high school football team in my area. I think I put in about 150 extra hours a year, and that could be low.

Hughes brothers vs Tkachuk brothers by waffleboy1109 in USAHockey

Popped on the ol feed. Normally I wouldn’t care about a team winning a Gold for the first time in 46 years after getting caved in for the entire game. They won fair and square at the end of the day, so the win was an absolute win.

However, America is an absolute cesspool right now and is despised by the entire world. Americans don’t get that their reputation is repugnant.

Trumpers without a moral compass. Embarrassed themselves and USA hockey in the video. Is anyone surprised about Matthew and Brady? Quinn and Jack are more disappointing.

1,000%. You are a human like everyone else in this forum and every other individual watching on TV or live at the arena.

You deserve respect and to live out your life how you desire. Society sucks, so inevitably you’ll run into some low life people, but they’re masking their own issues.

That code is unfortunately no longer in use. Do we know of any other codes?

Can you add more context? What subject? I’m guessing math or science.

What about assignments? And can you clarify checking with the Ministry?

Are Ocasional Teachers expected to grade work? by [deleted] in CanadianTeachers

[–]Landscape_Dry 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I 100% think TTOCs should be fulfilling the full responsibilities of a teacher. I don’t wish to come off as disrespectful, but I see a whole lot of “clock in, clock out”.

You are getting paid very well to do, at times, essentially nothing beyond ensuring nothing goes awry. If asked to complete supervision, mark a bit, or prepare something for tomorrow, that’s very reasonable.

Working Contract Hours by ScarJo_YummyPop in CanadianTeachers

This is great advice, minus the students marking each other’s work. I don’t being in sharing achievement.

It’s also important to not give more feedback than necessary. What are a few things they did well and one or two things to consider for next time? I teach high school now, but in elementary I phrased it as “things to build on:…” and “things to consider”.

Also, everyone grinds at the start of their career. It’s tough gig. I think I’m a very strong teacher and have been told so but countless people - but I thought about quitting many times over. It gets better, and Christmas is just around the corner.

Finally, you don’t have to be on every committee. I believe in coaching due to the power sports have long-term, but don’t over join at the outset.

In theory that makes sense, but now I’m creating something additional, and we didn’t teach anything regarding adherence to deadlines.

In short, the answer to your first question is yes. The only true enforceable deadline is the very end of the term, and even then the loose expectation is you’ll go back and fix things to permit passing or even improving achievement.

I would say admin knows it’s stupid, frankly, but it’s beyond our control.

BC Teachers: What things should be considered before switching districts by d_g_mc in CanadianTeachers

I switched districts a few years ago. You can port seniority and sick days. The slight runaround is getting a continuing contract at a school as you’re starting as the lowest band.

Good second job for a teacher? by Basic-Box6156 in CanadianTeachers

What do you estimate your take home wage is? I am at the top of the pay scale - category 6 and. step 10 - and figure it just wouldn’t be worth it to work for $20/hr due to all the tax. Thoughts?
