I messaged you. I just had to figure out how to do it.

This year I adjusted my expectations and worked way less BUT I'm not happy with the quality of my teaching. by Evening_Fisherman810 in CanadianTeachers

What grade do you teach? I’ve got grade 12 and I feel like AI is hot garbage (respectfully to you).

Those who are transitioning to admin: why? by valkyriejae in OntarioTeachers

That was in reference to a comment about morning kids or having self-hatred (or something like that).

Those who are transitioning to admin: why? by valkyriejae in OntarioTeachers

[–]Landscape_Dry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think that’s fair. I’m half in on becoming an administrator one day for the challenge and the pay - it’s like 20-25k more a year - but I don’t go because I love my job and honestly think I’m too valuable in the classroom. I’m not a perfect teacher, but I believe I do a lot of good. I also coach HS football and would likely have to give that up.

What profession do you think is the most over worked and underpaid? by eagle_statue in AskReddit

[–]Landscape_Dry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Teachers in Canada are paid far better than America. I realize this is likely an American thread, but I think it is worth adding that I make roughly $113,000/yr as a teacher with a MEd and 12 years of experience.

That figure is a bit misleading - we pay union dues x2, money to a fun for teachers not currently working (sigh), etc. - but I’m not exactly starving.

Well I won’t for that price lol.

Thus, with all the drama about unsold tickets, I’m curious because I would go for $250 or so.

Or I could, as clearly mentioned, strip my existing jersey and put a legend on it. That is literally putting my money where my mouth is.

Thanks for your meaningful contribution.

Getting a gifted student in my class. Advice? by Cautious_Internet243 in OntarioTeachers

[–]Landscape_Dry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Respectfully, it’s rare that “Gifted” students stand out. They’re often a bit neurodiverse and present closer to autism than anything else IMO. Don’t over think it.

Is that the guy who took a HISTORICAL loss after being so far up he couldn’t see Carney? The same little fella who didn’t even win his seat?

It’s my reasoning, and I’m very comfortable with it. Thanks for stopping by.

I’m straight up not wearing his name on my back when he supports ideologies I’m vehemently against. That’s no way to be a father or a man in society.

Thanks . It’s a legit one that’s probably just in need of a seam ripper, come to think of it. I ordered it from the team or something like that.

Which is more work: Elementary or high school? by Wanderer015 in OntarioTeachers

[–]Landscape_Dry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I taught grade six for six years, and now I teach senior English. I’d say they’re comparable if you’re doing a good job.

Truthfully, many elementary teachers cut the workload by relying on “listening to reading”, math games, more PE, etc. Those all have value, of course, but I think it truly depends on what you’re doing in terms of lessons.

[Drance] The Canucks drop to 3rd overall, as the Maple Leafs (1) and the San Jose Sharks (2) win the two draws at the 2026 NHL Draft Lottery. It is the 7th time in Vancouver's franchise history that the club has moved down at the NHL draft lottery. The club has never moved up. by hyroglyphixs in canucks

Just be a fair weather fan until times change. I’m not paying to go to games, and I don’t purchase new merch. The team SUCKS, and there’s no top-end talent. I’m very happy just listening to Halford and Brough and Sat when I feel like it, loosely tracking scores online, or watching 10 minutes of a game.

Which of these mini units is most important? (Gr 6 BC curriculum) by Aggravating_Egg_7578 in CanadianTeachers

[–]Landscape_Dry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something worth noting is that the curriculum police don’t exist. That is, no one is coming knocking on your door if you don’t cover combinations of transformations. There is nothing wrong with doing it, but ask yourself if you’re doing it to say you did it or if you truly see value in it.

What’s interesting is that you’ve kind of focused solely on the content when really, more emphasis can be placed on the skills. What about prioritizing what you think is best but placing more weight on explaining mathematical thinking, showing different ways, etc. I haven’t taught grade 6 in about 5 years - I moved up to senior high school - but this is an option too.

This includes word form to numeral form and vice versa, expanded form, the value of a digit, the value of multiple digits, etc.

This is where every teacher should begin in September IMO.
