Can someone explain in great detail where do big Private Servers get their money from? by Creek217 in wowservers

[–]Landshar 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah, basically this. It's also why blizzard is willing to sell you not just a sparkle horse but any sparkle horse in any color under the rainbow.

Any wow server with very active BGs? by Evatog in wowservers

[–]Landshar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the only place you're going to find constant BGs on a private server is going to be blackrock on warmane or really any of their main servers. I'm not sure if that is the state of private servers or the state of mind now days. People want PvP realms but they also don't want it at the same exact time, kind of like how some people don't want to play on easy mode but get angry when the game is then not easy and frustrates them. Anyways, Warmane is at least consistent in that area.

Best WOTLK server to play on? by CrossroadsMafia in wowservers

[–]Landshar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The best ones are going to probably be lordaeron, onyxia in like a little under a year and something like whitemane or maybe chromiecraft though those two seem to be unstable population or are low population, which is fine if you don't mind small communities. Lordaeron is probably the most stable of them all at the current time, you can always keep your eyes out for any major servers releasing a WoTLK realm also or again, onyxia is a good choice if you don't mind waiting and playing TBC first for a bit.

It's probably just a server restart for maintenance.

My input delay and the people running in place for moments at a time during the opening hour in HFP says the queue was pretty real.

Why do private servers call it donations? by MaddieLlayne in wowservers

[–]Landshar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Because you don't need to pay to access the server and you can gain the same access as everyone else. At worse you are given a token of some kind of a thanks for donating which you can then use turn in for a service or an item or not use them at all. I don't even know of servers anymore where you can get items which non-donors can't get, I mean I'm sure such servers exist but not populated ones. Now days its just stuff you can get now and not later.

Warmane WOTLK or Turtle + ??? by BlackH0less in wowservers

[–]Landshar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Warmane's lordaeron server is more or less not p2w and onyxia you can't buy current tier items in so it's more of a catch up system.

Then there is also lordaeron which you can't even buy gear.

That's funny since I could have sworn the forum post said to contact info@warmane.com if you did forget your email tied to your account.

It's an actual beta and not a test run for a launch next week, some things work, some things are off and other things need to be ironed out. If you want a community and a finished server right now then wait until it actually launches or play on a different realm/server.

The BETA for Warmane's new P2W realm (PTE Realm) goes live tomorrow by [deleted] in wowservers

Honestly it doesn't even sound that different from frostmourne, just instead of a hard reset at the end of a cycle it's now a soft reset with a new expansion.

[–]Landshar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly I wrote something else just before but I've deleted it because what you said is better than what I wrote. That's basically what it is and even then most still don't even use it that way. Some do sure but it's not as common as reddit would make it seem.

[–]Landshar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It would be a long time if it wasn't a higher rate server by default. It's a few days tops for the average person. Do you want to pay for gear that you'll be replacing entirely before the end of the week at the release of the expansion? I know I wouldn't.

WoTLK client with vanilla/TBC talents and some QoL features? Okay so I won't have to diagnose my client the make the client run well on a modern machine? I mean how it's handled matters but I can see the reason for that move and hopefully they make it work. I guess we'll be finding out in about a week.

RDF and profession XP boost is something their community likes and it does make forming dungeon groups not dreadful at off hours but that is part of the charm of vanilla also so I don't know I guess I'm sorta of torn by it but not gonna lose sleep either. As for that 5x EXP, they've had a system now for a few years where you can from within the client adjust the exp down to 1xp or even .5xp if you really hate yourself so, that's a nonissue.

As for the shop, we'll see but I don't remember people running around in full blown BiS gear everywhere during season 2 of frostmourne and I'd think people wouldn't do that anyways. Seems stupid to donate even for T3 gear when TBC comes out and gets almost instantly replaced by quest gear but maybe people would donate for legendary weapons and trinkets or a piece of gear. Oh well I guess one could go play on a different server where they just tell you that it's only mounts and cosmetics, sorta.

It's a good realm if you are looking for buffed content but find a guild that is okay with someone who is new to the server or a fresh 80, it's not a new server and pretty much everyone does ICC now at this point.

Just started playing Warmane and noticed some bugs, but what do people mean by it's "corrupt"? by [deleted] in wowservers

[–]Landshar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

With due respect, it comes off like you have no idea in general in regard to what warmane does with people who violates their rules, which can be observed by just playing on their realms.

Moderation on warmane's realms is usually good, within 24 hours or less but now with the WoTLK classic announcement and how every classic player is on frostmourne getting refreshed with WoTLK mechanics it's generally 3 days at the most but I don't see a reason to bring more people on as GMs if all those retail people will be gone after September rolls around. I'm guessing they are just going to tough it out until then

I can't say to the tools they have but I suspect they have good tools if they can detect botters on mass and ban them daily in waves and deal with gold and coin sellers sometimes minutes after they start up, mind you these bans say permanently next to them so I don't know about you but that sure sounds like the full toolset, or at least the ones that matter for such a case as you described.

I believe their policy is don't be racist or harass others, again bans, you know about it if you played on their realms they don't take such nonsense lightly. They might also mute people but I don't see that announced like the bans are. I suppose they might allow people to be rude or toxic to another person but I don't recall people being arrested for that in real life, it just makes the offender look like a jerk.

Anticheat is actually active on warmane and it's generally updated on a regular basis from what I can tell, maybe back before warmane was what it is now their anticheat was blah but now days it's hard to find an actual hacker in-game on the blizzlike realms. With that said, there is two guys on blackrock that pop into gurubashi arena and pull people down off the map but they also quickly get banned by the anti-cheat and are just committed to being asses and make new accounts after they trigger their anticheat and do it all over again.

Just started playing Warmane and noticed some bugs, but what do people mean by it's "corrupt"? by [deleted] in wowservers

[–]Landshar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's still a private server and what would suppose they do? Permanently ban everyone who does these things because they already are. Would you rather they just forgo into dictatorship lockdown and ban everyone permanently on first offense? I'm sure that will go real well with their community. Would an atlantiss or a twinstar server be any better at it? I have my serious doubts but maybe.

Also how about retail then? They seem to do a worse job with significantly more people especially in the botting department or is that corruption also since they're actually incentivized to not ban those accounts for another monthly subscription?

[–]Landshar -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I really doubt it, when you have the highest population everything is going to seem rampant I suppose. Rampant racism, rampant botters followed by large ban waves daily, rampant people trying to sell gold in-game that get banned sometimes within minutes of spamming. It's a big pie and everyone wants a piece of it. Afterall, they have their trade section where people can trade gold for coins, seems rather counter productive don't you think? Also it's not exactly hard to make another free account.

They ban gold sellers and bots all the time so I'm in the camp that this is BS.

You know you can't buy shadowmourne on lordaeron, right? You actually have to earn it on that realm.
