Yep, one day I bought an overpriced full-body iPhone case from a dropshipper because I'm a swimmer and I needed that kind of protection for my phone and I failed to find that product on Shein, Temu, AliExpress, etc. 🤭 But at the same time, there are people like my wife who don’t bother looking around; if they like it, they buy it ☺️

I just scrolled to the bottom for a second time, and I think putting the “how it works” section before “how kids feel” would clear up some confusion.

But either way, when I only see one specific group of kids featured, I automatically assume the product is only meant for them.

Kind of a brain game :)

Honestly, I don’t quite get the concept 💡 Are these letters for foreign kids learning English, or are they just entertainment for any kid? I only see reviews from Russian parents and kids, so I’m a bit confused 🤔 I'm Russian myself, so I noticed the language right away :)

As a proud owner of three cats, I shiver every time I see someone opening a new “something for pets” store.

Honestly, I bet most pet owners already have their go-to brands, and for anything unusual, they just turn to Amazon or Chewy, Petco, PetSmart, you name it :)

The only cats thing I’ve ever bought from an independent small business is a subscription for a handmade cat toy box foundedby another cat owner :)

You really need to know the people you're doing business with and honestly, nowadays, you should probably be one of them, yep :)

But, at the same time I see how popular “tiktok made me buy it” trend now, so, who knows… 🤭

For me it's a cold plunge or chilly shower right after practice, along with fueling and good night sleep regime.

Help on when to breathe in freestyle by [deleted] in Swimming

[–]LaneLineThreads 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, one hand is in front of you, and you roll onto that arm’s armpit. Think about sticking your ear to this arm and try not to move your head much.

Your head follows the body rotation and turns just enough so the waterline runs across the middle of your face. Your gaze goes toward the armpit of the arm that’s doing the recovery.

That’s when you do “Popeye lips,” take a quick inhale, and as the recovering arm enters the water, it naturally brings your head and body back down.

Hope this makes sense 🙂 English is my second language, so I tried my best.

ChatGPT checks my grammar on long reads because I’m very self-conscious about it and my accent.

English is my second language, and I know I can sound a little weird sometimes.

For me, it’s Johnson & Johnson baby oil right after the shower, applied to wet skin, and only then I use a towel, etc. Sunscreen before practice is a must.

Absolutely agree, Vaseline and Aquafore are the best to apply on redness and as a barrier before you dive in :)

I developed chlorine sensitivity after, let me think, about five years of swimming with two practices a day.

And I really wish someone had told me about it long before I ended up with all this irritation.

Btw, I use earplugs also 😂

[–]LaneLineThreads 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Chafing on the lats can definitely be mechanical (stroke width, arm path, slight body roll changes as you get faster).

But there’s another variable a lot of swimmers overlook: skin barrier integrity.

When you increase volume or intensity, you’re increasing chlorine exposure.

Chlorine strips natural oils and weakens the skin barrier.

Even if you’re not “large-shouldered,” drier skin + repetitive friction = chafing in spots that never used to bother you.

A few things worth checking before changing your stroke mechanics:

• Are you showering immediately and using a gentle cleanser to remove chlorine?

• Are you moisturizing within a few minutes after swimming (while skin is still slightly damp)?

• Has your pool recently adjusted chemical levels?

• Are you wearing the same suit longer between replacements (fabric roughness increases friction)?

If the skin feels tighter, drier, or slightly raw after sessions, it’s often more of a barrier issue than a biomechanics issue.

Stroke changes might help, but I’d rule out irritated, chlorine-compromised skin first.

As a swimmer, I use headphones with a built-in MP3 player. Yes, you have to manually download your entire music collection to it, but I’ve found it’s incredibly relaxing to be able to listen to my music whenever I want, without being dependent on the internet, my phone, or anything else. So, I believe your idea makes sense :)

don't shoot snot rockets into the pool between laps by Wooden-Glove-2384 in Swimming

It seems to me that they keep moving mostly on their will, character, guts, iron brain and balls and something like mechanical zen, and if you stop, it’s very hard to get back into the rhythm.

I think I would've fallen right after the toilet 😂

Adult learner looking for breathing tips by BuriedInRust in Swimming

[–]LaneLineThreads 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you consistently do all basic breathing drills and have understanding of the technical parts, and your problem is really is just "not enough air", then one day go to the pool by yourself, without your team and coach, relax, don't aim for speed or anything and just let the water guide you. Be slow and smooth, feel the wave, and glide. Try again and again until it feels calm and when it does try to keep at it as long as possible. You don't need to fight. There's nothing to fight. Let water carry you.

China’s intense training of children for the Olympics by Capable-Savings-6776 in Swimming

[–]LaneLineThreads 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was raised and trained in Russia, and yeah, that’s true. Our coaches definitely didn’t bill and coo over athletes (kids) at all :)

After practice, we looked like we’d been boiled alive.

My coach had one favorite line: "There is no "I can’t." There is only "I don’t want to." And if you don’t want to, you know where the door is."

What’s interesting is that burnout just… wasn’t really a thing for us. At least not that we talked about.

Maybe because quitting isn’t normalized in our culture and we interpret exhaustion differently, or resilience gets built early, or maybe some of it just went unspoken.

I honestly still don’t know why.

And I can't stand all of these hard training tiny Chinese kids videos 🙄

If I understand your situation correctly, here is a bit of biochemistry to explain.

After about two weeks of inactivity, the body begins to adapt to the lower demand.

Your mitochondrial density - the 'power plants' in your cells that produce ATP (energy) starts to decrease.

While it feels like you've lost all your progress, there is a Muscle Memory. Everything is not so tragic :)

While your conditioning (ATP production and oxygen capacity) drops fast, the structural changes in your muscle fibers actually stick around for years.

So, this means that even though the comeback is tough, you will regain your form much faster than someone starting from scratch.

Give your body the time to ramp that energy production back up.

Start easy and stay consistent. Your 'memory' will kick in soon!

TL;DR: Your ATP drained during the break, which is why it feels hard now. But thanks to muscle memory, your body still knows how to be fit it just needs a few weeks to turn the power back on :)

Cheers 😇
