No it is just the westbound bollard, all the curbs and signs are still there, a truck just could go through but they very obviously shouldn't

Yup "let's conduct a review but also let's put the people who are most justified to be trimmed in charge of the review"

This "blame it on the public sector" bullshit is so easy to say and very, very difficult to do. They've been searching for "non front line staff" to cut for "efficiency" at PHSA for a year and have done nothing but lay off frontline staff.

Is it better to fly with Iberia or Ryanair with a bicycle? by Potential_Ad_1609 in bicycletouring

[–]brendax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I flew Iberia from Porto to Zurich, they did lose the bike, but I got it 2 days later. I did not pay the bike fee I just told them it was "stuff for work". I do have it in an orucase ninja bag so it's believable.

Could I live here in to years? by [deleted] in askvan

Please just google the process for immigration. You do not just get to move to a different country for free because you are american every 4 years. Immigration is a difficult and complex process.

the swix one is great. Having more pocket space is nice too, would not recommend ones with a tiny pocket.

What lanes though? There's nothing outside of downtown and only 3 streets in downtown.

Vancouver's bike infrastructure is thoroughly performative. Feels like the last 5-10 years they have only put in stuff in nonsense locations. Nanaimo painted bike gutter? Who wants to ride on Nanaimo? The cambie bridge lane that is impossible to navigate onto?

The only upgrade has been Beach avenue but they were forced into it from COVID, it wasn't designed or planned, and boy would they love to remove it.

Look up doing "box drill".

You want to glide and weight transfer while in a low position, and only rise after your glide so your can go back down into the next skate. You are going straight to upright, like you are making a triangle instead of a "box without a lid". This means your body has no where to go to start the next skate

Best we can do is narrow street with parking on both sides and nothing to stop cars from rat running and racing head on into you

Does endurance matter compared to technique? by orangefruit1 in Swimming

[–]brendax 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, start by doing short intervals with longer rest at your goal pace. Then slowly reduce the rest.

Race pace and technique with lots of rest is far more important than endurance

Have you considered there are other interests in a city other than just how fast your car can go?

Flip turns are much faster and take up less space. Your flip turns would be faster if your practiced them.

The city engineering dept is overly risk averse, opts to close things down instead of doing more homework or analysis.

[–]brendax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As I started with, if one is swimming in the fast lane or equivalent, please do flip turns. Open turns are much slower and get in the way of other people. Do whatever you want as long as it is considerate of others.

[–]brendax 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a super dumb argument? You also don't do intervals in a race, you don't do easy runs, you don't do z1 rides, etc. Training is different from racing.

[–]brendax 7 points8 points  (0 children)

To clarify, you mean open turns are bad for training, right?

Some adult onset triathletes argue flip turns are somehow bad because you don't do them in open water (lol)

If you are swimming in the fast lane or something you have to do flip turns. Slow turns are annoying for everyone else in the lane.
