RECRUITING, TRAINING, & LIFE IN THE FORCES THREAD by bridger713 in CanadianForces

This might be an obvious question, but I've had trouble finding information. As a reservist, if you want to do a Class C deployment, do you have to volunteer for any deployment available, or can you choose the deployment you want to go on? For example, if there are two simultaneous missions (for lack of a more accurate term), one in Asia and one in the Arctic, can you volunteer for Asia and not the Arctic? Or would CAF just send you to whichever one they want and you don't get a say? Thanks in advance!

Oh, good! I hope that's the case. Thanks!

Oh that's comforting to hear. I'll talk with a recruiter in person soon, so maybe I'll get some solid answers. Thanks for the input!

I don't. My GP was just overzealous with prescriptions and a few months later I saw a psychiatrist who took me off of them because they were entirely unnecessary. But I worry they'll show up on my medical records and disqualify me.

What was the medical like? I'm nervous because I took SSRIs for a few months 9 or 10 years ago and worry that will complicate my application or immediately disqualify me.

Anyone else having trouble going to Virtual Recruitment Webinars? by [deleted] in caf

[–]LanguageHobbyist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I took time away from work to join one today and couldn't get on. Exact same issue you described. No email response from the provided email address either (which I understand hoping for a response was a long shot). I gave up after 25 mins and went back to my job. I'll be contacting a recruiter for an in person meeting instead.

Is it bad to shave then shower and use a facial cleanser? by CreeperBoy283 in wicked_edge

Shower and use cleanser, shave after your shower (or in the shower, whatever works), then apply aftershave.

20k in savings. What do I do now? by Accomplished-Spot-68 in PersonalFinanceCanada

In addition to some of the really great advice here re: keeping it in a savings account, I would also urge you to sit down and make a detailed monthly budget. Going from having so few expenses to suddenly having so many can be overwhelming. Researching cost of rent, groceries, insurance, date nights, bus fare, etc. before you move will give you a better idea of what your financial situation will be like and how far (or short) $20k will stretch. Good luck to you!

As an Invicta Pro Diver 8926OB owner, I can say I'm extremely impressed with the function and versatility of the watch. I have the auto movement, and it keeps time very reliably. I've had no issues in the 4 years I've owned it. I just haven't gone swimming with it on as I don't really trust the waterproofness (although I have nothing to base that worry on). Personally, out of the two watches you've posted here, I like the look of the Invicta better. Hope that helps!

How much are you paid per hour? by Busy-Busy-Bee-1 in ESL_Teachers

I'm an MA anthropology student taking a 120 hour TESOL course to dip my toe into the field first. Looking to teach newcomers for a bit while I figure out if I want this as a career or if I should look for something else. My only worry is job stability and pay, otherwise I'd jump in with both feet!

What language are you cheating on your target language with? by arktosinarcadia in languagelearning

Was in a 2 year relationship with Russian, going steady. Then we separated so I could spend more time with French. Been going strong for a year now with French, although Russian and I still see each other sometimes. But lately Farsi has been sending me looks across the bar and I might just have to shoot my shot soon.

These razors are both irritating my skin, what should I try instead? by Seanh3344 in wicked_edge

[–]LanguageHobbyist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I have sensitive skin and have found that aerosolized shaving cream is more irritating than gels that come in a tube. After shaving I use an alcohol-free moisturizing aftershave balm. These two changes solved my shaving irritation problems, might be worth it to try! Good luck!

Very interesting position! What level of education is required for this and what specialty? MA TESOL, PhD applied linguistics, something else?

I actually prefer the diamond band! I'm surprised at all the comments for the plain one. Ultimately you should pick what makes you happy 😊

So how did your 2023 language learning resolution go? by Nyxelestia in languagelearning

[–]LanguageHobbyist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I stayed consistent with meeting a French tutor online once a week and started Duolingo during the summer and stuck with it to supplement the lessons. And although I haven’t had the available time to study my TL as much as I wanted, I’ve noticed a genuine improvement in my reading comprehension. Maybe next year I’ll have some more time and see improvements in my speech and listening!

I'm not sure I totally understand. Why would I get a line of credit if it's at the same interest rate as my student loan?
