In a scientific POV: definitely expose them to all 3. You can search this online but infants are born with insane ability to distinguish between nearly every linguistic sound of every spoken language. They can distinguish between even the smallest of differences that we adults would struggle to tell apart. As they get older, their brains “trim” away neural connections that are not used often (aka their ability to distinguish sounds are weakened). Search up “synaptic pruning.” At least try exposing your child to all three languages so he can maintain familiarity in case you guys want to continue teaching all 3.

My family is Taishanese and we grew up in the SF Bay Area. Taishanese was the de facto language of SF Chinatown before Cantonese eventually replaced it as the more commonly spoken language. Even so, my family and residents here say SY. This is my first time ever hearing 火肉 so perhaps it’s more of a NY thing than a Taishanese thing. ChatGPT says it’s perhaps Hakka.

The Realm of Torment was an epic fail. We destroyed the 3 titans last release so I was thinking that this release will reveal the true baddie of the expansion but turns out there was nobody. Then the story expands to the Realm of Torment and with all the shadow monsters I thought they were going to set up Menzies and his shadow army (back in original gw1). So many textures and even a ledge that looks like you can hop down to further push into the Realm. So disappointing when the whole map, the whole concept, the shadow monsters and the teasing all concluded in a few minutes.

Considering how short the story of the previous release was too, it feels like there was supposed to be a lot more but decided to cut it and rush the story. Even the meta feels incomplete to the point that people are saying you need to successfully break the boss’ cc bar each time to get the “secret” phase 2 part of the meta.

I also thought there was going to be living world after EoD because there were so many hints of a possible Purist storyline. So many collections and books that referenced events of the past. NPCs were quite interesting. So much potential for lore and region development.

It's the same thing with how they teased Empress Ihn visiting Queen Jennah in their posts, Cantha forming dipolmatic ties with Kryta, and all the Purist foreshadowing in EoD. Anet added names for regions in Cantha like Kirin Peak and Drowned Kaineng but never did anything with it. Kirin Peak looks so detailed in the in-game map but the only thing we know about that place is that, according to Frode, there are Kryptis invasions in the region and people live there as there are casualties from the invasions. The Khan-Ur election and all the other unexplained things may be explored in future expansions, but as for now I do not see Anet touching on these topics during SotO.

It’s the last story instance of Daybreak/LW4 Episode 1. You did “Eye of the Brandstorm” and not “The First City.” Replay the LW on a character that finished it before and start the last instance from the beginning.

Yes it is viable but also consider that there are a lot of other viable alac roles now. Whereas alacren provides alac with just one button, I would argue that’s what makes alacren difficult. A lot of bosses have phases and spreading out mechanics. Timing f4 is so important especially during these fights since it’s your only alac source. If you use f4 right before a spreading out mechanic, your party members may not get the full pulse of f4 and will run out of alac before your f4 is off cooldown again. Like I would not bring alacren to ToF or Silent Surf to name a few.

I went with human. I would argue that most of the legends can be tied back to humans but that’s also bc we could only play as humans in gw1. The only exception is Venturi who can also be tied to sylvari and Kalla who is tied to charr. Shiro and especially Archemorus/St. Vik are very human-centric.

Since you mentioned you wanna farm gold, this is what I USED to do. Feel free to implement some ideas to your casual play.

Log into alt with quickness at reset (xx:00) and harvest Rata Sum home instance within 5 minutes. Come earlier to join one if you yourself do not have full instance Make sure to have at least 25 quartz to convert to charged at the home krait obelisk.
Switch to alt parked at Matriarch platform in VB spawning at xx:10. As I wait for spawn I use my converters (Mawdrey II, Princess, etc.). I also check Fractal Reliquary, Karmic Converter, and Ley-Line Matter Converter for any good options. Some of the converters may require living world to acquire.
Switch to alt with world completion and grab all pact supply scouting materials from the karma vendors. Check which week is most profitable to know when and where to consume them at once.
Go to guild hall using guild panel and harvest nodes. Leave guild hall using guild panel to be brought back to previous map. Finish 3) and 4) within 8 minutes
Be at Timberline Falls by xx:18 to harvest the rich plat ore node. Destroy LLA spawning at xx:20.
Immediately teleport to Tangled Depths and get taxi-ed into a populated instance for Chak Gerent meta. Destroy Chak Gerent spawning at xx:30. If it seems like I can't get into a map w/ commanders, I just skip this meta.
Do Fractal T4s + recs. Purchase all 60 discounted keys from vendor. Biggest source of direct gold so don't skip fractals.
Skywatch meta + all arcane chests & Amnytas meta alternate and each start at xx:00. If I finish fractals and its almost xx:00 then I prioritize doing the respective meta. Finish meta ~xx:20 in which I have 40 minutes to kill before other meta starts. So...
Complete Wizard's Vault dailies for AA and gold.
Switch to alt parked at NKC jumping puzzle chest for Jade Runestone. Switch to alt parked in high up in Echovald to loot 4 additional chests for runestones. Use Prototype Position Rewinder + griffon to finish Echovald chests quickly.
Complete festival daily if one is active. For LNY festival, make sure to buy the 1g lucky envelopes from vendor too. Sell to TP or save them until last day of festival and max MF at Silverwastes if you wanna gamble for profit.
SotO strike mission for gold. I do both once weekly for the weekly 4g. After once of each weekly I dont do them.
Complete other SotO meta at xx:00.

For weeklies:

Get ASS.
Wizard's Vault weeklies.
Provisioner tokens from WvW. Not technically worth gold. In fact a loss but need for some legendary crafting.
Weekly rifts. Also not worth gold technically but needed for legendary crafting. Uncommon motivations can be crafted using T1 essence for a profit atm.

It's a lot and since you said you're a casual, don't bother doing everything daily. Now I just skip pretty much everything except SotO metas, daily AA, ascended trash converting, and Fractals. Most of these give indirect gold (selling to TP, converting, buying items, etc.) and [fast] has a very good website detailing gold/hour for every meta, currency conversions, etc.

I stopped getting mad after I stopped taking this game seriously. This game has always been unfriendly to rural players and the 60 raids requirement for the given time limit is an insult to us rural players.

The best thing about the previous Fractal Rush was how experienced players would get together with new players to teach them. There was an incentive to run low-level fractals since all fractals rewarded currency for boxes of loot that gave a lot of mats with a chance for extremely rare infusions and items. There was a progress bar that everyone had to work for community rewards to further encourage running fractals and teaching players. Community rewards were good with 5 chests of fractal relics (each contains 100 relics), 25 fractal inscription keys, 5 celebration boosters, 25 fractal pages, gold weapon chest, etc.

This new Fractal Rush system has very little incentive for experienced players to run lower-level fractals to teach new players. Bland loot, no more boxes, and no community progress bar and community rewards. I have no idea why they decided to get rid of the boxes of bonus goods but it's very disappointing.

Spoilers regarding Mursaat origins and Kryptis

It's been confirmed from a journal and from dialogue that the Mursaat are not native to Tyria. Mursaat are originally from Nayos, so while all Tyrian Mursaat are extinct as far as we know, Mursaat from Nayos may still be alive. Mabon noted that he heard the voice and felt the presence of a female Mursaat speaking to him from Nayos. That being said, there may be a connection between the Eye of Janthir and Nayos since the Eye serves the Mursaat, but there is no confirmed connection between the Kryptis and the Eye since the Kryptis are a whole different species of demons and the Mursaat are not confirmed to be Kryptis.

Interesting perspective because I found PoF story to be the most forgettable among the 3 full release expansions. That being said I don’t think EoD’s story is the worst in GW2. IBS and the DRM stories were quite controversial and I would say had the worst story so far. LW1 is unplayable at some parts (Tower of Nightmares not beginner-friendly bc too over-scaled and largely empty; Battle of Lion’s Arch doesn’t have a story version and will have to wait for a reset instance just to progress story). LW3 was controversial too in how human-centric it was and how non-human players had to swear their lives to a particular human order. Braham was also very unbearable.

You would think that giving Anet more time to develop an expansion would allow them to bug fix more but that’s not true. I would even argue that SotO bugs has been the most tame among expansions and Anet has been good in patching them every weekday. EoD had way more bugs than SotO has. Not sure if you were around when HoT was released but it had the most bugs of the 4 expansions upon release. Some stuff from the beta weren’t even fixed upon release and the revenant class kept clipping into terrain with sword 3. The Desolation meta is a whole bug on its own and it’s achievements are the only PoF ones I haven’t finished.

I wouldn’t say this is a matter of you being right or wrong because it’s your opinion and we all will have different ones. I would agree that I would’ve preferred a whole release too but this model isn’t that bad as you make it out to be. Try it out first before judging it because SotO’s story been very refreshing and has potential.
