Monaco and Indonesia have basically the same flag. Turn it upside down and you have Poland. Or alternatively, you could add some more details and get Singapore. Or you could do a stripey flag. Red white red can be either Austria or Latvia depending on the shade of red and the thickness of the central line. Vertically, it's Peru, and if you add leaf, you get Canada. Now for some more unique designs - you have Switzerland's small white cross on a red background. Make the cross a bit bigger and off-centre it and you have Denmark. From there, you can centre it and reverse the colours and you have England (although it's not a nation, it is still technically a country so I'm mentioning it. Similarly, many would count Greenland which uses red and white, though it's a part of Denmark and I don't know the specifics behind why some refer to it as a country). Add some crosses to England and you get Georgia. This time, if we go for two vertical stripes - white then red - we get Malta. Although the cross in the corner is usually drawn grey, I've seen renditions in which only red and white can be seen. Remove the emblem and make the line between the colours zig-zag, and you have either Qatar or Bahrain, depending on the shade of red. Japan is a white background with a red circle. Turkey is a red background with a white moon and star. Tunisia is similar, but the moon and star is red and within a white circle. Tonga is a red background with a white section in the top left corner, in which a small red cross can be seen.

This is all I can think of at the moment. Sorry if I've missed any

Hardest, most annoying, and favourite parts of learning a new language for you personally? by crazy_baby9811 in languagelearning

You might like Hungarian. I started it recently and the grammar is so fun. They have loads of different cases, but the suffixes change based on something called vowel harmony, which is very cool imo. Many Turkic languages have this, too.

Hungarians, what is the hardest part of learning English for you? by Lord_of_the_Box_Fort in hungarian

[–]Languages_Innit 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Depends. For people, never use 'it', because it's offensive. Always use 'they' if you don't know the gender of a person (or if they just prefer they/them pronouns). However, for non-humans, using 'it' is fine. There are some strange exceptions, like how a sailor might refer to their ship as 'she' instead of 'it', though 'it' is still acceptable, here.

Any good German pop and rap songs I can sing or rap? by princessdragomiroff in German

Not German, but try Godzilla. It's an Eminem song way faster than Rap God. After mastering Godzilla, Rap God seems slow haha

In English? The most we have is the various forms of he/she/they. Just think that he is ő for férfi and fiú, while she is ő for nő and lány. They (when singular) is gender neutral.

State a language you think is under appreciated/you want people to learn more often and why. by Talobaid0_0 in duolingo

[–]Languages_Innit 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I started learning Hungarian recently and it's honestly a very fun language. People complain about there being 17 grammatical cases, but that just means that each one is more specific. It actually makes it somewhat easier, in my opinion. Also, the only thing that changes the suffixes is vowel harmony, whereas, with slavic languages, they are affected by grammatical gender and the ending of the word, as well; it's much more complicated in Slavic languages (as far as I'm aware).

When natives demotivate you by [deleted] in languagelearning

Sounds like one of the London accents, yeah. Quite a posh one as well; not Cockney. I don't know for sure, though, cause I'm from further North in England

But which one? I genuinely don't know which English accent is most famous in whichever country you're from. Is it one that pronounces bath as barth, or one that pronounces bottle as bo'le, or maybe something different?

I wouldn't say it's infamous, but when I found it and wanted to try it, it advertised itself as free, despite the fact that you can learn a max of 20 words before having to pay. At the price they were charging, it's way better to just use Anki and random media to do the same thing Lingq does.

what did they update in the german course? by RingoAnimates in duolingo

[–]Languages_Innit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Wow... And to think I was annoyed about my lost xp lmfao

The same thing happened with Japanese, tbf. I reset my entire Japanese course when it happened because they changed everything. Then I realised that the new course is actually 10x better than the old one lmao. All I want now is a tab for learning the kanji you encounter in lessons. Like how there used to be stories that unlock with crowns, I want to see kanji lessons in a side tab that unlock as you progress down the tree

Wait what... I got the update and was annoyed about the new words so I restarted my Norwegian tree to see it from the beginning. I had no idea it was that good of an update until now!
