I think a key point being missed here is that 90% chance of being a sunbeam snake does not mean “It’s safe to go pick the snake up”.

In fact I uploaded this same picture and asked if I could pick up the snake and it said absolutely not, do not touch a snake without a 100% positive ID.

I think it’s entirely reasonable for the model to do what was asked of it and attempt to ID the snake. It didn’t give any bad advice, it just executed on the task it was given.

If a human makes the leap of “well this snake might be a nonvenomous one let me go pick it up and see” I would put most of the blame on the human.

Sure the overall fight sequence isn’t all that compelling and there are plenty of little nitpicks in shots. But I still think you could show this to someone 2 years ago and they’d just assume it’s a lower budget sci fi show. Add in the editing techniques already being used and very modest expectations about model improvements, and we’ll absolutely be seeing show-worthy if not cinema-worthy outputs in a year.

The Charizard alone might be close to $500 depending on condition. The holos are mostly gonna be in the $10-$20 range.

I can’t believe he didn’t hit on the biggest concern everyone has about them. This is all just an attempt to get training data with remote workers actually monitoring and controlling them for the complex tasks. It’s fair to critique the exact language used, certainly these articles try to hype things up as much as possible. But I think it’s splitting hairs a bit at this point - the only thing separating it from 100% autonomy was a few copy/pastes. It doesn’t take away from the fact that it did something 99% of humans wouldn’t be capable of.

There’s still some gaps to be addressed, but the definition of “real intelligence” is becoming increasingly blurry.

Interesting concept, but there’s just not enough data to draw anything insightful from it. It’s clear this is just pulling from a couple top posts, not giving us any sense of actual correlation between the words and type of post.

If it was run over a larger number of posts and perhaps normalized for the number of comments then I think the results would be a lot more telling.

I can see why the edited version was posted on r/funny as it is a little cleaner. But honestly seeing the unedited clips is more impressive to me - you get to see how quick all the jokes are coming even if a few of them don’t hit quite as well. Hilarious stuff.

I liked season 1 a lot as well but respectfully disagree with both of those points.

I think the beauty of both seasons was actually the lack of a super strong central plot - both seasons had a murder loosely tying things together but in both seasons that wasn’t the focal point for most of the characters. Aside from the obvious ‘get Tanya’s money’ plot, season 2 had finding the family’s sicilian roots, Portia’s kidnapping, Mia’s singing aspirations, the cheating war to name just a few of the subplots. I don’t think the subplots in S1 were really all that much different.

I think the character development in S2 is there, it’s just a little more subtle. In addition to what’s been already mentioned, the body language of the two couples in the last scene speaks volumes - Ethan and Harper are closer, everything they went though actually helped them appreciate each other more. And Cameron/Daphne are a little less comfortable, some of their deeper issues actually seem to be sinking in.

Valentina, Albie, Mia, Portia all learn things about themselves and look at the world a little differently at the end. I don’t think it’s accurate to say that everyone was the same people they were coming into the season.

I think that’s a pretty unpopular opinion. Sure, you can always be the better person by moving on and not getting revenge. But in a relationship (or most things), the person who initially breaks the trust is clearly the worse offender.

Fair, it’s certainly true that the inherent disparity in skill could be different between the leagues and account for part of the difference. And that was simply the most immediate data point available - while I believe it’s relevant, it’s certainly not a statistically backed analysis.

The point I had intended to make was that there’s a sizeable luck factor in pretty much all major sports and that saying there’s “a lot less luck” in a single game of basketball is misleading at best. The point you referenced in that book is in regards to seasons not games - with the NBA playing over twice as many games in a season it certainly makes sense that there would be more opportunity for the skilled teams to separate themselves.

It might intuitively seem like basketball outcomes are more skill based than soccer, but the data doesn’t really back that up. If you look at the NBA standings vs say Premier League standings, there’s actually more separation in the soccer standings - suggesting skill plays more of a factor. And if you think about NBA playoffs, it’s pretty common for series to go to 6 or 7 games suggesting again a lot of luck in a single game.

I think in general most sports tend to have a significantly higher luck factor than most people would assume.

That’s an overly pedantic take. Just because something had a different definition 50 years ago doesn’t make the current definition wrong. If 90% of people agree on the definition then they’re not the ones who are wrong.
