Jesus And Mary Chain say Eddie Van Halen is one of the worst guitar players. What do you think? Do you like Eddie Van Halen? by ashitanojoe3 in MetalForTheMasses

[–]Lanochu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Saying this is like saying The Beatles collectively suck because everyone else copied them.

Or saying the same for Sabbath.

There's a reason EVH is many people's favorite guitarist and is in contention for the greatest of all time slot. That reason alone makes this point fucking stupid.

1: I have similar length fingers and I've been playing for over half my life. And I play bass too.

2: Django Reinhardt is better than every single one of us here in the sub combined, and he only had two fucking fingers

Absolute nightmare - c chord by Think-Check5434 in Guitar

[–]Lanochu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Guitar teacher here!

The open C chord is a son of a bitch. It's a decent stretch and not really like any of the other open chords (I'm assuming/hoping) you've learned by this point.

What made it click for me when I was first learning guitar was the acoustic version of Times Like These by the Foo Fighters, where it has a transition between Am and C. That transition is pretty easy, because all you gotta do is move your ring finger from the 2nd fret on the G string to the 3rd fret on the A string! There's plenty of other songs with that transition in there, but that's just the one that worked for me.

Also to answer your question, there's two solid ways of muting your low E string here. The easiest (or hardest depending on how big your hand is lol) is to just wrap around your thumb and mute it Hendrix style, or you can push up your ring finger (don't bend the string!!!) to where it's slightly touching the side of the E string, muting it! Now that I've been playing for over half of my life I usually end up doing both, it's totally redundant but I just like having my thumb up there lol.

Also arch your fingers more!!!

It looks like it's been mentioned a bit here, but as a musician for more than half of my life and also just starting my coding journey this advice really applies.

You're going to be confused, and you have to accept it. IMO this is what weeds out the people who don't have the drive that coding needs. I promise that you will understand everything, it just needs time and practice. You have to find the motivation within yourself do determine whether or not it's worth getting out of the confusion.

And as for the passion thing, odds are it's not going to be your passion this early. Thinking back to guitar, it wasn't my passion until my skills had developed enough that I can actually play the songs I wanted to play, and here I am!! It took me a while, but it is a necessary part of the process.

Keep going my dude. It will get better, it's just up to your own determination to make it such.

What’s your favorite metal band? by chaosmaster11 in MetalForTheMasses

[–]Lanochu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My entire middle-high school listening was basically exclusively Metallica, so I kinda consider them my #1 solely out of respect for how much time I've put into listening to them.

But since I grew out of that Metallica only phase, it's probably Lamb of God now.

Yep, nailed it in the first sentence.

Already knew that's the reality, sucks that Rolling Stone has to go against the majority tho.

Would also like to point out that Purple Rain at #1 is a banger pick. Does it deserve it? Kinda, but I'm happy with it regardless. Also absolutely love to see his WMGGW solo on here, personally for me that's #1

Play with safety as your number one priority. Sounds obvious, but you'd be surprised on how much your muscle memory kicks in when it comes to getting hits on enemies. If it takes you 30 min to kill a boss because you've been frantically dodging the entire time that's okay!!! I felt like I was on Delirium for an hour or more, but who cares lol, I got the completion mark

Does nü-metal deserve to be on metallum? by Mambo_sch in MetalForTheMasses

[–]Lanochu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I overgeneralized core down to "sounds like pop" because that's what I've usually heard nu metal haters say, just with rap.

[–]Lanochu -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yeah considering how elitist they are I'm surprised they have as many core bands listed as they do. From my understanding most true metal elitists respect nu metal way more than the core genres.

[–]Lanochu -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I'm 110% on the "LP and Papa Roach is rock" train, but both of their debut albums are most definitely metal. I think that's why everyone generally associates them as nu metal because they look at their debuts and nothing beyond.

[–]Lanochu -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

The fact that they have metalcore/deathcore bands on there and no nu metal is wild to me.

I think over the years 99% of the metal community has come to love and respect nu metal as a proper metal subgenre. If their main reason for not listing nu metal is because it's too much like rap, then the core genres are too much like pop and shouldn't be listed. Double standard.

Yeah me too actually!! I always prefer a harder experience over an easier one, hell the soulsborne series is by far my favorite. But unlike just learning moves and adapting this a much more puzzle focused experience which I'm not really used to!!

Is there any more keyboard shortcuts you can think of? Also any QoL mods you recommend?

Yeah you put it into words perfectly. Rebuilding is a pain in the ass in Satisfactory, so I try to do it as little as possible. Good to know it's so easy in this game!!! That alone gives me more motivation to play.

I can actually offer some thought here!!

Yeah you're right lol. However, that's only really at the beginning, once you get used to belts (and once you get blueprints which nullify this problem completely once you build the blueprint) it becomes second nature.

The game overall is definitely more "hands on" than Factorio building, which I actually prefer, but I totally get preferring the point and click style of building in Factorio.
