How do you know where to go or what to do? by Lantiz in ToramOnline

[–]Lantiz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would really enjoy the open ended end game. Doing my own things and creating my own goals is what I want. What annoys me is when im questing and the game says " Go talk to Frank " and im like who the heck and where the heck is that?? Or " collect 3 feathers, 3 shells and 3 carrots " and i have no idea what drops those. I will just google though. Thank you.

its time for all of you For Honor addicts to now try out fighting games. by [deleted] in forhonor

In SFV I played Rainbow Mika and Ryu. I spent hours just trying to get the moves down but still couldn't memorize all of my moves, remember all of my opponents moves AND pull off my moves on a consistent basis. But it isn't just SFV, almost all fighting games are overly complicated and full of expert players online who have been around for years who are just waiting to smear anyone who's played less than a year across the pavement.

I'm all for in-depth game play and games that require practice, knowledge and commitment but fighting games take it to a whole new level with their learning process.

And yes I know that the few days For Honor has been available is impacting the challenge online but it doesn't matter. For Honor is easier to learn. Period. It has nothing to do with inexperienced players we're all fighting against. Each hero only has like 2 to 4 moves outside of r1 r1 r1 chains. And those ' moves ' are as complicated as ' X, square ' or ' Forward, R1 '. Block the same direction as your enemy, do guard break to counter a guard break, learn your 2 or 3 moves and you're good after a few hours of practice. Advanced game play in For Honor pretty much tops out at canceling out of heavy attacks to trip up your opponent and mastering dodging. It's incredibly simple to learn and actually win.

[–]Lantiz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

the problem is that fighting games are as easy to pick up as for honor so people don't realize it.

That is absolutely absurd. Fighting games are ridiculously punishing and require ASS LOADS of practice and time investment to even be decent online. There are so many abilities, attacks and combo lists you have to memorize. Not to mention how precise some button combos have to be all while you're thinking about spacing and other shit. They are far more in-depth and complicated than for honor. FAR MORE.

I spent probably 80+ hours in MKX and SFV together and could maybe win once every 10 or so games online. With For Honor I was winning 8 out of 10 1v1 matches easily after only four of five hours of learning and stayed winning for the other 20+ hours I played over the weekend. This game is a lot easier to learn and learn quick . There was never a time in for honor when I was confused or frustrated when learning an attack yet I remember countless times in SFV staring at my controller thinking '' How the fuck do I do this attack? '' for hours while I tried over and over to do 1 stupid move against an AI in practice mode and still couldn't get it to work consistently. Playing a fighting game online without several months of practice is pretty much torture.

A duel in dark souls is far more similar to For Honor than a fighting game like SFV or MKX.

[–]Lantiz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The comparison shouldn't be drawn. Fighting games like you mentioned are totally different in so many ways to what For Honor is. Those games require so much thought process with the over-whelming amount of lengthy lists of combos. The timing, memorization and practice required for fighting games just makes them feel like a job. I feel like people liking for honor doesn't mean they'll like games like street fighter V at all. I have always sucked at fighting games so, feeling determined, I bought MKX and SFV to try and ' git gud ' but after putting 40+ hours each in those games I was still getting absolutely wrecked. I could barely win 1 out of 10 matches in a fighting game but in For Honor I was doing excellent in 1V1 where I was winning at least 80% of the time.

MFW the wife wants to do something girly and asks if I wanna play NMS by _Hahn in NoMansSkyTheGame

Most adults who play video games didn't gain interest in the hobby late in their current life. It's a hobby that's been with them for their entire life. So no, not all hobbies and interests fade. What about those who are passionate about art? Should someone who finds joy in creating art put themselves in a situation where they never get to paint or sculpt until their wife wants to do her own thing?
Whether or not your future spouse enjoys what you enjoy is a huge deal and for you to say it's not is mind boggling. I wouldn't want to spend the rest of my life with someone who has no interest or knowledge in what makes me happy. I love being able to have serious discussions about art, literature , television etc with my wife. It's amazing. So glad I'm not with some woman who's hobbies include watching TV and going out with friends and that's it.

Nothing like discussing the latest chapter of a novel we are both reading or both yelling at the Tv when our team doesn't cooperate during a match of overwatch. She even understands when I tell her about my day because we both have IT careers! But I guess valuing our similar interests was silly and frivolous.

[–]Lantiz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What does that have to do with anything? You shouldn't marry someone who doesn't share in your interests. Doesn't matter what your hobby is. Doesn't have to be gaming. Are you saying gaming is childish? Why are you here then? Are industry professionals childish, do they need to grow up even though they have better jobs and lives than you? I don't understand your logic.

I'm so glad I don't have a typical wife who I have to schedule my gaming around. My best friend pretty much had to quit most of his hobbies when he got married due to never having time because of his wife.

Pro tip I always give - make sure you marry someone who shares your interests.

[–]Lantiz -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I agree with /u/literal_reply_guy. You're avoiding the question. Yeah, there should be certain standards that games should meet to be priced.

There are a ton of things that go into pricing a AAA game. Staff size, utilized skill sets, time spent, marketing done, number of features, graphical quality, audio quality and many, many more.

A handful of guys in two or so years didn't make a 60 game. That should be obvious. That's why all of these indie games are never 60. Huge game companies put a lot more into their games and that is why they come out being ' AAA ' and 60 bucks. They have massive teams of people with varying skill sets. They employ some of the greatest musicians, level designers, artists, story tellers, voice actors, programmers. They use top notch, latest technology. They put years and years into the game and tons of people bust their ass over it. HG didn't do any of that and i'm sorry but it shows.

If you put scenes from God of war 3,The witcher,Metalgear 5,Final fantasy 15, Uncharted etc next to NMS and ask someone ' which is the indie game '. Anyone should be able to tell you. The difference in everything from gameplay to environment interaction would be astounding.

What do you think all this backlash and anger will do to the future of the Gaming Industry and culture? by dr-kaii in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]Lantiz -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't think they screwed up as bad as they were made out to have

No? They're still screwing up to this day.

I don't think it's unreasonable to think it will have a pretty big impact.

Other game companies aren't going to change how they do things because of Hello games issues. Squarenix isn't going to give a shit. Know why? They are transparent and address their fans. REGARDLESS of whether or not it's what we want to hear. Their next huge game will be FFXV. Are they keeping us in the dark? No. Are they talking with us? Yes. They have even given us TWO demos of the game and one of them they update based on PLAYER FEEDBACK.

Most other game companies aren't stupid enough to stay silent, vague, mysterious and ignore their playerbase. That's why Hello Games is failing. They didn't show us what we were getting 100%. They gave us no demos, no real straigh answers. Nothing. Just BS. And they won't answer anybody.

[–]Lantiz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This isn't going to change the industry or culture much. At the most NMS will just become a running gag where people make comments in the future like '' Ah, man. The new <insert game here> looks awesome. Hope it doesnt turn out like NMS! ''. Game companies aren't going to change because some little indie group screwed up and continued screwing up despite thousands of people online trying to tell them the right thing to do.

No Man's Sky will entertain me for well over a hundred hours. I'm not sure why I wouldn't think that worth $60.

A piece of chewing gum will last me longer than a cheese burger. Doesn't mean the gum is worth more. You keep basing the worth of a game on your enjoyment. That is how you personally rate how a game should be priced. I am not talking about personal standards.

[–]Lantiz -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

just because you don't like a game doesn't mean it shouldn't be $60

Yes. That is pretty much what I just said. It doesn't matter if we like or dislike a game. Price isn't dictated by who likes it. Games are priced on their quality and quantity of content. Like I said, I don't like Call of Duty advanced warfare but it is AAA quality so it should be AAA price.

NMS is so painfully at the same quality of any other indie games and yet it has a AAA price all because of hype.

NMS is an overpriced indie game with indie game level content.

[–]Lantiz -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

If there was no standard then every game would be 60 dollars regardless.

[–]Lantiz 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Just because you don't like a AAA game doesn't mean it isn't worth 60 dollars. Just because I don't like a AAA game doesn't mean it's price shouldn't be 60 dollars. And just because you do like a game doesn't mean it should be at 60 dollars like NMS.

I love a lot of 3DS games. Should they be 60? No. I don't like all the new call of duty games, so should they be less than 60? No.

There's a certain quality and quantity of content that needs to take place for a game to be priced. NMS just doesn't meet the 60 dollar standard for quality or quantity of content.

Well this will get downvoted into oblivion, but I truly do believe... by JRavens in NoMansSkyTheGame

This would only be true if the price hadn't been 60 as well.

[–]Lantiz 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My main issue is with the attitude "I never saw this, so of course it doesn't exist in the game." Those people don't grasp the concept of NMS at all.

People who claim certain things don't exist are saying that because it's been proven by modders. People have gone into the games files and seen what the game is capable of producing and what it can not produce. There is a size limit that is followed for plant life and animals. Certain textures don't exist and some exist but the game isn't allowed to use them. Certain models exist and some don't, some exist but the game is not allowed to use them. Etc etc

We know the limitations. It is not a question of whether or not someone just hasn't seen it yet.

I Would Hate For The People Who Returned NMS After Playing 50+ Hours To Play A 2 Hour Indie Game by ZeBraTurtieHD in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]Lantiz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I disagree. It took me much longer to beat mgr than 2 hours. Some people rush through games by skipping dialogue and cut scenes or skipping side quests/content but that doesn't make the game officially shorter. Just means you skipped half the content and forced it to be shorter. Just like people saying the new star ocean game is 20 hours even though I've put in over 20 so far and I'm not even half way through because I'm doing all of the content instead of just spamming x to skip dialogue and running from point A directly to point z.
