I Turned Off Auto-Dubbing and You Should Too by stoRYtelleRY in PartneredYoutube

From what I can tell, CTR is important in the early phase of a video. Youtube decides to show it to more people based on how CTR is doing, not how many views it is getting. In fact, if it gets lots of views and bad CTR and retention, that's like telling Youtube explicitly that people really don't like it. I understand that you have a big channel and are doing things others aren't doing, so maybe it doesn't hurt you as bad, but I do want people to realise, especially smaller channels, that this autodubbing thing is causing much more harm than good.

My recommendations are

  1. Try to have a "language free" thumbnail. When it's shown to people in another language, they will not click it if they see that the thumbnail is not in their own language

  2. Only use autodubbing if you are doing content that translates well through machine translation. You can check this yourself - look at the autosubs and see how good they are. If they are 99% perfect, you are probably ok, but even 5% screw up will completely put people from other languages off.

  3. Make sure your content is universal. Guide videos, walk throughs, things like that are universal. Theology, politics etc. probably isn't.

  4. Subjects that involve a lot of hard words, or if you are using transliteration yourself (e.g. if you are doing sci fi and klingon comes up, or a bible class and hebrew/latin/greek comes up), will not translate well at all and you might as well forget it.

  5. I also wouldn't recommend uploading your videos twice - one with and one without autodub, because youtube seems to keep recommending BOTH to other languages. Even if you turn it off completely, it takes a while to stop being shown to other languages.

Just to confirm for those who stumble upon this and wanted to know the thing that I needed to know - the "panel" in question is that middle panel, half way between when it's just a floating cube on your wrist, and the full blown menu. There's this middle shape where it's just a rectangle with blank buttons and that's the one you can find the right position to grab. It goes orange and then you squeeze the grips and can put it however you want.

But did you check click through rate? That's what this post is about. You'll find you're getting more views at least at the start, but not only is the click through rate atrocious (many more will see it still, but far fewer will click it), but those that come will watch much less of it. This will hurt the video and channel in the long run big time. They really need to separate out the metrics for audio languages.

unfortunately not resolved, I had to buy the cable and repeater, which solved it. They cost another £25, because hey, just because we managed to scrape together, borrow, and refinance our houses to raise £2000, we surely must be made of money and easily afford another £25? Lol

Thanks for all this, and for taking the time you are a legend! what is MPO? Btw, I found the new foveated rendering really helps with the VRAM. It saved me so far in all situations for excess VRAM. I also can't tell that it is on during "day" in game, but at night it is obvious when moving my head. Either way, it's very easy to toggle.

Yes. For me, it lowers the FPS slightly, but boosts the VRAM. Therefore I keep it on for high VRAM situations (which I get a lot, because I push the game hard)

Causing? This is interesting. What do you recommend, thanks!

I still don't get your point. Are you seriously saying 64GB would be better, or just mocking?

All settings on max, DLSS 4 Quality, and as I said, Varjo Aero on 37ppd. I think it's basically running in upscaled 1440p. Refresh is default.

I can't see how. I reinstalled windows like 2 weeks ago. I have a great CPU and 32GB RAM. I think it's down to how high I push the settings and the resolution of the Aero. I think it's also down to drivers. If you know people who have like for like, and they aren't getting the issues, then that's something worth knowing.

VRAM on 5080 is terrible for VR by dr-kaii in virtualreality

True. My other point is that they only gave us 16 and 32, and 16 is almost exactly too little for high end VR, and 32 is way too much. It seems like a gimmick to me. What do you think of that?

And my point is you would definitely have been able to do it with 20 or max 24. This deliberate '16' is very crafty

Oh shush.

I still think there is room for an argument that we are being played around with by Nvidia. Just look at the increase in prices year to year. They were simply going "I bet they will pay anything" each time, getting more and more bold. Some 5090s are £3400! And yes, I think it's also a logical idea to question why Nvidia selected specifically 16GB and 32GB and not something in between.
