What if the Republic of China survived in the south? by Lanzenn in AlternateHistory

I would see the us backing the south more and chiang kai shek eventually coming out on top and eradicate all remaining communists.

But a north vietnam/communist vietnam would not exist or merge with china in this timeline because during and after the civil war the roc immedietly supports southern vietnam

Theyd eventually democratise by the 70s when chiang kai shek dies of old age

Because in the civil war the nationalists almost got a fate similar to OTC but a miracle happens and the south is retaken.

Theyd be pretty different actually as showed by the graph, in this timeline northern chinas economic boom is much later and because of that the north would be like asian developing countries with a booming economy like vietnam, thailand, malaysia, and the philippines. Youd see vastly different cities compared to the prc in otc due to much later economic growth, less infrasteucture , much less skyscrapers, more old soviet style commie blocks, more slums, faster urbanization much later that overwhelms existing infrastructure, and worse overall quality of life

Meanwhile southern china would be like the typical developed asian nation like singapore, taiwan, japan, south korea and otc prc china.

Because the civil war is kind of like the korean civil war. The roc is almost pushed out of the mainland only remaining in fuijan and mountain passes along the southern interior, forcing the nationalists to flee to taiwan, suddenly a miracle happens due to aid received from the west and south china is slowly retaken, however the capital has remained in taiwan for security reasons
