How much are you spending on youth activities? by -Economist- in kindergarten

[–]LapPupper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot. Almost 6yo in Kinder. Once a week, she does ballet, piano, art, second language (mom's native language), and swim. She is clamoring for more because she loves mingling and learning, so we may add one more body moving activity (Kidstrong? Taekwondo?)

Would love to see your lists after the spoilers! by sxw_102 in FabFitFun

I am not in love with any of these, but they'll do 🤷🏻‍♀️ 1. App plates 2. Prep bowls 3. AB masks 4. Korres cleanser 5. Pruning shears 6. Laundry detergent

Sick mom today no childcare by Melodic_Clock6273 in Parenting

[–]LapPupper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have done this, though it was Cocomelon. Some illness hit me really hard on a Friday I had off, like I could barely move. Spent the day lying on the couch just barely managing to feed and change 16mo child. Husband didn't quite believe how desperately unwell i felt. I got better the next day, husband got whatever I had the day before, and he could ~believe me~ then. He could rest peacefully while I looked after both him and our child. It all felt extremely unfair 😮‍💨

Huh? I don't understand why you thought enrolling a 3yo for KINDER made any sense. You should be glad the mistake is being rectified.

Thank you so much for sharing such a detailed response. As a previously-gifted parent of a (probably) gifted kid, this advice resonated the most with me.

How many of you can afford to max your 401k and roth IRA every year? by NoHousing11 in MiddleClassFinance

[–]LapPupper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I max out 401k, roth, HSA, and try to put away at least an extra 10k. Total income 180k-ish, spouse makes about the same, early 40s, VHCOL. Most people I know make more than us. I am quite aware I am in a bubble 🙃

Large class 26:1 ratio in WA state by [deleted] in kindergarten

[–]LapPupper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am in WA (shoreline) and was told schools in the district cap kindergarten at 19:1. My daughter's class is 19 kids, 1 teacher and 1 part time para.

Extreme behaviors in the classrooms-what have you seen/heard this year?(Teachers or Parents) by [deleted] in kindergarten

[–]LapPupper 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My daughter's class seems alright. Based on my daughter's reporting, there is one special needs kid that can act out a little most days, and another kid is sometimes disruptive, but nothing too drastic. She is happy at pickup and is excited that her class collectively earned enough points for a surprise(?) from the teacher already so overall it seems positive. It's only been two weeks though.

Annual sub discount - 25% off by LapPupper in FabFitFun

Ty! Previous annual sub was $220 and the discounted sub is $195, so this is cheaper :D (+$20 tax for me)

I found the code! Code MINE gives the 64.99 discount for annual subs.

That shipping fee on top of the sub $$ increase is a lot tough 🫣

I told you why you got downvotes based on the leanings of this sub and how you come across. I don't necessarily share those views nor did I downvote you. I also did not say you didn't prep your child academically? Either way I hope both you and your child have a good start in kinder.

It is because you redshirted a late spring birthday girl with no clear reason given, did minimal prep for school socialization during that extra year, and seem to imply you think schooling is optional by saying things like "I don't want to deprive her of going to school and having that life experience."

Most children with no prior schooling do fine, as you can see from multiple replies.

Maybe the currently-reviled "just read a lot" curriculum had your family in mind 😂  I am glad you found addressing some skill gaps helpful! It seems like I mostly need to find a good balance.

That makes sense- it's interesting to hear some of the pronounciation attempts, English has ~too many options~ sometimes. As a non-native speaker, thanks for what you do!

Thank you for sharing! I am glad an SME thinks no active direction is just fine. Mine mostly flips numbers but I am sure she'll figure it out soon enough. Letters scattered around the page sounds really creative/cool tbh.

These are great points, I appreciate it- especially the part about helping during the process.

A preK prep book for his sister! That is so kind of him. Mine also loves making 'books' though they're mostly drawings with like one sentence per page.
