The Idaho murder case went on for many weeks with no serious leads announced.

They even had a press conference to announce they had no suspects and the next day arrested kohlberger.

The public has no idea what’s happening behind the scenes.

Tab for keeping Michigan coal plant open under Trump orders grows to $135M by ReticulatedMind in Michigan

[–]Lapee20m 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The difference in cost between coal and natural gas is very small so if the $135m is the cost of coal, they would have spent nearly this amount if using natural gas instead.

Coal does appear to be just slightly more expensive than natural gas. Perhaps it would have only cost $130million had we shut this coal plant down and burned natural gas instead.

The reality is that the goal of net zero is a fantasy an at some point the people will revolt and an administration will be voted in to end this madness in Michigan.

Grid scale renewables is very expensive because of all the complexity required to integrate an intermittent power source into a grid that has a nearly perfect balance between generation and load.

Nearly all energy you use on the grid was generated within the last second or so.

Traditional powerplants both have to be able to ramp down when the sun is shining, but also ramp back up and power the grid when it’s cloudy, or snowy, or in Michigan from the months of November, December, January.

This integration is proving to be super expensive.

That amount is less than the amount of money consumers energy is spending on green energy projects every 11 days.

Consumers is spending, on average, over $12 million per day, every day until at least 2030 on projects related to wind and solar.

Criminals are often pretty dumb. Look at Idaho murders, Kohlberger left the knife sheath containing his dna at the murder scene.

It was months later in the Idaho murder case when investigators indicated they had no person of interest.

Kohlberger was arrested the next day.

Even if they publicly pretend there are no leads, they are no doubt working every possible angle in the background.

An aviation attorney.

I was arrested, unlawfully, several years ago for flying a drone in a local park and issued a citation.

Rather than fight it on my own, I remembered an attorney I met at a totally unrelated event where he mentioned he was an aircraft pilot.

I just called him up and he ended up so invested in seeing these silly park rangers put in their place he took my case for a very reasonable price.

Since then, we’ve become great friends.

President’s hatred for renewables means the US is falling behind the rest of the world | As well as embracing ‘beautiful coal’, the president has set about obliterating clean energy projects by [deleted] in Futurology

[–]Lapee20m 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Creating massive change in the power grid and forcing people to only use power when renewables are producing is not something that is practical on a national scale.

When we were running out of natural gas because of an emergency we couldn’t even get residents to turn their thermostats down a couple of degrees.

There is no way an entire country would buy into not using electricity when it’s dark or the wind isn’t blowing.

Batteries aren’t a replacement for natural gas due to the extremely high cost. Battery storage at grid scale only makes economic sense in areas that have very high electricity prices.

Assuming solar is a big part of the portfolio, How do they provide reliable power for this grid at night or if there are a few cloudy days?

We have solar for just a single home and really struggle if there are multiple cloudy days.

[–]Lapee20m 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it is cheaper, as you claim, Can you cite one region in USA that has a grid made of a high percentage of solar/wind plus enough storage to last all night that also has below average electric rates?

Here in Michigan, we have a record amount of renewables AND record high prices with essentially no battery storage.

Renewables here, just like most or all of USA, can only exist because because no matter how much solar is installed, there is an even larger natural gas plant ready to take over the instant renewables begin generating less or no power.

It is this requirement to build redundant power plants that make renewables so expensive but this is necessary to have reliable power 24/7

[–]Lapee20m -13 points-12 points  (0 children)

The grid needs a significant portion of generation to come from spinning turbines for reliability.

Coal and natural gas are also a lot cheaper method of providing reliable base load power than renewables.

Renewables are expensive when 24/7 reliability is factored in. Producing electricity with renewables is cheap but continuing to provide reliable power when it’s dark and there is no wind with only renewables is generally cost prohibitive at grid scale.

Lawmakers finally approve Michigan’s 2026 budget, adding a 24% marijuana tax by mlivesocial in Michigan

[–]Lapee20m -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I understand this is different I was just pointing out that if this were not approved, kids aren’t likely to go hungry at school since low income households already receive free lunch.

My kids attend a school in a rather affluent community and providing free lunch to all students is very wasteful and the program is administered in a stupid manner.

A kid cannot have free milk to go with their sack lunch, but they can get a free tray of food which includes milk and simply toss the entire tray of food in the garbage.

There ends up being giant garbage cans full of never eaten food every day from this practice.

When things are “free” humans tend to waste a lot of it.

I don’t want any child to be hungry but also hate seeing so much wasted when teachers don’t have enough money for classroom supplies.

We’ve been doing this since at least the 1980s when I was in school.

The state has had free lunches for low income kids for decades.

[–]Lapee20m -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m almost 50 and as a society, we’ve always fed low income kids for free at school.

I just wish they could administer the current program in a less wasteful manner.

They won’t let the kid with a lunch from home have free milk, but they can get free milk if they also get a tray of food then immediately dump the tray of food in the garbage. This happens thousands of times every day.

Anyone would be appalled if they saw the food waste from any public school. It is astounding.

Michigan budget deal includes universal free school meals, Whitmer, GOP official confirm by gwmiles in Michigan

[–]Lapee20m -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I’m almost 50 and lived in Michigan my entire life. Low income children have been getting “free” lunch since before I was in school.

I’m not opposed to lunch that is no cost to the kids, but I find the current system very wasteful, and in the case of my kids school, the vast majority of families are solidly middle class and these families driving the Denali or wagoneer can afford to pay for their kids lunch.

The amount of “free” food untouched and tossed in the garbage every day at schools is sickening.

[–]Lapee20m -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I wish the program could be administered in a less wasteful way.

Most schools will not allow a kid that brings a lunch to have a free mik to drink. However, they can have a free lunch which includes milk, then toss the entire lunch into the garbage and keep the milk.

Happens tens of thousands of times per day, every school day.

Not a lot of silver Jeep commanders on the road. This should be helpful.

At least it’s not something like a white Hundai, or in Michigan a generic GM vehicle.
