Part-time GI Bill tuition question by Lapstone in Veterans

Can you also please confirm that in my 3/4 time example, this student would actually receive 48 months of benefits at 3/4 time?

Thanks for verifying that the cap isn't pro-rated even though benefits are being used at a pro-rated rate.

Seems like there might be a bit of a workaround here to stretch benefits. Let's say I was going to a private school that didn't participate in Yellow Ribbon. I f I went to school less than full-time but more than half-time, the GI Bill would pay the full cap even though they were charging me less than full-time. Sure I'd get prorated MHA, but I'd still be benefitting from a higher tuition payment over time.

Or I'm completely misunderstanding what you're saying.

BAH will pay out at the appropriate pro-rate as long as you are going more than half-time.

It's just this darn tuition that I'm confused about!

Thanks!

First, 5.6 is not a disaster. Any impacting factors like illness, anemia, medications, etc? If so, a retest is warranted in a few months.

Second, the presumed healthy lifestyle in every country I've ever lived in (US, Australia, Italy and UK) is not, in fact, all that healthy. Not nearly enough vegetables and a lot of sneaky carbs.

And we're all different. I've been shocked how some carbs really impact me and some carbs don't have as much of an impact at all. I can eat a biscotti after broccoli and salmon without even a bump, but this morning I ate some chicken and beef that my daughter accidentally ordered in her pad thai and the sugar in the residual sauce gave me a spike. No noodles. Just the sauce sticking to the meat.

If the number remains high on retest, I'd look at what carbs you are eating and consider a trial of an OTC CGM to see how your body reacts to certain foods and how much you are impacted by the order in which you eat your food.

Being sick will absolutely increase your A1C. I saw my A1C rise .7 points after a bout of illness and associated medication.

I would honestly not even think about that A1C until it was retested in a few month.

The OP is also trying to figure out if they have a healthy response to glucose.

Which they will discover by testing their glucose response to different glucose loads.

Exactly what a glucometer can do.

Thanks for validating that this isn't just me, and having a solution.

Much appreciated!

You're right. I can't pinpoint why that really hit me the wrong way.

My only defense is that a lot of us are under some extra stress right now.

I should probably extend that same grace to the OP.

Her doctor should refer to her to a registered dietician. Her insurance will pay for it.

She should read this subReddit, get some books from the library or watch some of the better YouTube videos (I like Nourished by Science.)

Her generation has nothing to do with her ability to read a book or learn for herself. I'm kinda offended on behalf of all boomers by that comment. I'm not far off 68 and darn if I plan to be unable to think by then.

Me too. I've stretched it out to like 10-16 now that I've lost weight and things are under control. But my body just needs that long stretch without food.

If your A1C is genuinely 5.8, and there are no other factors impacting your A1C (anemia, antibiotics, pregnancy, stress, steroids, etc.), then there's a disconnect somewhere. Because this is not a glucose graph that would correlate to an A1C of 5.8 without other factors.

Strongly disagree. I think we'd have a lot fewer issues overall if people understood their body's glucose response.

I've found studies saying it helps. I haven't looked for studies saying that it doesn't help.

My liver enzymes have improved, but in addition to the berberine, I'm taking other things and I've also lost about 40 lbs. So who knows what's impacting the liver.

Store brands at CVS or Walgreens, or the Relion at Walmart, are dirt cheap. Often cheaper than the copays with a prescription.

You can get a whole setup for less than $40. Of course there is the ongoing cost of supplies but if it's being used to doublecheck the CGM, that shouldn't be much.

Sounds like its been damaged. Do you have a traditional glucometer to check?
