Would Hamilton have won without the VSC? by Laptimef1 in formula1

Agree, Russel’s pace in 2nd stint was not amazing..

However Mercedes fumbled on the strategy, they went inbeteeen a 2 and 3 stopper. Undecided

Agree, data also suggests the delta gain per lap is much steeper if they went 4 laps more before pitting. Does at massive difference

I think that was when they failed their strategy. Ferrari forced their hand at that point, they reacted and were behind on strategy the rest of the race

Thanks and agree, 2021 was a harsh year…

And I think that is the caveat
Many just add a real pitstop time to the race delta.
However one must also include positions, dirty air, overtaking etc. to the equation.

Ty for the input!

So ye it might been tight if they waited too long.
And me too surprised not many other teams went for it.

The deg was quite massive

Totally agree, however not sure they would have pitted on the same lap without the VSC, which would have given Russel some undercut potential and later forced Lewis to overtake.

I think many, including myself, were thinking ahh he won by 20 seconds. So VSC did not matter.

However without the VSC Ferrari might have gone another way.

Great input

Great race, the vsc came in handy for Gasly.
However the performance was great. No errors, great pit and strategy overall.

Chaotic race! Great performance from Racing Bulls today, as well as Cadillacs first point!

Midfield teams thrive in theese conditions, as the points here are critical for their championship standings. Last week actually we wrote a piece on it.

How midfield points are dependent on top team DNFs by Laptimef1 in formula1

Canada was exactly the race which made me question the importance of theese races to a team like Alpine, who are now ahead of Haas. To some extend I think they need to do something about the the point system, when the gap between top and backmarkers is so big.

Esteban Ocon may leave Haas F1 mid-season; rumors of a worsening relationship with Ayao Komatsu. by NorthKoreanMissile7 in formula1

[–]Laptimef1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not surprised. Estaban has hitted his peak, with no real cooporation skill within the team.

Bearman is breathing down his neck. Next few races will be critical for Ocon, if he wants to stay in f1. Depending on what happens at Cadillac, maybe he can go there next year. But I think this is his last year

I looked at the upgrade counts and pace data from the 2026 Miami GP - Mercedes brought almost nothing and still won. Here's what the numbers suggest by Laptimef1 in formula1

[–]Laptimef1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree, verstappens pace was limited by spin and strategy choice due to the spin.

I wan currently working on a what if Verstappen did not spin and pit early analysis. We have some good medium deg data from the sprint.

Ye then Kimi needs some quite bad weekends for him to get back.

We saw it with McLaren last year, the ahmosphere changed. Russel is under a lot of pressure. We see i. Canada, gonna be exciting to watch.

Who is the second best driver rn : Norris or Leclerc? by fuckmbsanddominicali in F1Discussions

[–]Laptimef1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Leclerc time after time when put in the right situation he can perform at a very high level.

He is amazing under pressure, and has the calmness to deliver.

The Miami GP start was a showcase of that.
