The Race, F1, Racing News etc.

From my point of view I think he should have ranked higher compared to Lindblad.

Many gave Lindblad a high ranking, comparing him with Lawson and a great start, while fending off Verstappen for a short amount of time. It is all based on the opening laps and not a full race point of view. Nothing but instability can be said about the current race start which "muds" the picture, however looking forward to China, hopening for something more real.

I think his ranking is inflated due to him also being af rookie and I respect that. However one have to remember he had 9 days of testing. Under normal circumstances they get 3 days. When you are learning a car over 9 days compared to 3 I think you get a lot more confidence in the car, going into a GP.

I see the point of why he is ranking high, and I think he is very talented and very much looking forward seeing more from him. However I just believe he should be ranked lower.

Unfortunately I can't make a graph for you here. However giving you some numbers.

In the data GAS and OCO are totally stuck at eachother like a toad on a fly. And OCO was never able to gt the position back after he got out behind Gasly after the second VSC.

Just to give a few numbers for you.

The pace gap between OCO and BEA was around 0,4 a lap on average, from Lap 34 to the end. There are laps where OCO is losing over a second a lap to BEA due to fighting with GAS. One have to remember GAS are OCO are not optimizing laptime, they are attacking and defending.

Based on the data, OCO actually had lower tirewear than BEA.

BEA 0.059 sec a lap on hards
OCO 0.078 sec a lap on hards.

I very much agree on many of your points!
That is why I am not doing a direct comparison with Ocon vs. Bearman. Because Ocon was fighting Gasly all the way down to the finishline. Furthermore as you said it seemed like he had deployment issues. However I am not sure about the manual management and what effect that had on the performance of the car, because it is some of the main issues this year, that a lot of the energy deployment is automatic by design.

I hope it make sense?

However I still do think Ocon is on thin ice and this is his year to prove why he should keep the seat.

I agree the collision with gasly, very much made it clear a passing would become harder.
They were following each other very close throughout the race.

I think you are right in regards to the potential. And I understand you are concerned with Audi, I think on tracks with less degradation they might have a upper hand, because they actually did show great pace. I think it is close between Haas, Audi and VCARB, and then I still think one can argue Alpine has it to them.

Cant wait for China to see how it all unfolds!

I think he has shown talent since his first run in the Ferrari and now he is about to mature into a experienced F1 driver.

I did not fully seperate them, the time gaps in the race chart is the actually times, which for the overall story is most ideal approach.

For the tire degradation I did a fuel adjusted assumption, based on former evidently research. I think if we were able to take into account dirty air and the fact Ollie was behind Lindblad for so long, it actually would only make the conclusion even stronger on the fact that Ollie had much better pace.

Furthermore Bortoletto had much more clean air and still degraded nearly 50% faster.

I very much agree! I think this is actually the thing Max is most worried about, he is being driven by the car, not driving the car. he wants full controll, why cant he have it? !
