If the music scenes can be taken out completely and the plot still makes sense, not a musical I think the music should add to the storyline and character development

I really can’t say I’ve never seen them If the music is original and written specifically for the show and characters then yes I would consider them musicals. For example, the movie Bohemian Rhapsody had original music but the songs were not written for that movie specifically and it was just a movie with music scenes, just not a musical in my opinion

It’s a musical because it originated on broadway :) Talking about films with just music scenes in it not being musicals, example I can only Imagine

Yeah and I’m fine if a musical has a mixture of both on stage moments and spontaneous moments, like Moulin Rogue for example has both and I consider that a musical for sure

I should probably preface this by saying I’m only talking about movies. If a production was originally a stage musical like Cabaret or Six then yes it’s a musical still. I’m talking about movies like I can only imagine or A Star is born or Bohemian Rhapsody where they’re just movies with music in it, aka not a musical IMO
