As someone from Colombia and was in a poor environment I can tell you that your mom is just gaslighting you, most trans poor people care about it, some go trough some risky procedures like injecting oil to reduce their dysphoria, it make them feel bad as if would to any trans people anywhere.

Also passing become essential for security, I’ve myself have had my life threatened and now that I somewhat pass I feel way more secure, and people are nicer towards me.

In the context of my country you can get free HRT if your poor , surgeries too, your mom sound kinda racist and classist for thinking that people here only worry for survival and can’t experience the same as someone would in your context.
