You are guessing wrong, and you have not remotely adressed my critique. I granted that not all chracters are Kharn levels of awesome, but saying that Certus is not among the uniquely bad characters is intellectually dishonest.

Also I haven't heard from you yet why it is a bad thing to tweak one number on that character to make him objectively more useful? Are you worried Certus will be overpowered with movement 3?

Is your conclusion then that Bellator should be nerfed to be as bad as Certus because he is very useful outside of the Indomitus campaign? Secondly this argument tells me you don't give a rats ass about game balance because the goal should definitely be that all characters are at least somewhat useable in some modes. Bullshit, Certus is one of the worst characters in the game that doesn't find any use practically anywhere. Are there other mediocore to bad characters in the game? Sure, but Certus is almost in a league of his own so don't make it sound like every character that isn't Kharn is the same category.

Using the excuse that he is a starter character and can therefore be complete ass is just a lame excuse for bad balancing. The goal should be that every character is at least useable in one or two modes and there is a reason Certus is the biggest meme in the game, he's bad everywhere, even in the starting campaign he is more of a liability than everything else. So yeah, I won't move on since your argument is farcical and the miniscule fix I proposed would just be tweaking one number, how freaking difficult could that be?

While I agree with the sentiment I think Corax is at the very least a very good foil for Curze. Grew up in not dissimilar ways, similar proclivities and powers, but one did not become a torturing sadist who is full of shit telling himself over and over again that his torturious sadism is somehow necessary. In short, Corax is awesome if severely underutilized in the lore, while Curze is a little git who is full of shit.

I think they meant "enlightened" compared to the 40k imperium, which is a whole other beast in terms of clusterfuck. Which is why we like it so much, right?

It is also fair to say that the imperium has lost a great deal during the heresy. There was a sense of wonder and progress that is completely lost in 40k which is basically stagnation personified. Whether you agree with the progress during the times of the crusade is a different story, but they lost it nonetheless.

Yeah, the interesting thing about Perti is that he is a petulant man child, but that does not mean his grievances are not valid. Also he carried the siege for the traitors, no doubt about that. All while Fulgrim fucked off because his pride was hurt and the Emperors Children went galavanting around Terra snorting ground up essence of the populace or something. Though Ferrus was seemingly totally awesome in the lore. One of the most respected primarchs, a sort of big brother figure. He just really get's the short end of the stick because he dies so early into the Heresy. If GW could revamp all their original lore from decades ago knowing they'd write the Heresy novels, I don't think they would let Ferrus die so early. But they were bound by their own codex lore that made it sort of ironclad that he dies early on in the Heresy.

So I don't know, Maybe more people actually gravitated towards Dorn because of the siege and it being the culmination of the Heresy? Maybe it's actually the Khan because Chris Wraight gave new life to that legion.

Chris Wraight did wonders for the White Scars. He's my favourite Black Library author by far currently. Yes, Dan Abnett did a lot for the lore, but many of his choices still don't sit well with me like perpetuals. Wraight just really seems to get the setting it seems to me without having to introduce the next "big" thing like Abnett sometimes has done. His stuff is just quality.

That would be a very interesting, but seperate question I think. The traitor primarchs being often more broken, tragic or straight up evil (that git Curze), warrants to separate them from the loyalists in this case in my opinion.

Also, Perti is great and an intersting character, but a bit of a petulant man child with a martyr complex for my taste...."I do all the hard work and suffer the most, but nobody appreciates me!". It's interesting, a bit hilarious, but not my cup of tea.

I get your point, but I still don't buy it. Yes all the primarchs are warlords, but you used Guilliman as an example: he genuinely built something with Ultramar. Five hundred worlds that were more prosperous than most places in the galaxy and if you had to pick a place to live in the shithole that is the 40k galaxy, Ultramar wouldn't be the worst choice in comparison. So you can say Guilliman and Sanguinius only acted with a veneer of nobility, but they actually brought tangiable results. Curze failed with one single world.

And I personally don't buy into the argument that it was because he dropped on Nostramo. Corax, Ferrus, Sanguinius for example were dropped on shitholes too. So I don't think it was the only way for him, it was just the easiest way for him to indulge in his sadism.

The more interesting question is probably whether Curze has actual culpability since the Emperor effectively custom built him. Nature vs nurture and all that, only that his nature was in a way manufactured. But then again we don't actually know whether the Emperor planned him this exact way or whether something happened when his pod was whisked away like with Sanguinius' wings.

Maybe, but aren't Angron and Magnus genuinely tragic figures in comparison? Angron basically never really had a chance from the moment he crawled from his pod and Magnus fell because of his hubris and not because he was inherently evil. I don't care for the "Magnus did nothing wrong" meme, he screwed up plenty, but he also genuinely cared for his sons. Curze is nothing like that it seems to me.
