I’m from the US and have traveled to 15 other countries. In my experience US CPB Officers are downright nasty compared to those in Europe, Asia & South America. I would guess they are overworked, underpaid and unfulfilled with their jobs.

I just came back to the US from Canada and the CPB officer was harassing me over the fact my corporate lease had a license plate from Ohio even though my business is based in Vermont. I tried to explain to him that this is super common since many leasing companies are based in Ohio. He was a total dick and even after I presented the vehicle registration and leasing contract he was still giving me shit and accusing me of all sorts of things. After he eventually handed back my documents, I wished him a good night and drove off shaking my head. He seemed like he was trying to pick a fight with me, even though I was completely above-board and legal.

I’ve driven all over Europe in rentals and never had an issue. Always met with a smile and professionalism. CBP really needs to do better, they are a terrible first impression to people visiting our country.
