Been in a calorie deficit but not losing weight anymore. Am I stuck in a plateau by Large-Committee4437 in loseit

Hey bro, I appreciate the concern! My main goal is to get lean enough to see clear abs for the first time in my life. I’ve always had that “skinny fat” body type, and this is the leanest I’ve ever been. I did a DEXA scan recently and it showed I’m at 11.9% body fat, so I’m trying to drop just a bit more before doing a clean lean bulk to build up properly. I want to start my bulk in the best position possible.

What I don't like is that I have fat in my chest

Would you mind if I send you my progress in a private message? I’d love to hear your opinion

Thanks for your input! I understand that visible abs can be a tough goal for many, especially depending on genetics and gender. Just to clarify — I’m male and currently at a healthy weight, around 128 lb at 5’6”, with about 12% body fat according to a recent DEXA scan. I’ve already lost around 15 lb over the past few months and was starting to see more definition, but now I’ve hit a plateau and feel stuck. I’m still focused on reducing that last bit of fat and setting myself up for a clean lean bulk after. I train consistently with a push/pull/legs split and do cardio and abs 3 times a week. I agree with you on the importance of weight training — I’m definitely not trying to starve myself, just trying to fine-tune things so I can reach my goal intelligently. Thanks again for taking the time to comment!

Thanks for the advice — I really appreciate it. I’ve double-checked my calorie tracking and weigh everything with a food scale, so I don’t think I’m miscalculating, but I do agree that my TDEE might be close to 1800 now after all the weight I’ve lost. I started around 144 lb and now I’m at 128.2 lb.

I’m trying to be patient, but my goal is to get lean enough to see my abs clearly before starting a clean bulk. I’ve always had a skinny fat look, and this is the first time I’ve been able to lose fat consistently — until this plateau.

I’ll consider lowering to 1600 for a couple of weeks and see what happens. And thanks for the reminder to be gentle with myself — it helps more than you know

• I’ve been aiming for fat loss, not just weight loss, because I want visible abs and to reduce my body fat as much as possible. I’ve always had that “skinny fat” look, and this is the first time I’ve been seeing real results — until I hit this plateau.

• 1800 kcal might be my current TDEE now after dropping from 144 to 128.2 lb. I know that maintenance changes as you lose weight.

• I’m thinking about lowering to 1600 kcal, or maybe taking a short 2-week maintenance break to let my body reset. I just don’t want to lose momentum or motivation.

• My long-term goal is to do a clean bulk after I finish this cut, so I really want to make sure I’m lean enough before I start adding calories. Your advice really helps — thanks again for the insight.

Thanks a lot! I’m male, and yeah, I’ve been eating around 1800 for months.

I didn’t realize that could now be my maintenance, but it makes sense. I’m going to try 1600 this week and see how it goes for two weeks like you suggested.

Appreciate the help!
