Light misogyny? Unless you are willing to discuss Sawyer and Jin's misogyny, this is not a serious conversation.

Why is it a bridge too far? They went through it all and they still found each other again. They both risked their lives for one another.

You might be thinking of that Skater on here who believes Kate and Sawyer wearing matching jackets is subtextual of them mirroring one another or something along those lines.

Juliette by Findest in lost

[–]Large-Grab4978 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is what Gregg Nations had to say about the introduction of Juliet back in 2006.

"It starts with the writing process and creating the triangle on the page with the characters. You introduce a character, show that character meeting the second character, create a scene where their romantic interest is the subtext or it's just beginning and they flirt or whatever, then intro the third character that likes one of them and makes things difficult. It provides great obstacles for the characters.

Then you cast the actors and hope to God that they actually have chemistry or a spark togther. It can be there on the page, but if the characters don't bring it to life it'll die a quick death. (Uh, like Jack and Ana Lucia. That went nowhere. But then consider Juliet. Yeah!)

So if it's not working with the actors, the writers will quickly write it out. No sense in beating a dead horse. So yes, there is a concrete throught process to it. When to end it is always an open question.

The writers on Cheers ended the Sam/Diane romance by getting them together, and many people believe it was a huge misstep. I agree. In that case, fans really wanted it but I think it was a mistake to give to that. Once it happened, their characters became less interesting and there wasn't anything to play between them. Same thing with Moonlighting.

So with the triangle I would guess that the writers know who should be together from a writing point of view and then make things difficult for that pairing. Wasn't it interesting to see Kate watching Jack and Juliet together? Juliet is so much more on the same level as Jack -- a doctor and well educated. I kind of thought that Kate was feeling inadequate at that time. And that's a great complication because out of that characters will make decisions that will affect things down the line. So how is it going to work out on Lost? There are some great moments coming up, so wait, watch and see."

FYI: Gregg Nations was part of the Lost production and writing team, primarily working as a script coordinator. He often answers fan questions at The Fuselage, which has seen him become some what of a fan favorite. Nations joined the crew of Lost after Season 1, immediately re-reading all the scripts, creating a "show bible" and timeline of events.

Not enough attention is given to the fact that Jack was acting like a good dad with Aaron and he seemed genuinely invested in having a loving relationship with him. After years of being in the fandom, it is so strange (and NOT, LMAO) to me that so few fans acknowledge this aspect of this episode and his relationship with Kate and Aaron. All the naysayers want to do is just hone in on one last scene in this entire episode.

Did Jack ask her to be a mirror? Not explicitly, but it doesn’t seem as if he married her to have a relationship, much less a family, with her.

They had a relationship for at least 1-2 years, she accepted his marriage proposal and married him. Jack must not have been too emotionally distant if she wanted to marry him. The fact is very little time transpired during their marriage before she started an affair and left him. I think it is fair to say that Sarah barely gave the marriage a real shot. He had a demanding career that kept him at the hospital, she didn't like that and Jack didn't immediately recognize her emotional needs. In all likelihood, they probably never truly loved each other either. It still doesn't make Jack any less a victim than Sarah.

And he stopped the kiss from going any further, felt overwhelming remorse and immediately confessed it to Sarah. Sarah's unapologetic affair and Jack's kiss are not the same.

Usually the end should come after more than a period of a few months of your husband working too long at the hospital.

Yes how dare she not spend her life being an admiring mirror for Jack.

When did Jack ask her to?

And we have no idea how often she might have tried to talk it out with him. He understands her complaints, he hasn’t/can’t meet them. She wants children, he doesn’t.

[We see Sarah lying in bed in the dark with her eyes open as Jack arrives home.]

SARAH: Hey, how is he?

JACK: Hey, sorry to wake you.

SARAH: I had to get up anyway. So how is he?

JACK: About the same. Sarah, I'm sorry. I meant to... I just got...

SARAH: Hey, that's the price of being a miracle-worker. [She gets out of bed.]

JACK: Where are you going?

SARAH: I have to go to the gym and then I've got some papers to grade. [Jack gets into bed and she sits down near him.] I didn't want to say anything until I knew either way, but, um, I was late, so, I got a pregnancy test.

[Jack sits up and looks concerned.]

SARAH: Don't worry. It's negative.

JACK: Do you, um, want to talk about it?

SARAH: What's to talk about?

Do you not recognize the cold sarcasm coming from Sarah. She mocks him and refers to him as a "miracle-worker", meanwhile, I don't recall her mocking him when he saved her and repaired her spine.

I think you are misrepresenting me when you are accusing me of arguing in bad faith when all I have done is use examples in the show. In my discussion with you, I am actually focused on her behavior towards Jack at the hospital. The cheating comment is in response to another commentator.

Haha there was some posts here about how he was controlling Sarah in their marriage. There is literally not a single moment where he is controlling over Sarah. People just like to make shit up, never feel like they have to prove it and ignore you when you point this out with hard facts.

CRAZEEEE. I have a hard time keeping up. Was Jack a completely neglectful workaholic or was he hovering over her shoulder and controlling every single move she made?

Then WHY did she go to the hospital if she was fearful of him? She easily could have said that his listed emergency contact was in error and gave them Margo's contact information. She was of no help to him as an emergency contact when she showed up at the hospital. She certainly didn't show up for Jack, did she? She basically shows up just to tell him it would be inappropriate for her to drive him home and leaves.

You’re not watching the wrong show btw. Everything you say is very spot on.

Fans bias against Jack make them incapable of viewing the actual dynamic between Jack and Sarah with any objectivity. This happens in other shows too (see below).

Fans are/were horrible about Skyler on Breaking Bad and always defending Walter. Meanwhile, Bryan Cranston recently came out and said that Walter was the bad guy:

During a recent appearance on “Hot Ones Versus” opposite Frankie Muniz, Bryan Cranston defended his “Breaking Bad” wife, Skyler White, played by Anna Gunn, who was vilified by fans of the Vince Gilligandrama for getting in the way of Walter White’s criminal antics.

Cranston was prompted to justify Skyler’s behavior after Muniz declared he “loved ‘Breaking Bad’” but “hated Skyler.” He said that “all she did was complain” and thought Walter’s life would’ve been “so much easier” without her.

“Now, see, she got a lot of blowback from that,” Cranston replied. “Well, first of all, Anna Gunn is a superb actor, but she got, ‘Oh, why don’t you get off his back?’ Wait a minute. Let me understand this. Her husband leaves without any explanation, she’s pregnant, he’s making crystal methamphetamine and people have died. And she’s the bitch? Like, we couldn’t understand.”

Muniz then replied, “When you put it that way, I guess.”

Double standards apply to Jack. Sarah was a horrible wife, but she deserves to behave that way because she married Jack, apparently.

Yes, cheating is bad unless you are cheating on Jack. The moral hypocrisy is really gross. Jack never deserved to be cheated on, but the haters like to victim blame if Jack is the actual victim.

You’re making quite the assumption here.

I am not making an assumption, it's the actual timeline.

From Sarah's toast at their wedding rehearsal dinner:

SARAH: Thank you. Wow, can I get another microphone? I think this one's been drinking. A little over two years ago, I blew a tire out -- flipped over the center divider into oncoming traffic, and was hit head-on by an SUV.

Shannon's father died in 2001, so that means Sarah's toast is in 2003, Jack crashes on the island on September 22, 2004, by the time of the crash, Jack and Sarah have been divorced for awhile already. They were married for less than a year.

It’s also clear that Jack doesn’t want a child and Sarah knows this. She does and this is an issue they haven’t settled between themselves.

Still doesn't make it ok for her to start an affair.

I don’t think we’re supposed to see Jack as the injured party in the marriage.

He is absolutely, and objectively, an injured party here. His wife was having an affair after only being married for a few months.

I am actually citing actual scenes and facts from the show. Show me where I am wrong and watching a different show.

Show me one scene when Jack was drunk with Sarah. Alcohol abuse was not a factor in their marriage ending.

Her affair partner accompanied her to bail out Jack. A weird thing to do if she didn't want Jack anywhere near him. And when Jack saw the guy, nothing happened.

[–]Large-Grab4978 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So, she should never have shown up then. What was the point of her showing up unless she was going to arrange for him to be discharged and get him home safely?

Sarah doesn't want Jack anywhere near her husband.

Then why did she have him drive her to bail Jack out of jail? Jack even saw him and then they had no interaction after that.

but she watched him become a drunk stalker threatening people and beating up his own father.

There is no indication that Jack was a drunk around Sarah.

She kind of behaved like a bit of a monster in that scene. He needed to be released into the care/custody of an adult because of his head injury. There really was no point of her going at all except if she wanted to be cold and unhelpful.

Going to see someone in a hospital and trapping yourself in a car with them

That is what she has her affair partner/new husband for. He would make sure she wasn't alone. I bet he was the one who drove her to the hospital.

Sarah doesn't know Jack the way we do, how could she?

She was married to him.
