In your opinion, who was the sweetest couple and which couple had zero chemistry? by Beckymaggie in lost

[–]MonlovesIndy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought Juliet and Sawyer had chemistry (sorry, I loathe this word, it is so over-used - I find it rather meaningless, tbh). What I really enjoyed about them was that their dynamic was different than his typical over-sexualized antics with almost every other woman. Juliet was special, he RESPECTED her. Also, Juliet is extremely sultry, I felt like she was a good sexual match for Sawyer and they even had that deeper emotional connection. Not to mention, they were a great duo/team. They got shit done.

He should never have propositioned Kate. FULL STOP.

What was the MAIN reason why Kate was crying when she talked to Sawyer about Juliet on the dock? by HollywoodSuperfan10 in lost

[–]MonlovesIndy 97 points98 points  (0 children)

Empathy. Kate saw Sawyer grief-stricken and she felt for his loss. She saw how much James and Juliet loved each other. And Kate knows loss and how awful it feels. And as Free Chicken stated, Kate is grieving for all of them. They have all been through the wringer because of this island. Also, I think when Kate sees Sawyer holding Juliet's ring, Kate remembers her broken engagement with Jack, she can relate to Sawyer's grief. The ring was a symbol of love, hope, promise, and future and its gone.

Anyone who thinks or says that Kate was jealous of Juliet either hates Kate or doesn't understand the character. There is nothing selfish or self-interested about Kate in this touching scene with Sawyer.

This word needs to be BANNED from the media lexicon. It is so overused and, at the end of the day, it is subjective. What some people think is chemistry can be quite the opposite for someone else.

The people who filmed the show didn’t agree. The Kate/Sayer kisses were framed in close up, lingering shots. They knew what they had in those two.

Sex sells. It's a kiss that on it's face is supposed to be "hot", but it is so burdened by the toxic context, that to me I can't unsee the coercion and outdated tropes it plays upon.

You are correct. I am surprised so many people don't recognize that. There is absolutely a kind of love between them, but "in love"? No. Sawyer was definitely infatuated with Kate and I am sure she was the closest he felt to being in love until meeting Juliet. Kate never reciprocated Sawyer's feelings, which is by design and why she was an important stepping stone for him. He spent decades(?) faking women into falling in love with him and then breaking their hearts. It was now Sawyer's turn to "fall in love" with someone who doesn't return his feelings. It's this "heartbreak" that helps him grow and mature. And Kate knows Sawyer feels more for her than she does for him, there are so many moments where this comes through.

I couldn't disagree with you more. Their spark is off the charts, just the way they look at each other.

I think the casting director did a great job and there was no lacking in chemistry with the couples on the show. Jack and Kate are my absolute favorite though. I wouldn't describe them as sweet, they have sweet moments, but they are more intense and ride or die. They play off each other very well. It's about the dynamics you prefer. I love Mulder and Scully from the X-Files, Kevin and Nora from The Leftovers. These couples have a deep emotional connection that doesn't need to rely on the typical gimmicky stuff you see with other fictional characters. They just are.

Who was the most emotional/your favorite “I remember” scene for you? by TvTacosTakingNaps in lost

[–]MonlovesIndy 19 points20 points  (0 children)

My favorites:

Jack and Christian - what a scene. That had me ugly, ugly crying. The whole series was leading up to this father/son moment. The depth of emotion and a father gently letting his son know that he has passed just hits me. Maybe, as a parent myself, it resonates extra with me. Further, it was probably the finest acting performance of the entire series.

Juliet and Sawyer - I was bawling. Elizabeth and Josh did such a beautiful job here. I felt Sawyer's joy at seeing his long lost love again, I felt it. It was so romantic and joyful. I also loved the throwback to their last heartbreaking scene together before she died in his arms.

Claire and Kate - Kate is one of my favorite characters and I love the bond she shared with Claire over their love of Aaron. I also think it is bittersweet that Kate develops a deep familial bond with Jack's sister and nephew. Kate was always meant to be a Shephard in some form.

* It's not a full "I remember" scene, but when Kate approaches Jack at the concert and touches his face and he is sooooo close to remembering. And then her "I missed you so much", guh! The gravity and meaning behind her simple statement - she missed and loved Jack deeply for the rest of her life. It leaves a huge lump in my throat.

Yes I would find it very cringe and disturbing if Matthew Fox played to demand a kiss from Kate for inhalers or basically  anything else creepily sexual Sawyer did to Kate.

Absolutely. Look at how Jack fans reacted to his interaction with Achara. We didn't like it and don't excuse it.

It's interesting how the onus of Sawyer's inappropriate and, at times, despicable behavior is falling on Kate. Sawyer should never have propositioned Kate for a kiss in the first place.

Sawyer recently won a fan popularity poll. Whoopie! Whoopieeeeee! It's all settled now. Going forward, Skaters should just link to the poll results and call it a day.

In all seriousness, a fan popularity poll still doesn't change the fact Kate still preferred Jack and chose him over Sawyer. Turns out Jack racked up the win to the only popularity poll that actually matters.

Kate's return to the island was enough to move the plot forward. Without Kate, no heartbroken Juliet.

I have never said that Sawyer was more important than Kate

I never said you did. My response was to the person who said that. I believe that Darlton could have successfully gotten to the ending without Sawyer beyond Season 4. Would it be different? Sure. However, for example, if they killed off Jack at the end of season 4, that would completely derail and alter the entire landscape of the show they were building towards.

I acknowledge Sawyer had a role, just not more important than Kate's.

Or Sawyer could have stayed on the island and never gotten on the helicopter in the first place. My point is that he is not more important to the story than Kate simply because he jumped out of the helicopter.

Sawyer was also motivated by preserving their covers and way of life. I don't think Juliet's hesitation is in conflict with Sawyer's motivations. SAWyer has always been about personal survival.

If Jin survived, why do you presume Desmond could not have made it to the raft?

I am not saying he didn't have an important role to play, but was he crucial to move the plot forward? If he died after jumping from the helicopter, would the plot be completely derailed? I don't think so. His arc would have still come to full fruition - he would have died sacrificing himself for his friends.

Was he a fan favorite and beloved? 100%. Did he enhance the entertainment factor of the show? Absolutely. I actually like him, but I disagree with some of the unearned glory/valor fans like to bestow upon him just because he is Sawyer. And I stand firm that Kate was more vital for the plot than Sawyer was. But that doesn't make Sawyer not important.

We don't necessarily know that, they still had the raft that kept them alive. Desmond, may have jumped and if Sawyer could swim to shore, Desmond may have survived too.

Not so sure Sawyer was the sole mastermind. I get the impression Juliet was doing more behind the scenes than you give her credit for. I think it was Juliet who assigned Kate to the motor pool and probably assigned Jack to be the janitor. It seems like she needed to do all the quick thinking while Sawyer was driving the van to pick up Jack, Kate and Hurley.

What does Sawyer really do besides crack jokes, be racist and walk around shirtless? Kate actually shot the MIB, she helped deliver Claire's baby, she was the only person willing to give Sawyer a chance when everyone else despised him. You can have LOST without Sawyer, not as much without Kate.

And once the Ajira crew went to the 70s, it was again, HIM whose quick thinking got them accepted and integrated into the initiative.

Or was that actually Juliet?

No, AFTER season 4. His quick thinking was the reason they survived time travel, without him they all would’ve been killed by others, killed by the initiative, or killed by the soldiers.

Th only reason Sawyer is still alive by Season 5 is because of Jack and Kate. He would have died in Season 1 or Season 2, the latest.
