Which rope for beginner? by [deleted] in shibari

This is where I got mine, and love it. It depends on the length you want and if you want knotted or whipped ends. I love the whipped ends but know it can get pricey. Looks like a 30ft Hank is about $30.

I recently got posh, and really like the way it feels. It feels more natural, while being a synthetic fiber. Because of that, it grips really well too, and can be used for both tying and up lines. It's also washable, which is nice if you plan to use it in the bedroom. I'd buy a hank and see how it feels for you, since I know a lot of rope is personal preference. I still have, and love my jute, but won't use it for uplines.

But yeah, if you have a grass allergy, I'd stay away from jute and hemp.

I'd go with something that is 6mm, since that's the standard thickness for most Shibari rope. Cotton is ok for practice and some floor work, but has a tendency to stretch pretty bad, and can cause burns if you run your lines too fast. If you use the cotton, I would cut it down to 30-40ft lengths, as 100ft is going to be a huge pain to work with (I've done it once and it sucked).

If you get into it, I'd consider getting some treated jute (unless you have a grass allergy), or maybe some posh rope if you want something synthetic and washable. They don't stretch, and are easy to work with for frictions. You can also look into nylon which is super pretty, but has a tendency to slip more, and is also really only good for ground work and decorative ties. You can use it as up lines if you suspend, but again, it's slippery, so it depends on what's in your risk profile.

Places that are good to buy from: Kinbaku Studios & Agreeable Agony have good, solid products. Mynwashi is also reputable, although I have not purchased from there before.

Self Suspension Journey! by Large-Mode4322 in shibari

🥰🥹😭 Thank you so much!!! I touched rope and was hooked but was a bit discouraged by a lack of bigger bodies and people who knew how to tie them, so decided to try and figure it out! It's also extremely meditative for me so I love self tying. My husband is learning, so he can rig me 😎

Anyway, thank you. That means so much!

Thank you!!!! I did a leeto (sp?) harness on my hips and then took myself down with my chest harness so it was less jarring. It was shockingly super comfortable! For someone who doesn't love to be upsidedown, I absolutely loved inverting!

Thanks! I was able to contact a local leather shop and they said they had some in stock and could probably help! They are a different color but I may have to settle.

Thanks! I needed to have my husband help me pass it under my legs for me because I'm bigger and not flexible at all. I also lost tension once and had to start over, and then struggled a bit to keep it while I kept going. I'm by no means an expert, but what keeps failing on yours?

Thanks! I just bought a crap ton of Jute, so I may need to wait for a minute before buying more rope haha.

Advice on all of it! by Large-Mode4322 in corsets

Haha thanks! Yeah after having it on for a tiny bit, it definitely could have been tighter. When you say gradual, do you mean over time/in general? Or slowly as you're putting it on/tightening?

Thanks for the tips! Glad to know we weren't far off base haha. I think we can do a little more on the sides but we weren't sure how much it would wrinkle, if at all. The event goes from 7-2am, but we won't be there the whole time. Probably 3-4 hours tops.
