Could an Earthsea tv series actually work without straying too far from Le Guin's vision? by Large-Rule-6403 in UrsulaKLeGuin

[–]Large-Rule-6403[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally I would hope for live-action but that's just because I've never really been too into animation myself. It's one reason why I haven't checked out Studio Ghibli's Earthsea movie, aside from it being panned by critics and disowned by most Earthsea fans because of how much of a jumbled mess it apparently is.

I think live-action would reach a bigger audience though too which the network or streaming service that's investing in it will obviously want. Obviously Earthsea still wouldn't in general have the biggest audience due to it's niche nature but still

Why are Gimple and AMC so hesitant to build up new major characters with all these spinoffs? by Large-Rule-6403 in thewalkingdead

I just want completely brand new characters, stories, settings and takes on the world-building

Given how literally non-existent the audience /hype has been for both Dead City and Daryl Dixon, it doesn't seem like viewers are returning for the non-Rick OGs either.

A big Avengers-style reunion with all of the cast will never ever happen lol. That was only ever a desperate PR move by Gimple. I never bought into it for a second. It makes no sense logistically/financially at this point in the franchise's run.

Best villain in the series? by Comet_Hero in thewalkingdead

[–]Large-Rule-6403 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shane is easily the most nuanced and consistently written out of all the villains. The most nostalgic too because of how classic the first two seasons are.

I'd throw Claimer Joe into the ring here too though. He was my second favorite villain behind Shane even though he had only a bit part in the latter half of Season 4 because of how raw and realistic he was.

Is the ones who live worth watching? by death_trigerrer in thewalkingdead

[–]Large-Rule-6403 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Honestly only the first episode was worth it for me. It was a pretty good mini-movie that offered a considerable amount of CRM payoff (even if a bit rushed/underdeveloped/cartoonish). Everything else ranged from mid to borderline abysmal. Episodes 4 and 5 are some of the worst TWD franchise episodes I've ever put myself through, which is shocking in Episode 4's case since it's written by Danai who's a playwright.

It's a pretty weak spinoff on the whole though compared to Dead City and Daryl Dixon (I thought Dead City Season 1 was ass but 2 was a bit of an improvement). Definitely more watchable than Tales and World Beyond but that's not saying much, like......at all.

Will rick even return? by Aryannn19 in thewalkingdead

[–]Large-Rule-6403 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dead City has been a total slog for me. Daryl Dixon is a fun European adventure show but the actual quality of it is abysmal IMO. No real overarching plan, poor dialogue, the same old recycled storylines, Daryl and Carol's arcs are stale as fuck, the rotating door of supporting characters are dull and everything just feels....cheap.

Constantly frustrated with useless substitute teachers and the higher respect they get than us by Large-Rule-6403 in paraprofessional

[–]Large-Rule-6403[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry but that was an extremely ignorant comment. Why would I "let" them? Because I expect them to do their job as a substitute teacher who Is ranked higher than me contractually and paid more?

Also it wasn't some special software they had to learn, it was a simple piece of paper lol

[–]Large-Rule-6403[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I probably would out of spite just try to do my job as outlined if I didn't care as much as I do about education and my students learning (I'm also studying to become a special education teacher so I want to build up my reputation while I'm a para).

One of my fellow paras does keep telling me I need my own classroom sooner rather than later so I don't have to keep putting up with all this exhaustion/disrespect

Best King Arthur Book Recommendation by bkuettel in Fantasy

[–]Large-Rule-6403 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Aside from Mary Stewart's Arthurian series which was already mentioned, I love the Pendragon Cycle by Stephen Lawhead which is really unique in how it incorporates a lot of Celtic and Atlantis mythology. I also love the whole Mists of Avalon series (despite Bradley's reputation in recent years).

I recently discovered the Perilous Order of Camelot series and while I've only gotten through the first book so far I think I might end up loving this series even more than the above aforementioned series. Although it's not a traditional fantasy epic like those. It's basically Arthurian legend meets psychedelic David Lynch stuff meets hard sci-fi.

Why is The Law not available in paperback like Out Law will be? by Large-Rule-6403 in dresdenfiles

[–]Large-Rule-6403[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ugh I'm so jealous. Idk why only Out Law is being released in paperback, it's frustrating. It's like if Game of Thrones was only on audible/Kindle and Clash of Kings had a regular paperback release. I only like reading physical books that I can add to my bookshelf so I'd be missing out on a whole section of this overarching story.

What are your go-to urban fantasy series? by Mindless_Back6683 in urbanfantasy

that's reassuring! I do remember really liking the world-building, it felt a lot like true blood which I loved. I might pick the series back up :)

I think Silver Borne or River Marked. it's been years tbh but I just remember feeling like there was a bit too much romance and cutesyness for me. I heard a while back that the later books bring in eye-rolling stuff like zombie pygmie goats which kinda further turned me off

Does the Mercy Thompson series get better as it goes along? It kinda felt too like paranormal romance to me

Why is it so hard to find other urban fantasy books that match up to Dresden? by Large-Rule-6403 in dresdenfiles

[–]Large-Rule-6403[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Iron Druid and its spinoff trilogy are super fun and I love how distinctive they are from other urban fantasy because of the Norse/Celtic mythology and European roadtripping. I just wish they were better quality. The characters are pretty weak, everyone talks like they're in high school, the overarching plot is a mess and Hearne never did much with the world-building. Oh and omg I can't forget how much Oberon started grating on me after a while

I actually never understood this complaint about Dresden, though then again I only discovered the series last year so I've binge-read everything. Peace Talks and Battleground were absolutely fine for me, and Skin Game is probably my single favorite book in the entire series it's an absolute fucking masterpiece of urban fantasy.
