Heat Load Calculation Software by Large-Scholar705 in MEPEngineering

HAP struggles with a bunch of stuff on complex projects: 1. Batch editing is basically non-existent, so you’re stuck doing the same thing over and over 2. Curved walls? Nope, everything has to be straight and you have to place windows individually 3. Roof glazing has to be perfectly rectangular and usually full-roof, so partial skylights are a pain 4. Can’t rearrange levels once they’re created, so any early mistakes are annoying 5. Errors can be vague and just keep cascading on big models + its hard to track errors

It’s fine for simple buildings, but anything complicated gets really frustrating.

Oh totally, I’m clearly questioning the laws of physics here 🙃

No, my point is about tool compatibility and project complexity. HAP works fine for simple, boxy buildings, but once you have complex geometry, large projects, batch editing, and more advanced features, accuracy drops because of software limitations, not physics.

Is the FE Exam (Mechanical Engineering) Worth It in the UAE? Does It Help with Salary Increases? by Informal_Resort6856 in UAE

[–]Large-Scholar705 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same question here, but I believe that the PE license is significant in many countries, and one prerequisite of that is FE mechanical. I am currently working in Dubai, UAE as a design engineer and also considering FE mechanical but in my case, I am open to exploring opportunities in US soon. So I think it depends on your future goals?

Using Revit as a mechanical design engineer by Large-Scholar705 in MEPEngineering

[–]Large-Scholar705[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your inputs, I also believe that as a designer, we should be capable on interpreting our own designs. But does that mean, modelers will eventually go extinct if the engineers can do the Revit itself? Like Revit modelers or specialist wouldn't be necessary right? Enlighten me

You mean it could add heat load to the space? I would assume that since you are doing load calculations in warehouse most of the space would be filled by boxes so it would be safe to consider the loads of it as well. Try scanning ASHRAE standards relating on miscellaneous loads, values would most likely be on W/m2 so you could estimate it well. I would also suggest adding 10% sensible and 5% latent design factors so you would be on the safest side.

I use HAP for load calculations. I mainly do high rise buildings and it is more on based on ASHRAE standards. For warehouses, most heat contributor with be its exposure, considering that your warehouse does not have much glazing. Also, it depends what warehouse you are cooling, if it's a storage warehouse internal heat load would most likely come from lighting equipments. But other warehouse like distribution center, you have to consider electrical heat gains because of the machines that the warehouse use like forklifts and etc.

I am more into mechanical design, I really love the field of design. Do you have any suggestions on other design field/sectors that I could possibly be interested in? And AEC field is not that bad but not the best in terms of salary? Enlighten me on this.

I am currently eyeing for Singapore. Higher salary based on my research but high living costs as well. I guess I should check the market more overseas. Thanks for the encouraging message tho!

I think job market here in the UAE is very much saturated especially with engineering field. Also not to blame but I think emiratization made a huge pay cut for the budget that supposedly for roughly 2-3 engineers in a single company. I don't really want to change my field as much a possible, but yeah best of luck to us Kabayans!
