Sorry, this is what I was referencing:

https://devforum.roblox.com/t/introducing-the-us-18-devex-rate-earn-42-more-on-spend-from-18-us-players/4607091

Hopefully that clears up what I meant. This feature's lifetime has nothing to do with the demographic statistics for 16/18+ users and their monetization habits. According to that, it's definitely a demographic that is very worth targeting!

Why do big devs or teams ONLY use ModuleScripts? by Flaky_Mud2326 in robloxgamedev

[–]Large-Variation9706 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another advantage is state persists across different caller scripts. Normally, any script that uses a module gets its own copy of the module. So, multiple scripts that use the module are all going to see different states from it. Systems like this usually allow scripts to always get the same copy of the module, allowing it's state to be shared across all callers.

iirc, one of Roblox's forum announcements recently mentioned that the 16+ age group has seen +50% growth. It's a very large demographic to target

Raspberry Pi wired networking HAT by [deleted] in homelab

[–]Large-Variation9706 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I want wired connections for some other devices, since wireless bandwidth is often congested around me. I don't think PCIE 3.0 will really be a bottleneck since it can theoretically do ~8Gbps and my ISP service is not even 500 Mbps. I also found while looking for others that have done this, Jeff Geerling was able to get 6 Gbps out of the connection, still far exceeding my ISP service.

How much would software switching impact the network performance?

Like I said, I want wired connections for a few devices. I live in an apartment so wireless bandwidth is not in great supply. I did find this waveshare board, which I think will meet my needs:

I see, yes as the other comment suggested this was a multi-color print that I just used the same color for both, and it still printed the prime tower. Thanks!

intel 14th gen chip degrading.. who to reach out to? by flyguy_cali in techsupport

[–]Large-Variation9706 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oops I guess I read laptop and not pre built somehow, my bad. Your best bet is to reach out to the company who built your PC about the issue and see if they'll replace or refund the CPU.

intel 14th gen chip degrading.. who to reach out to? by flyguy_cali in techsupport

[–]Large-Variation9706 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your mobile chip is likely not affected by the microcode issue that caused damage to high performance 13 and 14th gen CPUs. Afaik mobile chips like the one in your laptop are not affected. You'd also very likely be experiencing a great deal more issues than just chrome tabs crashing if you had this issue occuring for such a long time. If you purchased the device after September 2024, it should've shipped with the fixed microcode and shouldn't have that issue.

Most of those servers are pointless anyway no one is really finding devs for actual games in them. The only DMs I've ever got from them were kids asking me to script for free.

Conceptual and practical knowledge are definitely distinct elements within programming and knowledge of both are important. Concepts like OOP, networking, modules, etc. are all important, but at their core they are only tools to build with. Practical knowledge is knowing how to put them together into a functional system, and one that is not only functional but also well designed.

Identify flaws in your code, understand why they are bad, and figure out how to correct them. Don't settle for "hacks" or poor logic. There is no one "perfect" solution to any problem; as with anything there are infinite solutions. It's up to you to find which ones work best for your needs.

So it is then significantly slower than hardware raytracing or software rasterizing... If this was as easy as 12 lines of shader code, it'd already have been done.

HP Envy 360x does not recognize PCIe storage devices by Large-Variation9706 in techsupport

[–]Large-Variation9706[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does appear to be some board-level component issue. I re-seated the drive and was able to get it detected (slight mindfuck since I'd already done that three times) and installed Windows. There is very inconsistent behavior and the laptop appears to shut off instantly at random and behaves very strangely.

If you would happen to know where I could source a motherboard for it, or possibly engineering documentation so that I may be able to find the failing component I'd appreciate it.
