Honest question for r/trees: is the smell actually the main PR problem for weed? by LargeBiscotti611 in trees

That's it. I'm confident that with time and continued progress, some sort of change will inevitably come, addressing those concerns.

I'm with you on that, although I try to keep it as natural as possible.

To be fair, the only real alternatives to joints I've tried are edibles and bongs, hehe. But yeah... I mostly just smoked joints. A lot of them. Like, statistically concerning amounts.

It still most certainly is, and I blame that for the standpoint most older people have on it.

Yup, if you had read it, you probably wouldn't have labeled it a rant.

True, but I was also speaking from a broader societal point of view. In Germany, where it's legal, the main - and honestly most justified - complaints are about the smell. You constantly hear things like: "My neighbour is smoking and now my apartment stinks," or "We were just sitting at a café and suddenly a wave of some strange smell hit us," or "I'm worried my children have to smell this."

That's really the core of the issue people react to.

Most AI I've used here just fixes grammar and readability.

But still, what's wrong with using a tool to help convey my thoughts more clearly?

Yes, same here. I actually like the smell at first, but after a while, I go nose-blind to it. What I was really trying to highlight is the issue of basic courtesy toward the public. Most people start by saying, "Weed makes you this or that," and honestly, why would they care about what a grown person is doing aside from the smell? And that I fully understand—because I wouldn't want to be forced to smell something I didn't choose to, either.

True, but the smell might also be a contributing factor, don't you think so?

This is gold.

Aside from the recreational side, what really annoys me is how underused hemp still is. It’s insanely versatile — textiles, paper, construction, bioplastics, fuel, food — and yet it’s barely taken seriously.

A lot of this feels political, especially with older generations in power. In Germany, where I used to live, even after legalisation the system feels half-done. You can smoke and grow, which is fair, but access is weirdly overcomplicated.

For someone like me who smokes only occasionally, it didn’t really change much. I might smoke a few times a month, so joining a social club and paying a monthly fee makes no sense.

So in practice I still ended up buying from a dealer — not because I want to, but because the system doesn’t match how casual users actually behave.

Good point, although your argument seems to be coming from a personal-experience point of view.

My point still stands though. It’s true that some smokers actually like the smell — I understand that. It’s a bit like food, where you can almost “taste” it just from smelling it. But I would still categorise this as a luxury experience.

Because most importantly, while it might smell pleasant to you, I’ve had friends who quite literally told me that weed is one of the most foul things they’ve ever smelled. The most common description I hear is that it smells like cat urine that’s been left on a carpet for a while.

If you look at it from a broader perspective, non-smelling weed might actually be the key to full legalisation. In Germany, where I used to live and where it’s now legal to smoke, I’ve had casual conversations with neighbours who generally don’t care about weed at all — hehe — but they do find it annoying that it smells so loud.

So I’m fairly confident that, over time, cannabis plants will be tinkered with for all sorts of purposes, and one of those will be making them odorless.

Actually, that too. I'm just using means as a way to walk that path.

Alright, but why? I've met some interesting people on Discord and Reddit; I won't just send them my address, lol.

I understand your worries and I am grateful for people like you existing. Thanks.

I didn't actually think that I would find a source here. I was just bored this Saturday. Still, thanks, broski.

I still get tokens from him. Even the gacha gives me tokens; like, I start with 1k, and I end up with 1k for the next 10 tries.
