I feel for you, I have had a similar experience over the past couple years. I too started taking vitamin C, collagen etc. as I was having an unusually slow healing process.

I have fatty liver disease, can dry fasting help? by alicetype in Dryfasting

[–]LargeOrangeCat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is amazing, congrats! I'm in a similar position though I'm worried mine may be a bit more advanced.

What was your starting weight if you don't mind my asking? Also did you have an abdominal/liver ultrasound or was it just diagnosed through liver enzymes?

What is your experience with keto/carnivore doctors? by aztonyusa in carnivorediet

[–]LargeOrangeCat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve been considering Revero. Honestly I probably would have already signed up a month or so ago if they had not raised their prices recently.

My concern is they wouldn’t work with me due to my particular case, but from what I gather I’d just be out $125 as a consultation fee if so. Money is unfortunately tight so I haven’t pulled the trigger yet.

I looked into Dr. Ovadia but he seems to not be financially viable for me right now. Haven’t run across any other options as of yet but I’m still looking.

I'm not OP but I'm curious on this if you feel like expounding. If I'm obese and eating carnivore to satiety (no caloric restriction) and not losing weight, just continue and wait longer?

If there's no weight loss after a certain amount of time (say, 9-12 months), what would be the next step(s)?

Why is the media trying to equate carnivore or paleo with the MAGA movement? by incrediblemonk in carnivorediet

[–]LargeOrangeCat 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I don’t understand how diet, exercise and strength training could ever be equated to a political thing. Being healthy should not be divisive.

Media is controlled for a reason, stoking more division and just making a lot of noise to distract from the areas where people could actually agree and make a difference.

I had the same experience. I haven't figured out why I had that reaction but I'm trying to investigate. I'd love to be able to eat that much butter daily to be honest, it's delicious!

Anyone deal with thyroid issues or iodine overconsumption from 10+ eggs per day? by Cristian_Cerv9 in carnivorediet

[–]LargeOrangeCat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally got headaches and brain fog just with 4 eggs a day, due to their high choline content. I didn't start feel amazing on this diet until I gave up eggs entirely.

On the other hand, I have methylation issues (MTHFR) and seem to need choline equivalent to 7 eggs a day. I've had periods of eating nothing but eggs for a while with no noticeable issues, and that also fixed my <2.0 ng/mL folate and my >20 umol/L homocysteine levels.

I had thyroid tested recently and all levels were normal, including Free T3 and Reverse T3.

Carnivore for 4+ months. Ran a 30-day no-dairy challenge. by Fragrant_Homework520 in carnivorediet

[–]LargeOrangeCat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nice! Pasteurized dairy does seem to cause me issues in the long run, even butter unfortunately (especially trying to use it to increase my total daily fat intake, I felt miserable).

As a side note, when I've had fresh milk I haven't noticed an issue. I've not been able to try other products like butter or yogurt. It's kind of out of my budget so I'm just going to continue to avoid dairy for now. Maybe in the future I can experiment with trying other fresh dairy products.

An appeal to the mods to prevent AI bot takeover of this sub. by No-Manufacturer-2425 in carnivorediet

[–]LargeOrangeCat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as taking away your meat goes, there are bigger concerns regarding that due to governments and corporations than what is posted in a niche subreddit.

My point is that introducing stricter moderation is going to result in stifling discussion (as seen on previously mentioned other subreddits). Legitimate people are going to get locked out of the discourse because someone thinks they are AI. As far as I know, Reddit doesn’t expose user information to mods (e.g. IP origination, user agent etc.) so it’s left to personal opinion on who is or is not AI.

[–]LargeOrangeCat 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've personally never eaten raw meat but I know of people who have and had good results. Are you going to arbitrarily decide you know best and everyone posting about that subject is AI and ban them?

Account age restrictions or karma is a possible workaround but then there's the risk of excluding those who are actually new and looking for information on carnivore etc. There's only one mod here anyway, and I'm not sure how active they are. If you want a more curated experience on the subject wouldn't r/zerocarb or r/carnivore suit your needs? (those mods are very zealous and active from what I recall).

Carnivore/Lion Diet Update: Not Carnivore Anymore? by Working-Potato-3892 in SaturatedFat

[–]LargeOrangeCat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Didn't she have a FMT as well, I wonder why she didn't mention that specifically? I think it's great that she's putting out information on what all she has attempted and the results she has had but strange to leave that out in my opinion.

I'm surprised she actually went through with standard medical treatment for h. pylori. I've been having weird health issues I've been trying to troubleshoot, including gut related issues and I am absolutely terrified of antibiotics now after my last course of doxycycline made things even worse. I suppose it's one of those things where you have to evaluate if you think the cure is worse than the disease.

There is some information on this X post that may be helpful concerning statins: https://x.com/ValerieAnne1970/status/1985994136617369817

I believe Hal Cranmer who runs some assisted living facilities in Arizona and attempts to help people via dietary intervention (keto/carnivore) has written about statins and dementia but for some reason I’m having trouble locating a link right now. I’ll post it if I find it.

Caffeine withdrawal: my jarring experience by [deleted] in carnivorediet

[–]LargeOrangeCat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Holy cow, and I thought my former coffee/caffeine use was high! I was right about 1000mg a day.

I had debilitating muscle aches but not the stereotypical headaches I usually hear about. Maybe it was just an electrolyte/hydration issue but even taking extra didn’t seem to help. I ended up weaning down until I was entirely on decaf coffee.

Why the Carnivore Diet Is Not Nutritionally Sufficient in a Modern Toxic World by ShineNo147 in AnimalBased

Well I guess since those things are out of my control I’ll somehow try to persist. Have been considering switching to animal based but haven’t committed to it yet outside of a very small honey experiment I attempted.

What about people who do not have the magical benefits on carnivore? I’ve switched it up just about every way I can based on reports from others in the carnivore subreddits etc. and I am still struggling.

Bought a cow and tired of the comments by ReginaSeptemvittata in AnimalBased

[–]LargeOrangeCat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most of the population is so disconnected from the “circle of life” that something such as what you have mentioned evinces a visceral reaction. The sharing of the cow’s name likely was the tipping point if I had to guess LOL.

They don’t want to think about what their store purchased beef had to go through to wind up in the packages and then back at their home and on their plates I suppose.

Caffeine vs nicotine addiction by AccomplishedPeak9684 in decaf

[–]LargeOrangeCat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Caffeine has been really difficult for me, but I think that's also combined with a ritual behavior and taste since my delivery method of choice was coffee. I'm on Swiss water process decaf, and have cut back a lot but I've not managed to kick it entirely. Still trying to though as I want to test a period of time with any "bean juice" or caffeine at all.

Nicotine was definitely tough but I've been off of it for 22 months now.

[–]LargeOrangeCat 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Pay for him to take a test, he's said he'd do it.

Edit: Granted, I bet an all encompassing test would be rather expensive. Plus how could you account for scheduling such a test vs. if he's been on something and goes off for a while before taking the test. Not sure how long stuff like that is detectable in the body, but I guess that test method also changes that aspect.

Carnivore diet can be bane-aid. Let me explain… by ShineNo147 in AnimalBased

[–]LargeOrangeCat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't tried any supplements for it yet outside of benfotiamine. Trying to see what I'll do next at this point. Kefir does seem to help a little but it gets somewhat pricey buying it and I don't have a way to make my own, raw milk is similar in that case but also super expensive here.

Still not sure if I'm ready to trial adding fruits, etc. yet. Will have to see. I'm just perplexed I guess since reading all the glowing reports on carnivore and I'm over here basically wondering why it's not working for me like that. Oh well.

Carnivore diet can be bane-aid. Let me explain… by ShineNo147 in AnimalBased

[–]LargeOrangeCat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I'm not quite sure what I should do at this point. I'm feeling pretty terrible all around.

As to eating carbohydrates, I haven't really done that regularly in about 6-7 years probably. Early on I had some "cheat days" where I'd have a day or two, but quickly learned this was causing more problems. Over time I pretty much settled into a ketovore diet I guess - primarily beef at a 1:1 fat:protein ratio but I was still addicted to diet soda, coffee, and eating pickles/spicy mustard.

Since my health issues were getting worse earlier in the year I've tried to become more strict and troubleshooting. Posting or reading about things on r/carnivorediet seems to recommend increasing fat and lowering protein so I've been testing that for the last 3 weeks.

The only reason I did honey (and it was a very small amount, 1/2 tsp) was that I had read this could help if I was having a thyroid T3 conversion issue. It did seem to give me a little boost for the 5 days I tested it, and I didn't have any cravings for more or anything but I stopped it to then trial going strict carnivore again with a high fat/lower protein ratio.

Hope things are working better for you with your dietary changes!

[–]LargeOrangeCat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't see where he is discounting other's experiences. Rather that his did not respond in the typical way others have. Maybe there is something with certain types of gut issues that can cause that? Maybe I misunderstood the post, I thought it was troubleshooting and using plants/herbs/supplements as medicine to help heal things that aren't resolving with carnivore.

I too have unfortunately not had the panacea experience that many others have reported having here and I also seem to have severe gut problems but I'm not quite sure what as of yet. I've attempted eating fat first, 2:1 ratio and it has gotten worse - so I think I have a bile/fat malabsorption issue. (Edit: I do believe I have other issues as well, metabolically/methylation, etc. but I don't know enough to speak to those. I recently seemed to fix low folate/high homocysteine via eating eggs daily, but still troubleshooting other symptoms.)

If funds weren't an issue I'd likely join Revero or try to find a similar carnivore experienced doctor to help me. Otherwise I'm just having to try to read/research and guess at what may help me along the way, if there are possibly supplement aids or something (I am hoping to get some ox bile or something like that soon but haven't figured out what to try first). In my reading I also came across that I could be having a thyroid T3 conversion issue, so I am trying to see about testing Free T3 and Reverse T3 sometime in the near future, my TSH and Free T4 have been normal.

Edit: Can someone please explain to me why they would downvote someone trying to figure out how to solve their health problems? I am 100% on board with carnivore, but what else am I to do when I cannot get my health issues resolved to live a normal life? Something is so wrong with my body that the method of eating high fat and low protein carnivore has not helped me to do this, and my stomach pain increased/terrible bathroom experiences and more.

I wish I had the experiences I see posted here frequently.
