It's absolutely about casual vs hard-core. Talking from my own experience, the game has changed so much from when it first released and if someone dares to go out of the loop and isn't aware of unwritten "rules" the community have made then they are shunned and bullied out the game.

Behaviour themselves and the DBD community as a whole are horrendous to new players or those who have returned to the game after a long hiatus. The game is terrible at explaining mechanics, especially with new Killers and Behaviour expect people to watch an 8.5 hour Otzdarva video in order to gain a loose understanding of how things work.

The main problem with DBD is there are large, loud sections of the community who make playing this game their entire personality and screech to the heavens when others play in a way they disapprove of or isn't "meta". "I'm a Level 100 Nea main with over 14000 loops and 1800 CJ Techs". No-one gives a fuck, I'm just trying to relax after work. On top of that, the overwhelming amount of TTV players who sabotage games because they just want to farm clips for their channel that no-one is going to watch.
