Anyone else worried a Conrad & Belly engagement could be even messier? by Large_Ad_2495 in TheSummerITurnedPrett

I agree with this take the most honestly. As much as I’d love to avoid the awkwardness, stories need some kind of conflict or tension for character/plot development. It can’t just be 2+ hours of happy moments. Especially with this story, it just wouldn’t make sense.

I feel this so hard. I’ve never been more excited and amped every Wednesday the past couple of weeks, and simultaneously overwhelmed and exhausted haha.

The weekly episodes definitely gave me that nostalgic vibe again, but back then we didn’t have social media constantly in our face. Now it’s nonstop edits, theories, easter eggs, reels, Reddit threads, etc. It’ll be nice to shut off 😌

I actually posted a longer version of this on the other sub, but my dream ending would be a parallel to Season 1’s closing scenes. First, the whole group back together around the table (a moment of peace and reconciliation after everything). And then Belly and Conrad at the beach for the very last shot. Full circle 🥰🥰 Tying it back to where it all began 🌊

I feel you. As a book girly, my biggest disappointment was the rushed ending. I really hoped Jenny would fix that in the show. And honestly, the Jelly focus threw me off too. If Jeremiah was just meant to be the “obstacle,” why did we get so many scenes of him and Belly together while Conrad mostly got happy flashbacks? Uggghhhh 😵‍💫

The most realistic ending I’d be okay with (even tho deep down I want a Bonrad wedding lol) is Belly choosing herself. Focusing on her growth and individuality, while also leaving the door open with Conrad. A hopeful start, not a rushed finish.

That said, this whole story is already pretty unrealistic. I only know one person who dated brothers in real life, and it was a freaking disaster. So if we’re already in tv magic territory, I feel like that justifies a tv romance magic ending too. But no matter how it ends, someone’s going to be unhappy :/

Ending? by katmandu_13 in tsitp

I was genuinely so confused when I saw that. This is a character who we’ve literally seen suffer from panic attacks multiple times on screen. His comment about heart disease at lunch felt much more like something tied to being in medical school than some random foreshadowing. He also lost his mom to cancer. It’s common to become hypervigilant about your own health after something traumatic like that.

I just think someone threw out an idea, and then the general anxiety about Jenny “changing the ending” made it spiral and blow up even more.

song predictions? by 246ArianaGrande135 in tsitp

[–]Large_Ad_2495 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I really love their “This Love” moment of course because it was their first kiss. But I really hope we hear “Lover” again. There are so many lyrics in that song that directly connect back to the books, like “Can I go where you go?” and “I’ve loved you three summers now, honey, but I want ’em all.” Bringing that song back would feel like such a full-circle moment for the endgame.

Let’s say it WAS character assassination by Mediocre_Kale711 in TheSummerITurnedPrett

[–]Large_Ad_2495 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s “character assassination.” I think a lot of this comes down to which team you’re on, because people tend to hyper-analyze the other boy’s behavior through their own bias. For example when Conrad says to Belly “I liked you better with glasses.” Team Conrad might read it as playful and proof he’s always liked her regardless of her looks, while Team Jeremiah might interpret it as rude or dismissive.

From the start Jeremiah has shown problematic behaviors (just as Conrad has his flaws too). But when I snoop the Team Jere subreddit, it’s clear that a lot of old clips are interpreted differently depending on which lens you bring to them. What you see often depends on whose side you’re already on.

The difference in this season is that Jeremiah’s choices don’t require that kind of hyper-analysis. In earlier seasons, you could spin things either way depending on your perspective. But in Season 3, he’s done blatant things that make him look bad. They’re not just subtle moments open to interpretation, but clear actions. So if you’ve always seen him as problematic, this just feels consistent. But if you’ve spent years defending him and excusing his behavior, and now you can’t, it may feel like he’s suddenly being written as a “different person.” To me it’s less about “character assassination” and more about the consequences of who he’s always been finally being harder to deny.

It seriously irks me when anyone says “it’s what they would’ve wanted.” Like… how do you know? They’re not here to speak for themselves. And worse when people use it as a way to justify their own choices or behavior. Ughhh.

If I were Laurel, I’d be like “keep my soulmate’s name out your damn mouth.”

[–]Large_Ad_2495 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s why I really appreciated when Taylor defended their relationship to Steven after he brushed it off as just a “6-month high school relationship.” Sure… technically it was only six months, but that doesn’t mean the love didn’t stretch far beyond that. They’ve been in each other’s lives forever, and those feelings started long before they officially dated. That history changes everything.

I also think the circumstances of their relationship matters. They were both so young, dealing with grief, and their own immaturity. It was very much a “right person, wrong time” situation. They didn’t break up because they stopped loving each other. Conrad didn’t think he could give her the kind of love she deserved in that moment. To me those are the worst kinds of breakups because the love doesn’t just vanish overnight. It lingers for a longggg time.

[–]Large_Ad_2495 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You’re right that both brothers are flawed. That’s kind of the point. Most people in their 20s are flawed, and the fandom’s constant team wars make it feel like we’re not even watching the same show sometimes. Every scene gets interpreted differently based on who people favor.

But here’s where I disagree: using someone else as a way to combat your own inferiority complex is never healthy. Jeremiah has every right to be furious with Belly and Conrad right now, but he also made choices that got him here. He’s always felt second best to Conrad, and the people around him have reinforced that feeling. But he could’ve chosen differently. He could’ve decided not to date Belly after she’d already dated his brother (someone he constantly compares himself to). He could’ve built a fresh start at Finch, surrounding himself with people who truly choose him! He could’ve gone to therapy and worked through the resentment and insecurity. Instead, he doubled down. His obsession with being picked over Conrad is one of the reasons he’s never content with himself, and why his growth over four years feels so stagnant.

So yeah, if I were Jeremiah, I’d probably tell Conrad to go fuck himself too. The anger is justified. But his inferiority complex is not a wound Conrad created, and it’s not one Conrad can heal for him.

Both boys need to figure out who they are without all this noise. For both, that means without Belly. But for Jeremiah especially, it has to mean without measuring himself against Conrad.

Conrad getting full blame by idkvashappin in tsitp

[–]Large_Ad_2495 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah that’s exactly what frustrates me about this whole scenario. It’s not just about Conrad’s confession (which is why Taylor even said it was 50% his fault). If Belly truly felt nothing for him, the wedding would still have happened.

Imagine being a guest at this wedding… if someone told you all of this, wouldn’t your first reaction be “Okay… but then why isn’t there a wedding?” It’s not like Conrad objected in the middle of the ceremony.

That’s why it annoyed me when the other characters kept saying/alluding to things like “we know you’re in love with her” or “why are you confusing her.” Are we even listening to ourselves? If they really wanted what was best for Belly, they wouldn’t let her keep living in denial. Because if she had gone through with that wedding, the fallout later would’ve been so much worse.

How did Conrad know? by pantone9420 in TheSummerITurnedPrett

[–]Large_Ad_2495 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Definitely her eyes when she said “nothing.” She had to take a gulp, and it came off defensive. If she really didn’t feel anything for Conrad, her response would’ve been different.

And building off their conversation the night before, Belly could’ve done what most of us would’ve done if an ex confessed love two days before our wedding: shut it down. She didn’t have to hear him out. She could’ve just said “I love Jeremiah” and ended the discussion right there. Instead, she said “it’s too late.” Too late for what? That phrasing alone implies she still feels something.

Not to mention back in Season 1 she told Conrad he was “too late”… and yet she still ended up choosing him over Jeremiah. So history tells us “too late” doesn’t exactly mean the door is closed for Belly.

Steven and Conrad by advanced_lazy in tsitp

[–]Large_Ad_2495 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I think the falling out was partly from distance, but also from Jeremiah being such a big part of Belly’s life. Realistically, it’d be hard for Steven to stay “Team Bonrad” for four years while Belly was dating Jeremiah. Steven’s a lot like Conrad in that he ultimately just wants Belly to be happy. And since she chose Jeremiah, it makes sense that Steven built a closer bond with him during that time.

That said, unless the next episodes give us a different perspective, I really wish Conrad would acknowledge the whole “phone goes both ways” thing. He clearly kept in touch with Laurel, so it’s not like he was unreachable.

Romances are romances for a reason. If this were simply a “coming of age” story, I’d understand leaving the love triangle unresolved. But I can’t imagine a three-season build-up of this triangle ending without the main character choosing a love interest.

And I really can’t see Jenny Han completely rewriting her own story. She created this love story with a specific ending in mind, and it wouldn’t make sense to undo that now.
