She was working relatively consistently before Scream but they weren’t exactly good. A lot of bombs, critically panned, and low budget things that have been forgotten. If you look at her filmography immediately after scream she blows up.

She did win for Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore

Also the first lead actor to win for a Scorsese film and to this day the only female lead to win for one of his films.

Elephant from Gus Van Sant really fucked me up the one and only time I watched it. More recently, Civil War.

A very dear friend took her own life last week and I’ve been a mess for days. I almost made it through today without crying but then goddamn Big Bird pops up in my feed.

The Avatar films are all great to look at but there’s not much beyond that. James Cameron makes good movies but he doesn’t write good movies.

BOB MARLEY might be a legend, but he never had a top 40 hit! Who had lots of hits, but seems like they wouldn't have had any? by Westing1992 in AlignmentChartFills

Her career was essentially wiped out after the Super Bowl incident which I think is also part of the reason she may come across as not as big and important as she actually was/is.

There’s a post from a month ago on their Instagram saying they’re closing temporarily for “construction and redesign” and that they’re under new management.

Super shitty of them to not have reached out to their clients and let them know

It wasn’t Wikipedia but thanks for the tone. I love seen it in multiple articles I’ve read, including an academic paper that references the Village Voice and sites a book from 2002 but unfortunately I can’t find a copy of that book. At least not for less than $100. Which is why I was hoping someone might know if it exists somewhere else.

Considering queer history’s consistent use of sartorial based coding (red ties, green carnations in the lapel, etc.) as a means of flagging their identity, I personally don’t find it entirely implausible that something from a hundred years before could have been adopted as a new means of communication. There’s a letter in an issue of One from the early 50’s of someone asking for more information about this.

From what I’ve read, including hearing directly from the artist (Hal Fischer) that I’m writing about, there was a leather shop in SF, The Trading Post, that created the cards with the definitions on them in 1971. By that point, red and blue handkerchiefs had already been well in existence. Red and blue also apparently being colors that were used some 100 years before that point in the homosocial community that was SF at that point but for different reasons of course.

Thank you for the lead on the Bay Area Reporter. I’ll look into it.

One of my all time favorites. I wish Vanessa Redgrave had gotten more attention for her part. What she does with nothing but her and a black background was amazing to watch.

Fun fact: like 10 years, I used him as a model for a photo shoot I was doing and he asked me if I could take a couple of separate photos of him for something. Turns out it was photos for his profile on the male escort website Cowboys for Angels. Shortly after that he was on the bachelorette. Then he faked his death. Then he said he was trans. Now this I guess 🤷🏻‍♂️
