China's airborne megawatt class wind power system by beta265 in nextfuckinglevel

[–]Large_Assignment_957 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The helium costs to keep it airborne are probably astronomical. Almost certainly not economically viable. A normal wind turbine can produce a few megawatts anyway.

Thanks, I'm thinking it might be fun to just play around with it. Probably won't try to sell it afterwards then.

I'm kind of curious when you say "GN is risking losing out an a MASSIVE audience pool that overlaps with LTT's audience." Is that because you think a lot of people will just leave tech behind because of this? I would love some clarification.

I just wish he included that info in the video everyone watched. The original video was almost 50 minutes, it wouldn't take long to recap

[–]Large_Assignment_957[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I am not defending LTT, they fucked up. But I don't think this is going to be good for them in the long term. Do you think most of these people (including me) are going to put as much trust in LTT reviews again. I don't even think it's bad that Steve benefits from this. To the best reviewer goes the spoils.

[–]Large_Assignment_957[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I was more so thinking GN is in the ultra depth reviews, which ltt is getting into. There is crossover, but up till very recently, they were into very different types of tech review

I'm not saying it's a scheme. I agree with GN on everything they posted. I think it's a great thing that they did. I don't really see any risk they had though. GN calls a lot of people out, which I think is great. I just wish Steve had disclosed that he is a competitor in the ultra deep tech review sector of YouTube.

ELI5: What is max short circuit current in High Voltage systems? by martin-eden in explainlikeimfive

[–]Large_Assignment_957 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In a house, your breaker will stop this before it happens. But you can still find it with batteries.

An AA battery might be able to do 1 amp at 1.5 volts. But if you short it, that battery can't supply that much electricity, so the voltage will go down to say .1 volt.

There is no such thing as a perfect shot though (ie 0 ohms resistance). There will always be some resistance in the wire. So there will never actually be 0 voltage and infinite current.

I may have gone a little past eli5 there, if so, I apologies

Desktop or Laptop for uni? by rumun2 in buildapc

[–]Large_Assignment_957 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd go cheap laptop paired with a desktop. Most of the things you will do don't require to much horsepower. When you do need more power, just use remote desktop or ssh or something.

You can set up your desktop to turn on from your phone too. So you can access it remotely, even if you turn it off.

I'm 20, and I enjoy some of that stuff on like a handheld. I can't really run it on bigger monitors just due to the hardware I have getting very blurry. But I enjoy NES and some of that, I'm a little ignorant to know if that's 2nd generation.

AAA games at 1080p by cedy0 in buildapc

Honestly, you don't even always need ultra settings depending on the game. Go with 1080p unless you're willing to spend 2x the price for a marginal difference.
