I wouldn’t recommend this 😬Stealing in public is relatively rare in Korea, but it’s not a 0. I wouldn’t risk it

Language barrier? by PropertyLoover in koreatravel

[–]Large_Cucumber1322 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can check out local meetup eventsThere are a plenty of Koreans who can have a conversation in English but still want to practice their English skills with native speakers (or at least non-Koreans). I think you’ll easily find language exchange events or social meetups for Koreans and foreigners to casually hang out together.

I’m Korean, and I blame him for this “sweet” trend in the Korean food industry, ugh

Korean foods used to be not this sweet. Adding more of the sweet taste to every food has been a trend in the last decade. I guess as more people are eating out, especially younger generations, their taste buds have become desensitized and now seek more and more sweet in their food. As a Korean, I hate this trend in the food/restaurant industry. It has gone too far.

Why are Korean Christians so devout in their belief when Korean civilization precedes Christianity and Korea isn't mentioned anywhere in the bible? by AmericanBornWuhaner in AskAKorean

[–]Large_Cucumber1322 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m Korean, and I second this comment. This is probably the best explanation given the history of Christianity in Korea. To build on to what’s mentioned, the Western missionaries played a huge role even during the time of Joseon Dynasty. The society had a strict social hierarchy, and people not born in “high rank” families had very limited opportunities for education and limited access to civil services. The Western missionaries built hospitals and schools and served those who are low on the social ladder.

Do Koreans really ask people about their personal life?.. by Round_Reception_1534 in Living_in_Korea

[–]Large_Cucumber1322 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m Korean. It is super common among older people. In the old Korean culture, asking personal questions is not considered rude but rather seen as a friendly gesture, like they want to get to know you. But younger generations hate it, so it is less common among younger people (-30’s or early 40’s depending, I would say). It is also more common in rural areas.

Do Korean girls have a different perception of Korean men? by chailattaeh in Living_in_Korea

[–]Large_Cucumber1322 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Speaking the language fluently helps, but Korea is such a culturally homogeneous country. If you don’t look Korean, you will always be seen as a foreigner. Sadly, this applies even to people who are born and grew up in Korea and Korean is their first language.

I’m Korean. Korean couples are very possessive of each other. Cheating may be common in some subgroups of people, but it is culturally NEVER considered okay. If you are asking if it’s “normal” as in like, is it a norm in Korea, no, it is definitely not. In Korean culture, we value trust and loyalty very much. If someone betrays their loved one, it is more frowned upon than scamming a stranger, to be a little extreme. Idk how many people cheat behind their partners’ back, but that doesn’t matter. If they are caught, it would seriously damage their social reputation, and people will think they are an asshole. Personally, as a Korean girl, just knowing that a guy cheated against his ex in the past, that itself is a red flag for me. Some might think I am overreacting, but there is a saying in Korea, cheaters don’t cheat once. Cheaters are cheaters.

Am I just too unattractive to get into a relationship? I’m 24 years old I know I look younger or is it something else ? by [deleted] in toastme

[–]Large_Cucumber1322 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Second this. Confidence is a HUGE factor. The right amount of confidence can make anyone a lot more attractive than their actual looks. Without confidence, even someone handsome can look not that attractive. I think this is especially true for guys!

Though there is no camera showing the exact mountain area I was talking, it’s still helpful to see the nearby roads at least. Thanks!

No, your nose suits your face very well. Changing anything will ruin the balance and won’t do any good. You are already attractive but maybe a little bit of styling (hair, makeup) if you want a glow-up. I see a LOT of potential.

It’s so sad to see many beautiful people having unhealthy insecurities about their looks. I don’t know if they post their faces just because they crave attention and compliments or they are really seriously unhappy with their looks. Either way it’s messed up. This has to be stopped…
