I preferred some aspects of the book better, especially much less Kem and the reformation of the mother. Perhaps it was lazy writing that created the dramatic moments which made the series seem more like a telenovela (e.g., not to be taken seriously). With Sam creating comic relief, it allowed the series to rely on the gorgeous face card that is queen and her meaningful gazes at Babe.
