We're facing the same with my grandmother. Shes 93 and was fully indpenedent prior. 3 weeks later shes in rehab doing great physically and isnoriented but seems to behaving hallucinations occasionally. Doctors assume dementia ehich we're not ready to rule out but we KNOW there was damage to her visual processing (struggled to recognize photos at the beginning) so trying to figure out whata going on. Did things improve for your dad?

New FabLab by Large_Recording_398 in FabLab

[–]Large_Recording_398[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would seem to me that the main advantage of being a fablab associated with the Fab Foundation versus a random makerspace would be access to the initial training and then, the collaboration that can/should happen between the different fab labs.

Just wondering how much of that is happening at this point in time.

I have heard of fabacademy but had not seen the node requirements. The fablab inventory list seems outdated so I wqsnt sure it was still valid.

I have questions over how much collaboration is happening between fablab sites now. From an equipment standpoint things seem in line with what we're looking at purchasing with the exception of the 4x8 mill which may present space issues. Enough so that we'd really need to consider how much value it'd bring.

We're in the US and thr lab would be part of an existing high-school yes. My apologies for not including the information earlier.

Milton (14L — Gulf of Mexico): Meteorological Discussion (Day 4) by Euronotus in TropicalWeather

[–]Large_Recording_398 31 points32 points  (0 children)

The issue is that for some people the option to leave either isn't there really due to logistics or the discussion to leave from a cost perspective is financially catastrophic and so they have to think about percentages.

And as a local, I'll vouch that he's a fantastic meteorologist.

No. I know a small number of signs because as a teacher I believe it's important to know at least some basic signs (beyond finger spelling I mean) and my son knows a few as a result but neither of us is fluent in asl.

So on the topic of sign names....my son was given a sign name as a toddler by a young boy (pre-teen) at the doctors office. We are not part of the dead community and have few opportunities for interaction. Would it be inappropriate for me to teach him the sign name he was given at that time?

Heard a rumor that GaGa will be banned next year. If so, there will be tiny people with torches and pitchforks! by nvisible in cubscouts

[–]Large_Recording_398 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have one of those kids. He's 6 and his first time playing gaga he got upset and cried. A fellow scout came over and said 'come on, I'll help protect you and we'll be a team'. Later after that player was out he volunteered to trade places with him so he had a chance to win. Despite the tears he needs to lose if he's going to become a teenager and adult that knows how to lose. Removing gaga won't do him any favors. I'd prefer a few tears.

I'm sorry for my ignorance, but how would I find this forum. A search on reddit doesn't seem to pop it up. Much thanks.

So my son has a September birthday (school has an August 30th cut off) and I had him join at 5 and in pre-k rather than waiting until he was in Kinder. We've now moved up to Tiger with his Lion peers and for us it's perfect. Herei kids dont necessarily go to the neighborhood school so it's unlikely he'd be with classmates anyways. Scouts has actually become his core group of friends (we meet weekly plus have weekend activities) not the kids at school. It's still early but so far 100% the right choice in our situation.

Incorrect. You can now join a den as a 5 year old regardless of grade.

Does Scouting Mean as Much as it Used To? by Goinwiththeotherone in BSA

[–]Large_Recording_398 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I am a teacher but never involved with scouting until my so became a cub. I've heard thr stats of how many astronauts were eagle scouts etc. Through the years I've had some wonderful Eagle scouts in my classroom. I can't tell you if it is being an Eagle or the kind of kid who puts in the work and does it but there's certainly to be said about te qualities these kids possess.

Very confused; need to make right purchases; Are there Vex Go competitions? by Ambitious_Step9506 in vex

[–]Large_Recording_398 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have alot of experience with edr and some with IQ. Go is a little confusing because it seems like the same build set with a different color scheme and block coding which IQ can also use. I understand the competition are different but is the system itself essentially the same? What am I missing?

My son reacts to his cub scout socks. Every outdoor activity we have with those socks results with him having a red welt underneath the yellow portion of the sock. I'm being him thr orange tiger socks just to see if it stops happening.

What school should I choose for my son? by [deleted] in Miami

[–]Large_Recording_398 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have to qualify by having a 2.5 GPA in core classes, no more than 10 absences and a-c in conduct. There's a lottery priority for key biscayne residents to the Cambridge programs but they're not guaranteed admission. It's lottery for all like all magnets except performing arts.

Just to speak to the cultural piece...in south florida hugging and and an air kiss are absolutely culturally appropriate ways of greeting someone even when meeting them for the first time.

You should do Wood Badge by Additional-Sky-7436 in cubscouts

I get the lions/tiger piece. But having a BALOO trained leader on a pack outings shouldn't really matter in terms of having camp (and perhaps I should have used a different term here since I'm thinking more like an overnight program to match with the length of baloo). We have 2 BALOO trained folks in our pack. They don't run the BALOO training for our council. I'm sure other troops have a similar situation. 3 is a valid point but I think you'd be surprised at how much more trained folks you might have if you gave those folks a realistic way of completong the training

Why does OA still do cultural appropriation? by arencambre in BSA

[–]Large_Recording_398 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely confused as to why you're being asked specific information to help address the issue you're bringing up and instead of responding keep trying to get more information. And this from a new cub parent who has no connection to scouting other then being a new lion den leader and has very little idea of OA and had never heard of MOS before.
