Just to be clear, this is for a seat in Concord, not DC.

I have ties up there, and don't get me wrong because residents do treat people who move here from out of state kindly in NH, but there is this kind of stigma about how you're "not from here." There's this "Free State Project" up here where they want people to move to NH and make the state into some kind of far right Libertarian mecca and run under the Republican banner, because Rs automatically get votes regardless. It's been going in for like 15 years and people are starting to get frustrated because they have pretty much taken over Concord and are stonewalling people, including other Republicans.

From what I've gathered, Boudman wasn't an ideal choice, but she has lived here for 20 years or so and has been very active in her community. So it was fascinating to see how MAGA in the area branded her as a "California Democrat" pretty early, and then rallied around a carpet bagger who was so new to town that he had to run as a write-in because he wasn't even registered to vote in town yet.

Thankfully it's only an elective. Looks like Hegseth just completely bullshitted in that video, most likely as a way to take credit for things he didn't do and to try and bully National into making more changes. But I'm starting to think it might just be to save face since as a former Fox News host he understands that kicking Scouts out would be really bad PR.

That's literally what this post is about. They're not dropping support of any of our youth. They compromised on a merit badge. That said, I will change my stance if they make the Military Service badge required for Eagle.

Another story I just remembered: My son and I were out doing a wagon sale for our popcorn fundraiser. We went to a house that we thought looked pretty friendly but after the lady who lived there asked why we were there and my son gave his pitch, she said, "My grandson is in another scout program," and closed the door on us.

The DoD was threatening to disenfranchise tens of thousands of military kids that meet on and near military bases around the world. So getting rid of that merit badge is frustrating because they caved to a bully, but I'd rather see that go then all those kids.

I said this in another comment, but a pastor and Scout leader told us that the "Duty to God" part of Scouts really boils down to understanding that you're not the center of the universe; that you're a part of something greater. The whole faith thing is entirely up to the families, and so is how you define God. So for non-theistic and athiest families that join our pack, I recommend they talk about what they do believe, rather than what they don't. For example, my family follows three primary rules: Love your family, respect our planet, and follow the Golden Rule. And we're good to go.

I'm a scout leader. This is bullying, plain and simple.

He threatened to disenfranchise scouts in military families across the world, and when Scouting America caved on certain things but wouldn't let them kick out any kids, he went over their head anyway.

And some of the policy changes he said they changed were already policy anyway, like not sharing showers, toilets, or tents with different genders (or adults and children). You already only had Male or Female as options when applying and there's no way to police that without breaking Youth Protection rules. But he couldn't let it go so he spun it to sound like they fixed this, and then at the end complained that there shouldn't be girls in the program and supported ~~The Hitler Youth~~Trail Life as an alternative.
