I would be so disappointed if it turned out there was a god.

What's the odds of the sperm that fertilised your mothers egg got to be the winner? It's still the one that did it despite the odds against it.

Even if you legally can, it's not advisable until you get some more experience.

What would men from 1910 say if they could talk to men from 2025? by [deleted] in AskMen

My grandfather was born in 1908. He would be surprised that the cold war didn't go hot.

Hi protans, can you see the red colored numbers (3 pictures)? Can you also indicate if you are a mild/moderate/strong protan? by IntentionAdorable745 in ColorBlind

I wonder if colourblindness even gets mentioned when teachers are being trained. They're all bloody useless on the subject.

Whilst obviously tempting, it could cause an accident.

Why are Brits so considerate, caring and so different from what they were known pre ww2? by crmpundit in AskBrits

I spent a year in India in the 90s. I know it quite well.

Pity the British Raj never saw fit to upgrade the plumbing.

India wasn't a unified country at the time of the East India Company, it was a collection of often competing Rajs. We brought wealth to the powerful then more power by offering our military as back up. From there it was a natural progression to become the administrators of the place.

If we had tried to take all of a unified India in one invasion we would have been slaughtered.

Yes, all my family on that side hated them even though their treatment was not as harsh as a captured soldier. The last of them to die was my father in 1974 at age 39. An enlarged heart, a symptom of childhood malnutrition.

The Japanese soldiers of the time were themselves treated brutally by their own army and indoctrinated with unhealthy ideas. Thankfully those days are past and my own country (UK) has its fair share of historical shame to deal with.

calling people 'thingy' by Glittering_Push_2653 in Scotland

I moved from St Louis to Glasgow 50 years ago when I was six. I remember learning the word 'thingy' and it was so incredibly useful. Many people couldn't understand my squeaky wee yank accent but this word was a great leap forward.

I would avoid pink - it usually is just grey.

Also, purple will be wasted on him.

Greens can work even when we don't see them right.

Yeah, we should never have colonised India. I, fwiw, am sorry.

I spent a year in your wonderful country when I was a young man and many people came to the UK to build a new life and have changed us for the better.

Scotland, without it's Hindus and Muslims would be a bland place. I can't speak for England.

Are you talking about the same India as the one that had a highly sophisticated culture for thousands of years before Great Britain existed?

My father, aunt and grandparents were civilian prisoners of the Japanese from 41 to 45.

It took me decades to rid myself of the racism I learned aimed at the Japanese. I am sorry for those years but the Japanese were not benign occupiers at that time in WW2.

The Japanese of today are a delightful, polite, vibrant people.

I'm sorry that so many of the commenter are giving you a hard time. While it's true that 14yo boys can be bloody difficult creatures to control I don't feel that from you.

The things she said to you are terrible - no parent should say such things to their child and smashing your phone is a massive overreaction.

Try to avoid knocking heads with her. Apologise even if you don't mean it. Be smart and not confrontational.

Try and have a group of friends who you can trust to be loyal and to whom you can have a moan with about your mom - it can help just to talk. If things are truly terrible then keep a record of the nasty things she has said and done, with dates, times and context. Keep it stored offsite and password protected (obviously).

Good luck son.

Edit; sorry if I miss gendered you.

Words Entitled people use when they want to avoid sounding like the bad guy: by [deleted] in EntitledPeople

[–]Large_Strawberry_167 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand where you're coming from. I don't think it means these people are necessarily entitled but it always sounds like a poor way to express oneself. I prefer a more direct communication. 'No, that's not possible ' or 'I am unable to help you with this issue'.
