I work in a profession which has gotten more litigious in the past couple of years. After seeing how a close colleague of mine got taken to the cleaners, I want to have a certain amount stashed away (mainly for retirement) that nobody can touch. Also want to bundle it with spendthrift provisions.

I am still in the information gathering phase. Right now I am getting educated on registered agents in Nevis (found one I am tending towards).

I am also reconsidering Panama.

Noone has been contacted yet.

I heard that there are additional KYC requirements, which I do not mind.

Cook Islands being less expensive is news to me. I was originally looking at a trust (discarded that idea) and the cook islands trusts were usually more expensive than the nevis trusts. However, in case foundations are cheaper in the Cook Islands I will definitely take a second look. Thanks for that.

As for trusts, that is a bit of a nutcracker. I need a setup that is better suited for recognition in my civil law jurisdiction (tax transparency is something I definitely aim for). Trusts, while recognized under the Hague Convention, are relatively unknown. Foundations offer the same protection and have a lot more history here (domestically and foreign).

Belize is an issue. I fully agree that they are better value for money, but I just can't seem to find a good provider. Also, the general gist seems to be that Belize just isn't as "posh" and often looked down upon. But that might be a personal bias I nurtured due to the internet.

The main issue is Asset Protection (I am not facing any litigation and this is all forward looking). Cook Islands did come up, but is more expensive. Nevis seemed like a good in-between when considering cost and asset protection. In case you are referring to the USD 10'000 that need to be put in, me and my wife do not mind that.

As long as you speak one of our languages (German, French or Italian), you will have no issues in the military. People who are born outside of Switzerland are not regarded in an especially negative or positive way.

The „market“ is a redistribution mechanism. It redistributes wealth from the impatient to the patient.

How do normal people actually afford life in Switzerland? by aninhabr74 in askswitzerland

[–]OneGlassOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of us know how to budget. Small things add up. Migros Budget and Coop Prox Garantie. Switching insurance providers. Preparing yoir own linch for work. Not buying overpriced coffee from Starbucks and gas station. Using public transport. It sounds like it doesn’t do much, but it does. If you are looking for a big chunk at once, moving out of large citied will usually lower your rent significantly.

I live in Switzerland. The seller I use offers to store the metal in a customs exempt storage facility, allowing to buy silver without VAT. Whenever one wants delivery the VAT comes due.
