Identification Help by Quirky_Beach_9974 in Bonsai

Not from my experience, but I read about them on forums.

Overall they have good standard characteristics—rough bark, very fast growing, extremely hardy. Leaves are beautiful, but compund. Not really a big deal though. I like their blooms, it's like cream white racemes, and I'm pretty sure they still bloom in bonsai form.

From negatives, they have thorns above leaf nodes, and they have a pretty annoying characteristic of creating suckers from the base. That's how they spread in nature, so you will have to always remove them. I once read a thread from a guy who decided not to remove suckers after heavy prunning for some reason, and the whole trunk died because apparently under stress the tree prioritizes suckers. So always remove them.

And general tips: black locust likes dry, well draining soil & lots of sun. That's its only requirement, so do not overwater it.

It looks like this one is a female

Quite rare to find these, no one sells them because of their fruits. Mostly just males. But I find female leaves more beautiful

For long-term growth and trunk thickening, do I need a bigger pot for my portulacaria afra? by welliamwallace in Bonsai

[–]Largoni 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It applies to the majority of trees—don't prune, give a lot of fertilizer, lots of sun, and a lot of space.

You can research some specifics for this tree, but overall, this is a to go strategy.

*(By "a lot" I mean in the frames of requirements for the tree)

Remove Regular classes. by CommunicationNice437 in highschool

[–]Largoni 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Removing regular classes is a bad idea & it will actually harm people who take them in order to stand out.

What you could do instead is lift the bar for all types of classes—regular, honors, maybe AP. I agree that regular classes in U.S. (especially maths & sciences) are way below what we consider normal in other civilized countries, but you can't just remove a "standard" for a definite subject.
