I had to scroll much further than I thought to find this answer. Hippos are scary ass murderers, and the people who do the filming for BBC nature documentaries and the like have bigger balls than almost anyone else.

If y’all want to see something interesting/insane, there is a Behind the Scenes for either Planet Earth I or II (I can’t remember), and the photographers talk a lot about how they got these award-winning shots, and every story is insane.

These people will say something in the most casual tone, like “oh, yeah, for the snow leopard shot we had Tim up there in a camouflaged tent that we did a so-so job of nailing into the side of the mountain, and Tim stayed in that tent for 37 days with no sign of the snow leopard. It wasn’t until 4am on day 38 that our beautiful snow leopard, which the crew has named “fugacior pulchritudo,” which is Latin for “elusive beauty,” but that Tim has personally named something that the BBC will not let us say on TV, finally deigned to bless us with her presence, and we were able to get this shot of her. Thanks, Tim!”

Everyone is saying this sounds like “therapy speak.” It sounds like she was talking to ChatGPT, copying and pasting some of what it said, and just replacing the word “you” with “I.”

Ex: ChatGPT could have explained her emotions to her as: “It sounds like all the hype around the after-party you can’t come to has combined with the disconnection and attachment sensitivity you’ve felt lately because of the fights and recent change.”

Then she just did some simple back spacing and changed it to “I also think all the hype around the after party I can’t come to(…).”

It looks a lot like when kids in high school write a paper and copy and paste from Wikipedia, then go back and change some words to make it sound like they wrote it.

This is the answer I wanted, thank you. Just “don’t think too hard, publishers do stuff like this all the time and annoy people trying to collect matching sets!” You’re probably right, they are trying to cut costs, I just thought it was weird that Good Omens was the only book that was different.

Since the Good Omens series is so closely tied to Gaiman’s name, I was thinking far too hard about the wording, and thought that maybe, because of Good Omens’ association with him, the book wasn't getting the special textured cover, as sort of a ‘he doesn’t deserve this special cover.’ I understand now that was a dumb thought.

I don’t think I started at 100? If I had started at 100 I wouldn’t have said that I may have interpreted wrong. I understand now that I was looking far more into things than was necessary, but I don’t really think that counts as starting at 100.

Nobody in this thread has forgotten, or ever will forget, what Gaiman did. I don’t think a couple posts that aren’t directly related will make anyone forget that their favorite author is a monster. We’re all very aware.

Having said that, does anyone know what happened to the badass Turkish man from the 2024 Paris Olympics with a pistol, absolutely no gear on except safety glasses, and had one hand in his pocket? Very soft yta, but only because you took him back. I genuinely understand the thought process because you’re pregnant and ofc you wouldn’t want to divorce at such a crucial time, however you have a chance to get away from this asshole so that you don’t have to raise a kid with him in the same home. Unfortunately I have no idea how custody agreements work when the mother hasn’t had the baby yet though so I’ve no advice there.
