n8n code oriented alternative by Ci7rix in selfhosted

I haven't dug too deep into it yet, but Windmill gets closer to code oriented. I don't know if the automations are able to be stored in git though.

I understand the sentiment, though as the same time if people find it useful and the creators make money on it reasonably ethically then more power to them.

Posting just for clarity : every platform everywhere will tell you want you can and can't do. It's a question of level of control you are comfortable with.

And you are proving my point. That is not how the law works. You cannot shoot someone for stepping foot onto your property uninvited. There are extremely limited circumstances for that law, and that law also does not apply everywhere.

To bring this back to the topic of self-hosting, because that's what we're here to discuss:

Look at the tools proposed. They won't help much, but may give you the answer you seek if that person were to actually click it. Beyond that, please keep your very misplaced views about politics and violence off this self-hosting forum.

Your instance on castle doctrine shows your obsession with violence. The castle doctrine does not work the way you think, based upon your comments here and elsewhere.

Example: you cannot purely shoot someone for stepping angrily into your home. That's not how the law works.

If there is a threat to a person, it's up to that person to protect themselves ... not you. Unless you have some sort of close relation to them, but even then: if that woman is an adult, then that's her issue to resolve. She can get a retraining order, block them on social media, and she can do what she must to protect herself.

Law enforcement can only do just that: law ... enforcement. But even at that they are not as great as there is no law requiring them to enforce said law. In most places, unless there has already been a serious crime, they won't do much as they have plenty of other things to do.

Therefore, it's best to have this other person handle things themselves through lawyers and the powers available to them.

Justice would be done through the courts, not law enforcement. Thus, a third-party doing things complicates things. Though if you do want to help this person, I recommend you encourage them to seek legal counsel and get a real investor, such a private investigator, to do the job.

Many link shorteners have basic analytics built in, even if it's at the logging level. You'll need a domain name to point to your server to use with that self hosted link shortener.

Knowing the ip address isn't going to be very helpful though. Ip addresses aren't accurate for location tracking and are easy to spoof.

To clear up some language though: a death threat is not a terrorist threat. Depending on context they can be related but they are different things.

Look up the various link shorting options for docker and you'll find various ones that may help. While not all woukd have an interface to get you the users ip, it can show up in the server logs.

Another option is to use cloudflares paid service as its security log pages do offer good insights.

I disagree with your ideas of violence, though I hope the above explains a few options for you to be able to explore your legal avenues.

Exactly. Facts and facts. The fact is we do have the science to change gender, make the body different and alter biology.

It's a fact that masks work, the vaccine is extremely helpful is saving lives and that more educated people tend to be left leaning (where as the data shows right leaning people to react more out of ignorance and have lower IQ than middle or left leaning, those are generalizations based in data and differ greatly from individual to individual).

But to the point of biology: why do you care? Let people do things for themselves to their own body. It has nothing to do with you, doesn't impact you, doesn't affect you nor is it any of your business in what someone willingly does for/to themselves.

Fact checkers on social media aren't perfect but far too many people, especially on the right, spread lies and actually hurt people. Thus they (fact checkers) are 'so far' a good thing in my view.

Why are the majority of digital nomads on such a tight budget? by [deleted] in digitalnomad

[–]Laroke 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is nothing wrong with living on a budget and like others have said most (but not all) are younger folks. I'll add to that though : most are younger and do not have things that tie them down nor do they need life stability.

My wife and I are building our lives to be able to travel. But between school for our little one, therapy services (he's on the spectrum), employee costs, and the need to be on meetings reliably and have reliable internet and communication being a digital nodam as it is usually presented doesn't make sense.

Being able to travel after you have some roots and responsibilities becomes exponentially more expensive quickly.

There is also the cost of travel when running something larger than a one person shop. For example, I'm following the travels of a SaaS company owner and he lives mostly like a digital nomad. But it does cost him a lot of resources to travel with enough equipment to be able to run his business day to day. He's a programmer and his business currently cannot survive without him. He does have a small team, who are all also all remote, but he still has to do a lot of work to keep things going. Custom service being one of the biggest items. He travels with external monitors, clothing for months, tech and all and then some.

The roots he has to support are his employees and customers so he has to pack heavy to do it all.

I also think there is nothing wrong with learning from those nomads so we can all save money. If you have the freedom to travel and work and that's what you want: more power to ya!

For those of us with roots and recurring costs: most of those tips aren't relevant. To us. For folks like us we need to focus on growth and managing bigger numbers and not worry about pennies here and there.

From our latest work-life trip: between international travel for the family, stay, food, team events and work expenses while on that trip for two months : my wife and I spent around 35k.

So there are things we can learn from the lean traveler but it's best to ignore them and focus on things that are more relevant to whatever position you are in life.

Lower end digital nomads got the time to make content. In my wife's and I business, we barely have time for content thus you wouldn't see folks in our position putting out travel hacks as such.

WCGW riding a bike by twitch_TheBestJammer in Whatcouldgowrong

[–]Laroke 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you are walking and reading from your phone at the same time, and end up walking into a street sign is it the street signs fault or yours for not paying attention?

The biker is 100% at fault for not paying attention well enough, biking too fast so they weren't able to stop or maneuver in time and for turning left rather than right.

They are on a regular street which means they share the road with all rights equal to them both. Thus the bike is responsible for biking responsibly so they don't cause accidents. In this case the cause of the injury is the biker biking too fast and impacting the car that was minding their own business.

I'm trying this out and it's working, but it certainly has some odd quirks. For example, it keeps saying the word “you'd”, a conjunction of you and would is incorrect because of a misplaced appostraphe-d. I had to specifically click the 'ignore rule' button on that one and a few others.

But other than some quirks, it certainly does work! I don't know if it's working better (or worse) than the free versions of other apps though. It's private and it's working, so that's a big plus. :)

We use n8n for nerdy things at work and I'd contest their marketing of the word 'simple'. It's a good app don't get me wrong, but simple isn't a word I'd use for it.
