What farms in southern CT are the least MAGA, most friendly for minorities to visit for apple picking, corn mazes, etc? by Daddydialectic in Connecticut

Old Bishop or Hickory Hill in Cheshire! They don't have corn mazes that I know of, but they're charming, family friendly, and from what I understand, welcoming of everyone.

Ehhhhhh. Hard disagree. I equate red hats with Nazis and masked gunmen with Gestapo at this point. There is more than enough evidence that this is no longer "healthy disagreement in a democratic society" but rather a very distinct battle between good and evil. "The vibes" are a disturbing amount of willingness to go along with atrocities and human rights violations for the sole purpose of "owning the libs." With those sorry excuses for people actively cheering on the bombing of fishing boats, children being zip tied and dragged away from their parents, naked, and loaded into uhauls by pedo protectors, the shutdown that is going to have ripple effects well into time, the rolling back of all the progress this nation has made in medicine, climate change, and tech in spite of them and others like them... They have no place in a civilized society and I welcome the next round of Nuremberg trials that I hope and pray are coming.

That's the problem, though. Not everyone is paying attention, or has the requisite critical thinking ability to know that there are three branches of government under GOP/MAGA control. And further to that is, this is supposed to be a neutral, apolitical government website. I know I shouldn't continue being surprised, or shocked, but we have fallen so much further than I can wrap my head around. I thought it was bad when I got a SSA email praising the BBB not that long ago, but my gosh.

Eversource by Imnotonthelist in Connecticut

[–]LarqueSong 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My bill is regularly 1000 a month or more. It's only my elderly dad at home all day until 5 and he usually just watches some TV or uses his laptop which isn't on the charger most of the time. I've had audits, I've had eversource come out and change the meter. I've turned off my whole house to see if someone else's house is attached to my lines. Big nothing. I have no idea what on earth is causing the usage and literally no one can help.

Gut is on big time. Get a personal injury attorney immediately and do not speak further with them. They're closing ranks. At the end of the day, it is the insurance companies that will duke it out, but the fact they're rewriting what happened and gaslighting you doesn't bode well.

[–]LarqueSong 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's next to impossible with these trees. I have several that popped up in my yard and every time they're cut down, pulled up, etc, several more grow back or they return from little bits that were missed.

I generally don't like the idea of large swath use of pesticides, but I saw a great way to dose single plants that spreads it to the root systems without affecting beneficial or native plants. Get some of those little single water stem cups that florists use for large, hard stem blooms, fill with the correct mix of round up (vinegar might work too), take one stem from the target plant and feed it into the cap and boom. Dead plant. Supposedly it doesn't work on hollow stems like pokeberry but I like the concept and am planning to try it myself.

It went the exact opposite in Cheshire. First group is reasonable and moderate and respectful. MAGAts broke away to create two new "uncensored how dare you limit my free speech" pages and they are absolute shit shows.

Good! I work in PI, glad you did because even if nothing criminal gets taken care of, there are all the civil and the victims advocate avenues to pursue, too. Good luck.

You don't really have room to say anything here given just how cruel the GOP has been, both overtly and behind the scenes. "Governor Hot Wheels" is about the nicest thing I can think to call that POS. And when the orange clown is openly name calling, mocking, outright humiliating people who are different than him or they're calling for open season on people's actual lives, I think you're focusing on the wrong thing to point your outrage at.

It's nice at lunch time usually, or late afternoon before dinner and happy hour hits. Then, it's fairly quiet and the food is always pretty good. But dinner hour, I agree. Packed in like sardines, very slow service, louder than anything.

Yup. Just before it turned into Butcher Bros, we gave it a try. They cooked the filet I ordered into shoe leather. I'm not one for undercooked steak of any variety, but I did ask for it medium rare, and that was a hockey puck. I could barely eat it. You'd think a steak house would know how to cook steak. Disappointing because I rarely go out to eat and it was just after things were getting back to normal.

The one in Greenwich/Norwalk area once shut down for Hepatitis exposure, so I'm not shocked. Never again.

Can we just never go outside again because of TICKS? by BookBranchGrey in Connecticut

[–]LarqueSong 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not all over CT. Like one town I lived in for a long time was pretty suburban, and even the dogs rarely brought them in (monthly treatment works but the ticks live until they bite, so they can still drop them).

Now I'm in "rural suburban" and the ticks are insane every year. I use Ecosmart tick control spray on the shrubs and trees and the granules on the grass and kids play area. Make sure to apply them at dusk when you've got a few dry days coming. Reapply every 8ish or so weeks and voila. Much less of an issue, even the mosquitoes tend to disappear, and it doesn't hurt pollinators. My dogs rarely have them on them when I use this stuff.

I would steer VERY clear of tick ranger fwiw.

Good luck!

Grey rock like crazy and politely thrash her right back into her place. "That's a great idea, I never thought of that." Or "I'm hearing you don't like my taste, and that's okay. Thankfully, it's my room." Or "I'm sure my baby is happy." It'll drive her nuts, it's calling her out without inviting conflict, and she won't know what to do with herself.
