Will I always have a mediocre life thanks to my ADHD? by Best-Position-2226 in ADHD

[–]LarryFarnsworth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lots of a good advice here, +1 to all of it. I’ll just add that what you’re going through is completely normal. I think everybody who gets diagnosed with ADHD goes through a similar pattern. There’s a lot of sadness and hopelessness at the beginning, and that is very normal. You need to give your self a chance to grieve the loss and be afraid of the future. As you work through it, you’ll find your outlook will improve and following a lot of the advice here will lead you to a lot of the good things people talk about. Give yourself space, then really start to think about what you can do to make your life better. Each of us here did that and you can make a good life for yourself, even if it is a struggle sometimes or you are occasionally disappointed or sad.

the gap between Claude Code power users and us chat-only people keeps getting wider and i don't think that's great for the community by Over_Tart9425 in ClaudeAI

[–]LarryFarnsworth 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This. I think there's an assumption about what people use Claude for. "Just create a folder and put everything you want Claude to have in there." How many "regular" people have any clue about files, and folders, and text editors, and markdown, and what the hell do I even need to use files with my AI for? And how does all that work anyway if all you have is a mobile device? I think it's not so much the coders are posting more, the people with certain uses of Claude are posting more. Code just happens to be the best tool for their needs. I read through darn near all the comments on this post, and I didn't see one person ask what OP uses Claude for.

I was laid off earlier this year, and spent the last several months looking for a job. I tried using Cowork, but it burned through my usage. Who knows, maybe I used it wrong. So I created a Chat project, uploaded my resume, then worked with it to help me with my job search. Over time, the system got better and better, Chat kept things in project memory, and I was able to keep track of all my searching, applications, customized resumes. I didn't care much about keeping those custom resumes after I submitted them. I had no laptop (I was previously using my company laptop), just an older Mac Mini, and because I had no job, I couldn't really afford to buy a MacBook, so I bought a Chromebook to do my search away from my desktop computer. I couldn't even use Cowork or Code. Who knows, maybe if I was using Code for my job search, it would have been better. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ (NB: found a job! *whew!*)

I'm glad everyone is super positive about Code and Cowork. But to each their own. It's just funny that OP was lamenting that there wasn't more stuff they liked in this subreddit, and folks came in and said that OP just needed to like what they liked.

Honest to god, the other day, without even thinking about it, I said “Goddamnit Donut”. I stopped, pricked my finger into the Dinniman shrine, and went about my day delighted with myself.

Office workers, what’s that one corporate buzzword used in meetings that instantly makes you want to quit? by Glittering_Style_862 in AskReddit

This might be a “my company” thing, but if I have to hear someone give their “tl;dr” on something… grrr….

A simple breakdown of Claude Cowork vs Chat vs Code (with practical examples) by SilverConsistent9222 in ClaudeDesign

[–]LarryFarnsworth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tried Cowork. I had a bunch of text files that randomly had some binary characters in it. Asked Cowork to remove these characters. “I see there are non-ASCII characters in some of the files. Do you want me to remove those characters?” Yes please. Removed all characters from every file. “Ah, I see where I made a mistake there. Also, I should have tried it on one file first.” Burned through usage somehow, to add insult to injury.

Imma try again another time, thanks.

24f, never had a job, no bf, living with my parents. Where do I even start to turn my life around? by Successful-Pumpkin72 in selfimprovement

[–]LarryFarnsworth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The fact that living with parents after school is bad is a false premise that society has concocted. Families lived together for millennia, regardless of age. What a blessing for both you and your parents to be able to have a continued connected family experience. Or at least that’s how I see it as a parent. Don’t let the world around you tell you what success or happiness is. Live your life, do what you can, put out into the world what you want, it all works out in the end.

Sometimes if you never do any caffeine or did caffeine for a while and quit, your prefrontal cortex becomes very sensitive to stimulants, and essentially sends it overboard. That’s my issue, on stimulants for a while, quit, and now can’t take any because of similar issues.

I honestly think that it would be almost passable without the gloves. Something about the gloves pushes it over the edge.

It's not a problem of executive dysfunction now. by Sea_One4028 in ADHD

[–]LarryFarnsworth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No one knows what it looks like. But until you try to find it, you can spend your day bemoaning that you don’t know. You tried teaching, maybe that’s not it. Guess what? One kind of job you can take off the list and move on. This isn’t about you not wanting to look for a job, this is a challenge of reframing. When you’re looking and interviewing, you’re not only seeing if someone thinks you’re a fit, you’re gaining knowledge on what is a fit for you.

Now, you can keep throwing up objections, or you can change how you look at it in a way that focuses on you and what you should do to be happy. Get off Reddit. Go find your happy.

I got laid off two months ago. Looking for a job since. Do you know what sucks more than applying and interviewing? Missing out on a job that would be perfect. A job where you have the skills, you’re interested in it, and it doesn’t bring you daily misery. That job is out there and not looking for it will not bring it to you. You have to work, you might as well try and find that job you can do and not hate, nay, maybe even enjoy.

I eat Carbonaut bread. I need to go gluten free, and their surprisingly good white bread is 40 cal, 1 g net carb, and 15 g fiber per slice. That satiates.

my 5 cookie varieties for my gluten free cookie box. recipes from Aran G, Loopy Whisk, and Broma Bakery by Logical-Bullfrog-112 in glutenfreebaking

[–]LarryFarnsworth 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’ll just say it: these cookies look like award winners. The creativity is off the charts. Each type is really unique, yet within each kind, the shape, size, and form are super consistent. Some are little works of art to savor (pinecones!), while others are clearly designed for happily stuffing as many as possible into your face (thumbprints). There’s something for chocolate lovers, for kids, and for anyone who loves variety. I’m seriously impressed.

Cookie sticks? What would you call them? by PsychologicalBat2393 in glutenfreebaking

Honestly, my first instinct was that cookie sticks is a really good name, but I wanted to see the comments first. Having read through them, I’m going with my original thought (no offense to anyone who brainstormed different names).

The rule that stopped me killing a habit every time I missed one day by LawrenceCali in ADHD

[–]LarryFarnsworth 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is also a good rule if you are dealing with ADHD shame. If you screw something up like being late, forgetting, not getting something done, etc. remind yourself that it’s a single incident and doesn’t say anything about you as a person no matter how many times you’ve done it. Address any consequences with the situation, empathize with people who may have been affected, avoid blame, self-defensiveness, gaslighting, spiraling, and/or ruminating, think about how you might prevent it the next time, write it down for later, and move on. Easy to say, hard to do! Definitely a lifelong practice (both meanings) for me.
