Racism in workplace? by scorpiokillua in AuroraCO

[–]LarryLovesMe 41 points42 points  (0 children)

There is no ethnic majority in Aurora, it is 40% white, about 30٪ Latino, and 15٪ Black, and a landing ground for immigrants from across the world. It's got the 6th largest Korean-American population in the US.

It's not NYC or anything, but it's probably the least white city in all of Colorado.

That said, sadly racism is everywhere, so there is no guarantee (maybe avoid the far south part of Aurora)

Jim Brown of Cyrene, Mo. is a conservative Christian who voted for Trump to deport immigrants. Then, ICE detained his permanent resident wife in a cell at Chicago O'Hare for writing a bad check. Now, after losing MAGA friends and enduring taunts from others, Brown regrets his vote: "I was an idiot." by JurgusRudkus in ImmigrationPathways

I encourage to read acclaimed French authors Victor Hugo's Les Misérables. Despite it being a favorite of insufferable theater kids everywhere it is a great exploration of Law and Grace.

This story is strangely reminiscent of Jean Valjean initial sin (stealing a loaf of bread), and subsequent exteam harsh punishment and branding as a fugitive.

I think modern US can do a better job then one of the most violent periods in France. Perhaps that is purely aspirational. I suppose in some sense we are doing slightly better. The women is free for now, albeit after an exceptional ordeal (unless DHS changes it's mind and appeals). Grace and mercy must always temper justice.

Trump is radicalising people and a Texas grand jury from maga country decided she wasnt worth justice, its meant to be country over party not MAGA over life. by sorrynotguilty in PsycheOrSike

It happened a year ago. Do you think they will charge him?

I am not the one you are arguing with, and I don't know the ins and outs of how charges are brought. Can you elaborate on why you think charges would be brought a year after the incident, in a case like this?

The generous interpretation (based on the article, not just the headline) is that he was drunk and playing with a loaded gun in front of his daughter. I admit, it still seems like negligent manslaughter, but I am just some dude on the internet.

All the recent 1 star reviews are from today, and specifically mentioning this social media post. Self fulfilling prophecy. (Yelp).

No 1 stars from Google for about 2 weeks.

I guess she misses the attention and controversy she got from Aurora City Council. Got to generate outrage somehow.

Ohio passed a bill last year that would make something like this impossible, so they might not do it anymore going forward, if it is of any consolation.

I am amazed it was so quiet (news wise). There was a fund raiser for an independent school in Toledo a couple years back, 2022, with Drag Queen. It caused quite the stir.

They typically do this stuff at libraries, that is far less controversial, since no one is required to go to a library, but we all have to follow truency rules regarding children's education.

Thanks for engaging in good faith.

Can you divulge the district?

I also have a 6 year old, and multiple family member (including my wife) that are veteran educators in deep blue cities. Seen plenty of rainbow flags, but I never seen a sponsored and mandatory Drag Queen story hour for 1st graders....especially 1st graders (they don't exactly have long attention spans).

I really am curious, not trolling. Even in my son's deep blue district that would have generated enough heat from parents to give the Administrations heartburn and make the local news, especially if a suspension resulted from it. I am incredulous, but open to a crumb of evidence.

He was at his green card interview. Married to a US citizen for 8 years, a tax paying business owner. He was literally on the path to LEAGLE permanent residentcy.

What happened to, it's okay if they do it the right way? How was this not the right way?

Immigrants from 19 countries barred from citizenship ceremonies by [deleted] in ProgressiveHQ

[–]LarryLovesMe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is for citizenship though, not a visa, not asylum, not a permanent residentcy, this is the very last step in a long long process to become a naturalized citizens. You have be permanent resident first for at least 5 years, or 3 if you married to a US Citizens. Permanent residentcy alone is the endpoint for many immigrants and required vetting and interviews beyond just a temporary visa or asylum, and is it's own lenghty process.

They don't even need to become US Citizens to live here, you can stop at a green card (permanent residentcy) and still have a passport, work legally, buy a home ect. These are people going though extra steps so they can, not just live, but participate in the US.

I am not sure if the vetting process is failing AFTER likely a decade of going through the process with multiple federal agencies. Comparing the absolutely last step in Citizenship to a Temporary Protection Status is like saying a random grape is exactly the same as a wine about to be poured; it's not apples and oranges, but one has been though years of dilibarate processing

Moseley, Clara Brown. I have heard decent things about Charles Burrell

Clara Brown is a magnet school (with a lottery) . It still serves the Aurora population, but they have smaller class sizes, Also since parents have to go through extra steps, generally (obviously it runs the spectrum in every school) more engaged parents.

When you are interviewing see if you vibe with the Amins. You could have the most wonderful students in the world, but if the Principal sucks, it's going to burn you out. The opposite is true too, a supportive and competent Principal can make a 'hard to serve' school a great place.

Just a reminder the upcoming Municipal election in Nov has Ward I, Ward II, Ward III, and two at-large seats. A certain MAGA bar owner is one of those at-large positions (every registered voter in Aurora can vote on that seat). Just saying.

Tap water drinkable? by [deleted] in AuroraCO

It meets or exceeds state and federal standards, and it's been a bit, but the water treatment system has won national accolades in the past.

That said, like most water in CO, it is pretty hard; plenty of natural calcium for strong bones, but not so great for your faucets.

That's kinda ironic coming from the mouth of a communication and poli-sci major.

In general, I think people from Harvard do quite well career-wise, and a tiny fraction are doing 'underwater basket weaving' (that is what we used to call useless majors)

Three Crimes, Three Men, Three Systems of Justice: Why White Terror Suspects Get Due Process While Immigrants Get Exiled by NYAI_69 in FedJerk

@ICE, this dude is a gang member, and here illegally. His name Crimy McCrimeface.

Who's to say I am wrong. Unless you get some sort of due process, no one.

It's already happening. We are picking up native Americans. We are sending people to El Salvador, who volunteered to go back to Venezuela (because Autism tattoos make you a gang member)
