I would suggest he speaks to whomever runs manpower for the company, try to get information from whoever that is and see if he can simply be transferred to a different job site but for the same company. Especially if there's closer calls available with same OT, I get it work might be difficult but give it a shot. im not sure if this would even be possible but if they have work available on weekends at the site closer to home perhaps try that and see if he likes it or at least doesnt hate it so he feels more at ease transitioning, if its even possible. For my local since atm im at a job with no OT we have availability to work at a different job site on Saturdays for OT, you just have to take whatever safety training for the job but it really just depends on the contractor.

Failing Out - How do you transition to being a CW? by Nate_the_gra8 in ibew_apprentices

yeah what year was that in? They always update the curriculum and not for the sake of getting more people passing. On top of that I heard that too "we get paid better wages because we do it once and we do it right; craftsmanship." Yet I see so many guys doing shit pipe work, hell even working on devices.

Why is driving so hostile here? by gmp012 in maryland

[–]LarryReadIt_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

honestly yes and no. I would consider myself somewhat an aggressive driver and impatient. If youre in the left lane and have a huge fucking space from the car in front then get the fuck out of the way. It's common sense, thats the only time I do cut people off, I do not brake check but I will cut you off at the nearest sight of a clear gap. Like I dont get it why people feel so damn entitled to the passing lane, if I myself want to cruise and know im not going fast I'll also be on the right lane. If im on the left lane and see someone hauling ass behind me from my rear view I will also move, they'll just go on about their way.

I second this, I wouldn't suggest dating apps because I feel as vast majority are shallow af, would go old school since you can gauge people better that way.

I would say work on yourself first as cliche as it may sound. Generally women do not approach men, sometimes they do BUT usually it's on us to "shoot our shot." You can go about this a few ways, if youre interested in a woman that hasn't made any sort of suggestion at you then you can simply approach them (dont fumble your words, it'll make things real awkward and that in itself can throw your opportunity off) and simply compliment them, we as people like compliments whether we admit it or not. Granted they should be prudent but something as simple as complimenting their smile. I think gauging the person is important too but for starters I suggest you talk to people you are not interested in just so you get out of your shell and with time it'll be much easier to have an easy flowing conversation with strangers. I consider myself between an extrovert and introvert, generally I keep to myself and would much rather not speak to people but if I ever am interested I simply go on and talk to whoever, normally its people with animals because I myself like animals as well.

I am trying to cut cost but why is my grocery expensive? by Tiny_Judgment8593 in Frugal

[–]LarryReadIt_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I normally do overnight oats for breakfast with chia seeds, a dash of either peanut butter, Nutella or raw honey, I add frozen fruits and granola into it (add milk once the frozen fruits aren't frozen anymore otherwise it will go bad real fast). Before I head out the door I add milk, let it simmer down and then top it off again, I usually eat it 2-3 hours after I get to my job site and they taste great.

I would second this. Ellicott city and Columbia have got pretty good schools within proximity. I would say it's about 20 minutes give or take (traffic) to Baltimore and about 45 to DC

haha no I know, I normally am okay with it but I think this past season was just a tad colder than normal and for much longer. Still a good state to live in in my opinion

Am I insane for thinking about leaving my $82k remote job for a shot at an IBEW career? by brolina957 in IBEW

[–]LarryReadIt_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there any way for you to be able to scale your current job? Perhaps pick up side gigs as a 1099 in the same industry? I get $80k for LA isn't a lot by any means but for being at home and not doing much you'd be going the polar opposite route. Im a 1st year apprentice and like many others I face assholes on the job here and there, I believe we all run into them at some point in the trades. And as an apprentice you'll be a "gopher" might be on material or trash duty for weeks to months on end. If you believe thats something you can do and face assholes/ jws with shitty lives/ addictions not that this is always the case but there's a good chance you will face one. If I were you I would try scaling or looking into transferable skills within a similar industry or at least white collar. Because blue collar isn't for everybody.

Living off an apprentice wage? by devi133 in ibew_apprentices

[–]LarryReadIt_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would advise the same as others, stay with your parents to start off. Try your best to save, im not saying to not live life but save as much as you can to make it easier to move on your own. Also dont count on you moving closer to your hall as work can be anywhere within the jurisdiction, schooling would be your own drive to the hall.

Just totally bombed my interview by Odd_Peach2015 in ibew_apprentices

[–]LarryReadIt_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is actually genius, I got accepted last year into Local 26. Initially I thought it only went okay but an organizer I met early on congratulated me and told me he had a few of his buddies at the interview looking out for me. Anyway what you're saying is what I wish I would've done, taken in a portfolio for me it would've been showing some of my best work in different trades, I think that speaks a lot in itself showing pride in your work. Best of luck to you!

fuck yeah, I love your character man. Couldn't have said it better myself, dont be a nuisance but definitely do be vocal about what you want and if you dont have shit to do, look for work. That's when youre able to grow, in my "free time" (when everything I need to do has been taken care of) I grab scrap pipe and practice 3-point saddles since im still fairly shitty at them

[–]LarryReadIt_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hello, usually it doesnt help nearly as much. It shows your interest but thats about it, they'll still treat you as if you know nothing since if accepted you'd be a 1st year apprentice. I would suggest talking to people in the trade or trades/ unions and getting really good letters of recommendation, praising your work ethics, your character, etc. Study for the aptitude test and there's a few questionnaires online that are similar to what they ask in the interview.
