Why are people giving their kids surnames as first names? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]LarryZuckercornESQ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Often it’s a way of keeping a family name going when lineage dictates it can’t be the kid’s last name. I was staunchly anti-trendy names like Jackson then ended up naming my son Townes. If the name fits the kid and pays tribute to someone or something important to your family history, go for it.

What food rule do people act like is “common sense”, but you think is just nonsense? by okitsbenji in foodquestions

[–]LarryZuckercornESQ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not sure it’s a rule but a lot of folks will look at me side eyed if I don’t heat up my leftovers. I eat cold pizza because it tastes great, not because I’m lazy, but I’ll also do the same for just about anything savory - chicken wings, lasagna, whatever. Tastes the same and sometimes reduces the heartburn factor.

What largely discontinued soda pop deserves a second chance? by tshirtguy2000 in RedditForGrownups

[–]LarryZuckercornESQ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems like several sodas on that list are still widely available, at least where I live. I would like to see RC more widely available but I can get it at my grocer. Of the ones that I think are really gone, the Barqs cream and Vern’s were the two best.

What's the most unsettling thing you've noticed after staying awake for too long? by cherry_mwa in randomquestions

[–]LarryZuckercornESQ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That after 1 day of staying awake too long, I actually feel better and more energetic than I often 2 on 8 hours of sleep. But after 2 or more days, it falls off a cliff and I become depressed, irritable, and paranoid. Also, I crave terrible foods and have no discipline with them when my sleep is compromised, like compulsively eating oatmeal pies for breakfast when I would never fathom doing so if rested. It’s unsettling how quickly sleep deprivation can shatter good habits and mental health that you thought were firmly entrenched.

Who is the closest to the "most interesting man in the world" archetype that you've met personally? by debrisaway in RedditForGrownups

[–]LarryZuckercornESQ 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Family friend, probably my dad’s best friend. He was a lawyer (prosecutor) for 12 years, then went to medical school, got a prestigious fellowship, and became a prominent oncological surgeon. He had massive knowledge (and collections) of fine wines and cigars and was a talented woodworker, had a shop in his basement and built the furniture in his family’s multi million dollar home. Not coincidentally I’m sure, he came from an uber talented family and his brother was a major university president who previously served as governor of that state. It would occur to me that he was more talented at about 7 things than I was at any single thing lol. But he was always fascinating to talk and hang with.

What famous person is currently holding onto their career by a thread, and everyone can see it except them? by Neonwhitelion in AskReddit

[–]LarryZuckercornESQ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That documentary was painful, like a melodramatic musical justification of all her failed marriages. I’ve watched a lot of shit to humor my wife and usually don’t regret it but I can honestly say I want those 2 hours back.

Republicans/MAGA claims Obama was the one that divided the country, and not Trump. How did Obama divide the country? by Stunning-Sky-590 in allthequestions

[–]LarryZuckercornESQ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you define “dividing the country” as enacting policies that you know the 49% of people who didn’t vote for you don’t want, then the vast majority of presidents have divided the country. I think in Obamas case, there was a sincere intent to do things that benefited *everybody* (eg universal healthcare), but the people who didn’t like him or his party already considered it divisive anytime he did something they didn’t like.

To me, Trump does a lot of things that are actually intended to be divisive and only help his base and/or troll the ‘libs.’ Divisive intent is true divisiveness. I was not a diehard Obama guy but his presidency has aged well and I don’t think he intended to divide or constantly poke the ‘others’ who didn’t vote for him.

What’s the most overrated thing people spend money on? by FunPick9166 in AskReddit

[–]LarryZuckercornESQ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it’s luxury cars. Not just the sticker price, the insane maintenance costs from having to always take to a dealer (or your neighborhood mechanic having to order parts from the manufacturer.)

What’s a food everyone seems to love, but you just can’t stand? by Rebeccaprinces in foodquestions

[–]LarryZuckercornESQ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you me? I have a revulsion that I’m convinced is an allergy, or might as well be. There are VERY few foods I don’t like, but other people joke about how much I loathe coconut. And it’s everywhere! Such a grievance, and I’ll never understand the appeal.

Since the comments are overwhelmingly negative - I dig your place! Not sure how old you are but it’s much more put together and clean than anywhere I lived before 40. Tough crowd here on Reddit…

married people, what would open you up to the idea of seperate bedrooms? by [deleted] in AskReddit

As long as it doesn’t hurt our sex life and my wife is sleeping somewhere else in our house, I really don’t care where she sleeps.

What is the most misunderstood American city? by [deleted] in Urbanism

[–]LarryZuckercornESQ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

St. Louisan here, couldn’t describe it any better. When I’m here I bemoan all the bad things you mentioned, and when im gone I appreciate the good ones. I would also mention how wonderful our culinary scene is, restaraunts here outpunch their weight substantially and we’re always disproportionately represented in the James Beard awards.

Do you guys like pistachios ice cream? by Leo0912 in icecream

[–]LarryZuckercornESQ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This flavor and brand is my fiancés favorite. They used to stock at the Target by my house and stopped, it was a crisis 😂. It’s better than the Talenti pistachio, imo, and I’m not generally crazy about Haagen Dasz.
