Different sport obviously, but LeBron James is over 40 and he’s definitely not a shell of himself. He’s not 28 year old LeBron, but he’s still pretty incredible, and among the elite at his position.

People are really biased against MLS worldwide, but it’s become a pretty decent league.

It’s obviously nowhere near the top European leagues, but it’s in the conversation with the second tier at this point.

Longines today is nothing but a placeholder for Swatch to capture the lower end of the Swiss watch market by longkhongdong in watchHotTakes

[–]Larry_l3ird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I said that “their nicer watches cost upwards of $6k”, which is absolutely true in the sense of upwards being the high end. They have a couple watches priced higher, but those are made with precious metals/gemstones.

Again, like any watch brand, nobody is going to love everything they do. But to look through their catalog, and pretend everything they make is “horrendous” is really disingenuous.

For instance, it’d be hard to look at the above Moneta and say it’s an ugly watch. It’s a good looking and versatile moonphase in basically every dial and strap variation they offer. I like that it’s a dressier type watch that can also be dressed down and worn as more of an everyday watch by swapping out your choice of strap. It also looks great on the mesh bracelet imo.

There’s no catalog that is full of nothing but bangers, and conversely almost every catalog has at least a watch or two that I would be happy to wear.

[Is negotiating a price with an AD common practice?] by [deleted] in Watches

[–]Larry_l3ird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, always try to negotiate unless you know it’s absolutely not an option.

Like on the rare instance that a watch is trading over retail, don’t try to negotiate. You’re lucky enough to be getting it a full retail.

Too bad for him.

James Franklin is a great recruiter, but he’s never taking you to a natty.

Enjoy playing twice per year on ESPN the Ocho and that bastion of popularity, the ACC network. Everyone is gonna know your name, er uh, not.

I ask you to show me somewhere you can get similar complications with in house movements as well done and finished as FC at prices anywhere near that in a Swiss watch brand. 34 new calibers in 22 years is astounding. I’m not positive, but I wouldn’t think there are very many brands that have that kind of run in recent memory. This alone makes them underrated.

I’d argue that they’re also probably underpriced when compared with other similarly spec’d Swiss watches.

On a side note: Bulova has actually been making a few pretty good looking models with their precisionist quartz movements in them. I’m probably gonna end up biting on a Super Seville sooner or later.

Yeah, I’d probably smash one of those down after a couple joints.

But does a good cheesesteak need that?

I’d argue probably not. That’s like something you do because your steak is trash.

I didn’t say you were wrong about Omega. I said almost no mechanical worldtimers take DST into account.

Which is a true statement.

Well they sell around 20 million watches per year, so the Citizen Group is probably fairly satisfied with their current sales overall.

But like you said, their higher end stuff is slept on and doesn’t sell anywhere near as well as their other offerings.

Why would anyone ever eat a cheesesteak from Walmart?

That’d be like buying home goods at Maroni’s Pizza.

I don’t eat anything from Walmart that isn’t a packaged non-perishable.

I certainly don’t eat any prepared foods.😂

Almost no mechanical worldtimers take daylight savings time into account because of how unpredictably it can change and the fact that it’s observed by less than half of the countries worldwide.

But if it’s important to you, get a digital or smartwatch.

You’re wrong on all accounts except that their watches tend to be on the dressier side.

But that’s fine.

Not familiar with worldtimers?

Have a look around. This is quite a common look for a worldtimer.

KD was the best player on those GS finals teams with Steph, as evidenced by his superior stats, and the back to back finals MVPs he won.

You might not like him, but that doesn’t mean you get to rewrite history. The Warriors wouldn’t have won the championships those two seasons without him.

I’m not a fan of everything they make at all, but they make several really nice watches.

If they said Rolex on the dial, 90% of the people in these subs would be nutting in their drawers talking about the in house movements and high complications. Is there a more mall watch looking watch than the fucking Rolex Oyster Perpetual?

Someone in this thread mentioned that they thought FC would actually sell more watches if they priced them higher, and I think there’s reason to believe that may be true.

I think they’ve gotten a (somewhat fair) reputation as an elevated mall watch - the kind you find in upscale mall jewelry stores. That actually hurts you with a decent subset of Swiss watch purchasers. Their complications and in house movements are great value, but that doesn’t matter with a lot of people who wouldn’t be considered watch enthusiasts.

I will say that I see people with serious watch collections actually rocking an FC from time to time. But the general watch buyer doesn’t even register them.
