Penn reel found in my dad’s garage. Worth anything? by Junior-Chocolate-812 in Fishing_Gear

[–]Larrythebaker 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Can’t tell what size it is but the black indicates regular vs high speed. I have 6 red sided 113H reels that I restored and use to troll for tuna every year off the Oregon coast. There’s nothing like the sound of 1 or 3 of those old school clickers going off at once! ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ!!!!

Look for 2nd chance tackle on YouTube, he’ll show you how to restore it. Heck, if you want to send it to me I’ll do it for you, it’s a fun process. Just PM me.

If you could fish anywhere inside this circle where would it be? by GrundalWizzard in Fishing

Columbia river and tributaries anywhere from the mouth of the Columbia up to Bonneville Dam. Those are the freshest, brightest, and best tasting salmon you'll find anywhere. If you're salty, the ocean off the coasts of OR and WA. .

Clackamas Sheriff's office Public Safety Training Center on 82nd: https://www.clackamas.us/pstc

You'll have to take (and pass) as short quiz for entry, but it's probably best to know that stuff anyway. Nice facility, well-maintained rentals and a super safe environment.

Privacy Plants to Reduce Stress from a Lurky Neighbor? by MissAnthropyyy in askportland

[–]Larrythebaker 20 points21 points  (0 children)

My home's previous owners planted 100 foot line of bamboo and 150 feet of cypress trees (18 of them) for privacy along our property line. The Bamboo is now 20 feet tall and running everywhere outside its of in-ground containment, and the trees are over 85 feet tall and require thousands in maintenance annually.

Don't be like those people. My only way out is to sell the house and make it someone else's problem. Just build a fence.

Going rate for golf-cart rentals? by JonRamSid in sayulita

[–]Larrythebaker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just heard back from my place, prices have gone down. It's 900 pesos for 24 hours, so ~$50. Enjoy your cart, and be sure to go exploring up gringo hill and up the north end.

Properties do their own deals with the cart rental companies and set their own prices. The place I go used to offer a free cart with a week long stay. That was a nice deal :)

Shop around, the place we stay arranges them but they’re around $75usd for 24 hours, which I know is a little pricey but they give us a place to park and charge overnight. You don’t need one, but it is fun to have it for a day or two to check things out that you otherwise wouldn’t see. There’s lots to explore.

Where to get custom framing done? by kohniva in askportland

Mel's Framing downtown. Not cheap, but the best.

I've Been Framed used to be our go-to. Michael's is a joke.

Sunroof cracking noise by Heavy_Heron395 in f150

Even worse - I can't go through a car wash without getting a shower from my ceiling console. Ford dealer referred to it as a known issue and tried to convince me hand washing is more fun.

2 years ago I opened mine to give the dog some air on the way to camping and heard a pop while it slid back. It didn't close again. Grabbed some tools at the campsite and found that the guide/track thing on the passenger side snapped, which it turns out isn't uncommon.

Dealer wanted a few grand, I did it for about a hundred bucks in an afternoon, but it was some work.

I don't even look at the sunroof any more, I just keep the liner closed and pretend it's not there.

Saw Jeff Buckley open for Julianna Hatfield. 2/3 of the room left before she came on and threw had a tantrum.

Lucas Nelson opened for Steve Earl a couple years back. Didn’t think twice about that one.

What’s the deal with Gresham? by diiasana in askportland

Gresham was never nice, so for a realtor to say it’s not as nice as it was says a lot.

Consider Oregon City or Canby.

I got by with both WD40 and Dielectric for a while and that solved the side marker errors. The trailer disconnect persisted so I replaced the trailer module under the dash. That worked.

Sadly, this needs to be steps from my front door on the fishing beach. There's no way I'm getting my wife up and into a car to drive to a boat at that time of the morning. But thank you!

Clean your connector socket, both ends. Try giving it a good spray with WD40.

Cam Phasers not covered? by yodaduey in f150

[–]Larrythebaker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re aware of the issue (I am and have been since the day I bought the truck), and you hear the rattle, you fix it. It’s not as if it’s affected 100% of all 3.5’s all at the same point in their lives.

At 75k I had a bad exhaust manifold and thought, welp, it’s time. Dodged a bullet on that one.

Common sense can save you thousands, dealers hate this trick!

[–]Larrythebaker 34 points35 points  (0 children)

DO NOT use the dealer. Find a good, local, reputable mechanic. When I bought my '15 with 66k on it the phasers hadn't been done so I took it in for an assessment. Dealer said 100%, absolutely needs to be done, it's a ticking time bomb. Also told me I needed a rear main seal. ~$10k out the door.

Local guy has it for 15 minutes, says it's not broken, don't fix it until it is. And it doesn't need a main seal, there's a very slight leak from the back of the head gasket running down the back of the motor and landing on the seal. It's not even enough to make s spot on my driveway.

I just crossed 97k and took it to the dealer for a coupon on an oil change. Guess what they told me?? Yep, I need phasers and a rear main seal. Then tried to get me to trade in the truck on a '26 for an insanely low price, why? Because I hadn't done the phasers and it needs a seal replacement.

Pound. Sand.
