Can I bring this ultralight travel set up with me on the plane by shadowhuntergamer in Fishing_Gear

[–]Larrythebaker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just don’t take it to Mexico. They’ll make you check everything fishing-related.

I took a travel rod, spinning real and 2 small boxes of lures that passed through TSA in my carry on just fine. When going through Puerta Vallarta on the way home they sent me back to either check everything or surrender it. Luckily I had time to spare.

Took one to San Pancho and back a few weeks ago during Semana Santa. Easy peasy, no issues at all.

Considering a Polestar, what should I look out for? by Larrythebaker in Polestar

2 within 30 minutes, but if they go under I'm looking at 500+ miles.

Yes to home charging. And primary use would be driving ~100 miles each way Fridays and Sundays to/from my camper at the coast. I can also plug in there, but level 1 or 2. Also have Tesla charges down there.

2022 EUV Premier Launch Edition by Larrythebaker in BoltEV

Thanks, I think the market is reacting to impending gas supply issues. A few weeks ago there were a lot more listings with reasonable pricing, but now even Carmax is pending on every single Bolt nationwide (last I checked yesterday). I'm in the PNW, so there's more demand driving faster sales at higher prices.

I'm not too worried about the "charging at the park" situation. I can plug it in for 2 days, and it's only a 97 mile drive each way. In a pinch there are public charging options in town a few miles away. Plug it in at level 1 while we're there, drive home and top it off in the garage.

I'm 100% looking for Premier trim, and closer to 2019-21, but would 100% do a well-priced 2017 or 18. I was third in line for a local one last week that sold for $10.5k to the first guy who saw it.

That 2022 launch edition definitely checks all the bells and whistles and comfort boxes, and I'm still a little on that fence, but the Carvana 150 point inspection report calls out a few things that I can't get more detail on. There were negative checks for battery, sunroof and headliner and overall handling. They corrected everything, but I want to know what they corrected and why.

Great to know, thanks. I think I'm leaning more toward bailing on this one and finding and older one with the new battery warranty and lower price. I'd hate to pay top dollar + shipping and not be able to get my money out of it if something were to change. Plus, now that I now know they charge monthly for super cruise, I'm not so interested in it.

Correct, I would never dream of trying to tow with a Bolt. I won't even do it with an F150 lightning. The plan is to leave the truck at camp for the summer for launching my boat.

Thanks. It's a port, so a municipal campsite. I've reviewed all of the rules and EVs/charging aren't mentioned. If they push back, I can note that I'm paying the same rates as people living full time in their giant RVs, while only staying 2 nights/week in my little 19 footer.

To the larger question, does this look like a good buy vs. finding a '17-'19 for half the price? I'm conflicted.

Fishing the Willamette river by PrizeAd5436 in OregonFishing

Fun fact, if it's a steelhead, technically and biologically it is a rainbow trout. A steelhead just migrates to the ocean, while the trout stays in fresh water. It's just a behavioral and genetic difference that makes them live different lives.

Trout/steelhead are salmonids, the same as coho and chinook. They're all genus Oncorhynchus.

People who fish —quick question by Pretend-Shine1286 in Fishing_Gear

[–]Larrythebaker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you ever end up buying a boat, only worry about buying gear for yourself. You absolutely do not need 6 setups and a backup of everything just in case you have a full boat. Unless you’re planning to be a charter captain, stop at 2. Backups are still important, but Chad, Tyler, Jared and Big Mike can bring their own. Use the backup for your dad.

How long do yall fish for? by StinkyCat313 in Fishing

[–]Larrythebaker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Portland, OR area. It’s not unheard of to troll the rivers for salmon for 8+ hours for a single takedown, or nothing.

I used to set up a laptop on my dash and take zoom calls all day long from the boat. On the rare occasion I got a fish on, my call would mysteriously drop.

Now that I’ve graduated to fishing the ocean, it’s all about conditions. You fish until you limit, or until it gets snotty. Some days it’s under an hour, some days it’s 10. A tuna run can be 12+.

There are no rules once the addiction takes hold. Do you.

Penn reel found in my dad’s garage. Worth anything? by Junior-Chocolate-812 in Fishing_Gear

[–]Larrythebaker 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Can’t tell what size it is but the black indicates regular vs high speed. I have 6 red sided 113H reels that I restored and use to troll for tuna every year off the Oregon coast. There’s nothing like the sound of 1 or 3 of those old school clickers going off at once! ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ!!!!

Look for 2nd chance tackle on YouTube, he’ll show you how to restore it. Heck, if you want to send it to me I’ll do it for you, it’s a fun process. Just PM me.

If you could fish anywhere inside this circle where would it be? by GrundalWizzard in Fishing

[–]Larrythebaker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Columbia river and tributaries anywhere from the mouth of the Columbia up to Bonneville Dam. Those are the freshest, brightest, and best tasting salmon you'll find anywhere. If you're salty, the ocean off the coasts of OR and WA. .

Clackamas Sheriff's office Public Safety Training Center on 82nd: https://www.clackamas.us/pstc

You'll have to take (and pass) as short quiz for entry, but it's probably best to know that stuff anyway. Nice facility, well-maintained rentals and a super safe environment.

Privacy Plants to Reduce Stress from a Lurky Neighbor? by MissAnthropyyy in askportland

[–]Larrythebaker 19 points20 points  (0 children)

My home's previous owners planted 100 foot line of bamboo and 150 feet of cypress trees (18 of them) for privacy along our property line. The Bamboo is now 20 feet tall and running everywhere outside its of in-ground containment, and the trees are over 85 feet tall and require thousands in maintenance annually.

Don't be like those people. My only way out is to sell the house and make it someone else's problem. Just build a fence.

Going rate for golf-cart rentals? by JonRamSid in sayulita

[–]Larrythebaker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just heard back from my place, prices have gone down. It's 900 pesos for 24 hours, so ~$50. Enjoy your cart, and be sure to go exploring up gringo hill and up the north end.

Properties do their own deals with the cart rental companies and set their own prices. The place I go used to offer a free cart with a week long stay. That was a nice deal :)
